Health – Being Who You Are

This is a post I wrote over 5 years ago. I have changed a few things in it. I wanted to share it again with you.

I want to wish you all a wonderful Happy Thanksgiving. I am very thankful for all of you who are interested and want to know more about homeopathy.

One day, when I was sitting in my consultation room, I heard a sound outside the patio door. I looked outside, and there in the mulberry tree was a little bird. It was a bird I had never seen before. It was maybe 7 inches long. It’s back had a black and white pattern. It’s head was bright red. It was pecking at the tree. It walked from one place to another, pecking. I watched the bird for awhile. I had had the tree cut back recently, which I do every year, so the tree was very bare and open. That is why I could see the bird so clearly.

ladder back woodpeckerI immediately looked on the internet to see what kind of bird it was. It was a Ladder Back Woodpecker, which is native to the southwest. The black and white pattern reflected a ladder, in a way. The next day, the bird or its friend, came back, pecking on my tree.

I was thinking as I was watching this bird, that it was doing what it knows how to do. It was being itself – looking for food, and perhaps it found some food, and then moving on to find more. It was being who it is.

What We Want

That is really what we all want –  we want to be who we truly are – to love, to be loved, to do work that we enjoy, to enjoy our lives, to enjoy our relationships with friends and family. And to be healthy so we can do and be these things. To be who we are.

A health issue may make it difficult for a person to take part in their life. These are some of what may bother people to the extent that it affects their life. They can’t truly be who they are.

  • Feeling tired all the time.
  • Needing to know where the bathrooms are located when she goes out, because she has chronic diarrhea.
  • Needing to watch very strictly what he eats.
  • Not having an appetite and feeling nausea all the time.
  • Continuing to experience pain and discomfort in his hands since an accident.
  • Ongoing flare ups of breathing difficulties.
  • Feeling anxious and fearful for herself and her loved ones.
  • Constantly scratching his arms.
  • Skin eruptions.
  • Being very sensitive to sounds.
  • Experiencing headaches.
  • Feeling fearful.
  • Lingering effects from a trauma or illness – a fall; an emotional upset or loss; surgery; the flu or coronavirus (long haul): a vaccine reaction.

Healing – Being Who You Are – Being You

With homeopathic care, the whole person is healing. The health issue that brought the person in for homeopathic care is better, AND, the person is feeling better in themselves.

One woman came to homeopathy because she was experiencing flutterings of her heart. These became less, and she was feeling more energetic. She was able to do more activities during the day and had more energy to do these activities. She said she was feeling like herself again. I could see this in her face.

It is not that the person is changed when having homeopathic care; it is that they can be more of who they are. They are no longer feeling bogged down and hindered with a physical, emotional, mental or spiritual health issue, which has been limiting how they live their life and how they interact in the world. As they are healing, they become more of themselves, just as the bird was pecking on my tree, being who he was, the person is being who they are.

Are You Experiencing Lingering Effects From A Trauma?

I have written  about traumas before, and have talked about the use of the homeopathic remedy Arnica Montana in many of my posts when there has been a trauma.

Recently, when I was with a friend, we were talking about traumas, physical and emotional ones. And that often there can be lingering effects from the trauma, such as a person having chronic pain, flare up of certain symptoms, feeling emotionally  distressed, regressing in behaviors and development, and more.

Traumas

A trauma can be physical and emotional. Some physical traumas can be from surgeries, giving birth, falls, vaccine reactions, accidents, and experiencing a down and outnatural disaster. Some emotional traumas could be the loss of a loved one through death, an illness, or a divorce; the experience of war; the experience of abuse, emotionally and physically; the experience of loss of a job or home; being in a natural disaster; and exposure to toxins in the air, water, soil, or environment.

(I have natural disasters in both categories. We are seeing more of them occurring.)

The person may have sought out help at the time of the trauma or soon afterwards,  and may have also used homeopathy.  The trauma may have been looked at as a first aid situation, looking at taking care of what has happening at that present time. And the help that the person received was beneficial to them. Yet, for some people there may be a lingering from the trauma, showing up in physical symptoms, emotional states of anxiety, fear, sadness or depression, or a feeling of just not being well.  The person may even say, I have not been well since “this” happened.

When I meet with a patient, I often ask what was going on when this (the symptoms or state of not being well) started.  In a way, I am looking for a cause. A cause in the sense that this may be the initiator, the start, to why they are not feeling well.

In My Practice

These are some of the traumas, and lingering states I have seen in my practice:

  • a woman who had two c-sections. A lot of scar tissue developed, and she experienced a lot of pain and discomfort during her menstrual cycle.
  • a concussion from a car accident. The woman experienced vertigo and difficulty focusing and the use of computers was very difficult for her.
  • a woman who was exposed to toxins after being in an area where there had been fires.
  • a boy who had reactions to vaccines.
  • a woman who lost her her husband, and was deeply grieving.
  • a man who hasn’t been well since having the flu.

Healing

In a lot of circumstances, healing takes time. We don’t always want to hear that it takes time. We want to feel better right now.  We don’t like to not feel well.

When we experience a trauma, it may affect us on many levels, and it may also bring up states and feelings we had experienced in the past. We may use different healing modalities to help us, such as homeopathy, message, acupuncture, Chinese medicine, energy body work, therapy, chiropractic, western medicine and more. The healing is a process, and in some ways it can be a deep learning experience about ourselves.
