Women Taking Care Of Themselves, With Homeopathy

This post is about women, about women of all ages taking care of themselves. So often, women, and especially moms, don’t really take care of themselves. As I used to say when my sons were younger, I wasn’t even on the list.

Women are so busy taking care of their family members, friends and coworkers, and not always themselves. I have previously written a blog post about caregivers, and another blog post about moms being my ideal patient , which you may want to read. The post on moms, talks about how they are the hub, the center of the family, making sure everyone is taken care of. Now it is time for moms, for all women, young, old, middle-aged to take care of themselves.

Some Of The Women I Have Seen

In my practice, I have seen women of all ages and for various health concerns. There usually is some specific reason that has brought the woman in to see me – a physical complaint, an emotional issue, an ongoing health concern. In addition to this specific reason, there is her, the woman, and how she responds and feels on all levels (physically, emotionally, mentally, and spiritually) to what has happened in her life. Homeopathy addresses the whole of her. Through listening, observing, and understanding what is at the core of what is bothering her, a homeopathic remedy is given that is similar to what she is experiencing, to the totality of her. The homeopathic remedy stimulates her own healing process, strengthening her vital force or immune system, healing the specific reason why she came in, and also healing the totality of her.

Here is a little bit about some of the woman who have come in to see me for homeopathic care. Please know there is more to each of these women than what I have written here.

– a 19-year-old, who has very heavy periods, with severe cramping.                                                                                          grandma-612016_640

–  a woman going through menopause, who has hot flashes at night, making it difficult for her to sleep and then not feeling rested the next day at work. Having very emotional responses to experiences and situations in her life. Crying more.

– a woman in her 60’s who has had migraines for most of her life. Still having them after going through menopause.

– a woman figuring out what to do with her life. Has depressive types of thoughts. Taking care of her family. Asking herself, what can I do?

young girl–  a woman who is very involved in the workings of her family’s business. Experiences severe arthritic type pains in her hands, that she describes as a squeezing sensation. Has these pains more often when she is cleaning, using water. Very concerned on how the house is kept.

–  a woman who experiences discomfort when having sexual relations with her husband. She is not really happy in the relationship.

–  a woman who always has had someone helping her. Now she is a widow, and learning how to take care of herself, along with going through grieving for her husband.

– a young girl who has trouble sleeping, experiencing nightmares that keep her awake. During the day she is very irritable.

Some Of The Health Concerns Women Experience

Below is what may have brought the woman in for homeopathic care. Nothing is in isolation, as my teachers have said. Symptoms are not treated separately. It is the totality of the woman who is addressed, and the totality heals.

  • menstrual issues – cramps, PMS, bloating, headaches, late periods, heavy flow, clots, perimenopause, menopause, hot flashes, insomnia, other symptoms related that may come up or are exasperated during the menstrual cycle
  • digestive issues – bloating, constipation, diarrhea, food allergies and sensitivities, irritable bowel syndrome, Crohn’s disease
  • sleep issues – insomnia, frequent waking, difficulty falling asleep, nightmares
  • pain – muscular, arthritic, nerve, acute or chronic, from an old injury
  • headaches – migraines, allergies, seasonal
  • anxiety, depression, ongoing grief, fears, phobias, focusing issues, memory issues
  • skin eruptions – eczema, psoriasis, acne, rosacea, warts
  • respiratory – asthma, shortness of breath
  • emotional states – sadness, anger, outbursts
  • autoimmune illnesses – chronic fatigue, fibromyalgia, polymyalgia
  • what is bothering you?

An observation: it may be that we women always have a cycle. Whether we are actually menstruating, or not menstruating. Whether we are pregnant, or have gone through menopause. This “cycle” time may be when a symptom, a feeling, a thought, a state of being, a health concern, or what bothers us, is more prevalent or more intense than usual.

Suffering With An Ongoing Health Concern – Homeopathy Heals

suffer 3I talk to people about homeopathy all the time. Often, they tell me about an ongoing health concern that they, or a loved one, are experiencing, and experiencing for quite a long time, sometimes over 20 years. They tell me that they are using western medications, which alleviates some of their symptoms, their pain, and their discomfort, but just for a short time. And some tell me that they don’t like how they feel when they take these medications. The medications are often quite strong and have side effects. They tell me that they have tried other healing modalities, such as acupuncture, chiropractic care, supplements, watching their diet, herbal medicine, and massage. These modalities help, and they don’t help. The person is still not doing well. They tell me that they have frequent flare ups of their health concern, whether it is daily, weekly, monthly, yearly or seasonally. From all that they tell me, I see that they have learned to live with their health concern, and often have to plan their lives around it. It seems to me that these people are suffering, greatly.

Does this sound familiar?

Some Health Concerns

  • Menstrual difficulties – painful, frequent, heavy, peri-menopause, menopause, irregular, poly cystic ovaries
  • Digestive Issues – bloating, constipation, diarrhea, Crohn’s Disease, irritable bowel syndrome
  • Headaches and migraines – allergy headaches, tension headaches
  • Anxiousness
  • Allergies – seasonal, food, environmental
  • Depression – ongoing, postpartum, seasonal
  • Skin eruptions – eczema, psoriasis, rosacea, acne
  • Chronic earaches , sore throats, coughs
  • Breathing difficulties – asthma
  • Behavioral issues – defiant, tantrums
  • Fears, PST, nightmares
  • Sleep difficulties – insomnia, difficulty falling asleep, difficulty staying asleep
  • Arthritis
  • Autoimmune diseases
  • Fibromyalgia , polymyalgia
  • Urinary tract infections
  • Prolonged grief
  • Unexplained (have done series of tests that are all negative) pain and discomfort in an area of a body – such as in the shoulder
  • Health concerns after an injury

Suffering

So many people are suffering. sufferingThey are working, raising families, helping their older parents, going to school, interacting with other people and more. They are functioning. They are living their lives, and getting by, or not getting by. Suffering through it all. I always wonder how can they continue to be in this situation.

This is when I want to say – HOMEOPATHY. GO SEE A HOMEOPATH! MAKE A MOVE TOWARD HELPING YOURSELF FEEL BETTER!

Homeopathy

Homeopathy heals at the root of where someone is not feeling well. The healing is of the whole person, in addition to what brought the person in, which is often a health concern that has been bothering them for years. For example, one patient who has had depression for many years, has experienced her depressive state to be less, as well as she is sleeping better, handling the ups and downs of her life better, feeling less anxiety, and is less anxious about her life. Her suffering is less, and she is enjoying life more, and being who she is.

What is your suffering like? Is it time to do something about it?

I would be happy to talk with you on how homeopathy can be of help to whatever is your ongoing suffering, or a loved one’s suffering. Please contact me either through this blog or through my website  www.homeopathytoheal.

Homeopathy Helpful for Children who Have Stomachaches (corrected post)

I read this article “Understanding the link between stress and stomach aches in children”. The article talks about how children experience stomachaches in connection to stress, whether it is a new school situation, difficult school environment or change in family life. The article suggests using hypnosis, mindfulness and counseling. I agree with these suggestions. I want to add homeopathy as a way to help with stomachaches.

(Yes, this is a duplicate post. I mistakenly published the wrong one.)

Although I am writing about children, this information applies to adults as well. Adults experience stomachaches from stress too.

The article was in Tuesday, August 27, 2013 edition of the U-T San Diego. It was written by Dr. Rebecca Cherry, associate director of the Motility Center at Rady Children’s Hospital in San Diego, and was originally included in the Growing Up column published by Rady Children’s Hospital. The U-T San Diego was republishing it. Here is the link: http://www.rchsd.org/aboutus/newsroom/growingupcolumns/D022897#.UiExkz8muTq

child with a stomacheache

Homeopathy is healing the person, the whole person. We all have our own sensitivities, and our sensitive areas flare up when we are under stress. Since we are all unique individuals, no two stomachaches are alike. Yes, there are the common symptom of pain, but the root cause or state that the child experiences when having a stomachache is unique to him/her. The healing with homeopathy addresses this root cause, quieting it down. In a way, the stomachache is a sign that something is not right. It is good to listen to signs.

In addition to stomachaches, the child may have diarrhea, bloating, gas, burping, nausea, vomiting, cramping, loss of appetite, overeating, binging, craving center foods, gastric reflux, acid reflux, colic, indigestion, smelly stools and more. There may also be other physical symptoms, as well as emotional and mental ones. Remember, it is the whole person.

Very often, if the non nourishing, stressful environment is changed, the child will be better. Homeopathy calls these non nourishing environments maintaining causes. But if the child is still experiencing stomachaches after there has been a change in the environment, go see a professional homeopath. Actually, you may want to go see a homeopath anyway.

Colic – Homeopathy Can Ease the Discomfort

Since I had written a blog about the safety of using homeopathy while breastfeeding, I wanted to follow with a post about babies experiencing colic.  They are very uncomfortable – in pain, having difficulty sleeping, having difficulty eating, spitting up.  All this affects the household.

                       crying baby

The mother is very busy taking care of the baby, and may often forget to take care of herself. I know how easy it is for a mother to put herself  aside, and not take the time to care for herself. Actually, what mother does have the time. The baby is very sensitive to how the mother responds to him or her. (This may be the start of another post.)

If the mother is breastfeeding, there is a direct connection between the mother and her baby through her breast milk. The emotional state of the mother, the foods she eats, how much sleep she gets, how much fluids she drinks, what kinds of fluids she drinks –  all these can affect her baby.  Specifically, the mother may notice after she eats certain foods that her baby is very uncomfortable with pain and with gas. The mother may then decide to refrain from eating those foods while she continues to breastfeed. This may give the baby some relief. Some of these foods are: spicy foods, broccoli, cabbage, legumes, and dairy products.

                                             breastfeeding

A baby who is not breastfeeding may experience colic as well.  A change in the formula may be needed. Also, it could be a response to what the mother is feeling within herself. Again, going back to the mother taking some time to care for herself.

bottle fed baby

Homeopathy can help babies that are breastfed and bottle fed.

Below are listed several homeopathic remedies or medicines that can be helpful for a baby that is experiencing colic. Observe what and how the baby is feeling: the emotional state, the discomfort, and physical symptoms of the baby. Then “match” the observation to the description below. Homeopathy is based on the principle LIKE CURES LIKE or THE LAW OF SIMILARS. The homeopathic remedy that is most similar to the baby will be the most helpful and promote a healing.

If these remedies do not help, and the baby is very uncomfortable, it would be good to see a professional homeopath. There are over 3000 remedies. The aim is to give the person, the baby in this case, the homeopathic remedy that is most similar to what he/she is experiencing.  Or it may be that it is the mother that needs to be treated by a homeopath, which would benefit both the mother and the baby.
