Homeopathy Is Part of Someone’s Ongoing Health Care

Several weeks ago, I received an email from a patient that I had seen 12 years ago. Actually, the email was from the mother of a patient I seen when he was 5 years old.

What was bothering the son 12 years ago, was bothering him now. Granted, his circumstances were different. He was now in college and living in a different state. His clay spiralmother wanted to know what the homeopathic remedy was that he had used years ago, and possibly if he could use it again.

I keep the files of  my patients that I have seen over the years. As I was reading his file, I remembered the case. I don’t think I could describe the boy physically or how he looked, but I remembered the case, and what led me to selecting the homeopathic remedy that was given.

I emailed the mother back, telling her the homeopathic remedy, and what the cost would be for the remedy and for it to be sent to her son. I also said that there is a possibility that her son’s state has changed, and a different  homeopathic remedy would be needed now. And that it would be best to come in for an appointment. The mother agreed, and so did her son. We thought of doing a Skype appointment since he was out of state. But with his schedule being so busy, it was decided that he would see me in December during his winter break, and see me in person.

In the meantime, I sent him the homeopathic remedy that he took in the past, with the understanding that it may work or not work this time. I suggested that he be in touch with me 10 days after taking the remedy to let me know how he was doing.

It was very gratifying to hear from this mother, and knowing that homeopathy had helped her son so many years ago. And now, they were looking to homeopathy for the  present situation, and reaching out for help. I often see in my practice how homeopathy has become a part of my patients’ ongoing health care. When they need help they contact me. This mother’s email was an example and a reminder of homeopathy being part of one’s ongoing health care. It felt good.

Hay Fever

Several weeks ago, I wrote a post about allergies. I thought this week I would write a little bit about hay fever, an allergy which is often experienced seasonally.

Four Homeopathic Remedies Useful For Hay Fever

Here are four homeopathic remedies that can be helpful for hay fever. By reading the descriptions, you can see how different hay fever can be experienced, even though it is usually lumped into one category, and treated that way.

Each person experiences hay fever uniquely to them. Some napkin-box-312693_960_720people may experience itching. Some may have more symptoms with their eyes than with their nose. Some may be sneezing. Some may feel very irritable. Some may be better outside. Some may experience a headache. These are just a few of the differences of how someone would experienced hay fever. This difference, or individuality, is so with any other health concern; each person experiences what bothers them uniquely to them.

A shot description of homeopathic remedies:

Allium cepa –  Burning, smarting sensation with watery eyes. Violent sneezing with runny nose. Watery discharge is bland. Nasal discharge is acrid and irritating. Think of how you feel when you cut an onion. This homeopathic remedy is made from the red onion.

Euphrasia – Profuse watery eye and nose discharges. Eye discharge is hot, acrid, and irritating, while the nose discharge is bland. Eyes are red and sore, almost looking like a raccoon.

Sabadilla – Common hay fever symptoms: nasal discharge. Spasmodic/violent sneezing, itchy nose, red and runny eyes. Tickling and itching – nose, roof of mouth, throat. Or a sensation of a hair or morsel hanging down at the back of the throat with the constant urge to swallow. Better outside.

Nux vomica – Typical hay fever symptoms: sneezing, itchiness, runny eyes. Irritable, chilliness, impatience, oversensitive to odors, noise, and touch. Feels need to sneeze, but cannot.

Homeopathic Care

You may even see yourself a little bit in one of these remedies. And maybe one of these remedies will help you. I don’t recommend that someone treat themselves for a chronic condition. A chronic condition is ongoing and periodical, such as hay fever. With this kind of health concern, I recommend that someone see a homeopathic practitioner or homeopath. There are over 4,000 homeopathic remedies. There is one that fits you, that is similar to you.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

To determine this remedy, the one that is similar to you, the homeopath gets to know the whole of you by listening, observing, and witnessing what bothers you, how you experience the hay fever, and more. The hay fever is a part of the whole picture of you. All of this information helps guide the homeopath in selecting the homeopathic remedy that fits you, is similar you.

I would be happy to talk with you about how you experience hay fever. Either contact me here on this blog, or through my website www.homeopathytoheal.com.

My Best Teachers Are My Patients

I have studied homeopathy for many years. I have had wonderful teachers. My best teachers, though, have been my patients. I have learned many, many things from them.

The biggest thing I have learned, is that I need to be flexible and open to the person who is sitting in front of me. Being open to hear, to see, and to witness their world, their sufferings, their sensitivities, their language, their expressions, and their process of healing.

I may have preconceived thoughts on how someone heals or what remedy is needed, but tree sunsetultimately it is this patient who is sitting in front of me who “tells” me how to proceed. They will always “tell” me what homeopathic remedy is needed, what potency (strength) to use, how often to take the homeopathic remedy, and when to change the homeopathic remedy to another one. As they are moving through their healing process, they are “telling” me what is needed.

For whatever health concern that brings someone to homeopathy, it is always seeing the wholeness and the individuality of the person. It is being flexible and open to how they experience what bothers them and how they heal.

slanted door

This particular door was probably built this way to fit the space of the entrance to the building. And the building may have been built on a hill. The photo gives the impression of being off, and it is a little bit unsettling to look at it.

This unsettling and off feeling may be the way someone experiences vertigo. In addition to being dizzy, the person may also feel discomfort in other parts of their body, such as in their digestion, vision, sense of balance, emotions, hearing, head, and more.

Vertigo Is Different For Each Person

This list will give you an idea how differently people can experience vertigo.

  • During menses
  • With nausea
  • Aggravated by motion
  • When lying down
  • When turning around in bed
  • Upon raising up                                                                                                                            whirligig-773644_960_720
  • When raising their head
  • With staggering
  • When riding in a boat, a car, on horseback
  • After an accident or trauma
  • While walking
  • When stooping
  • Vomiting when feeling dizzy
  • During the morning, afternoon, evening, or night
  • Heat – during, before, from being
  • Closing eyes
  • Looking downward, to left side, to right side
  • After fright
  • After an emotional upset
  • When someone has an ear infection
  • And more

Healing With Homeopathy

From the hearing, observing, and witnessing how the person experiences their vertigo, the homeopath chooses the homeopathic remedy that fits this particular person. In homeopathy, it is always learning about the individual, and addressing the wholeness of this person.

Do you experience feeling off? Do you have vertigo? Have you used some healing modalities that helped you at first, but are not healing any longer? Has the vertigo returned? Feeling dizzy consistently in your life is a difficult way to live.

What Is Itching You? – Skin Eruptions And Homeopathy

Recently, I was in my local health food store. I was talking to one of the sales people who I have known for a long time. A woman came up to the sales person and said, I am the woman who called earlier about a product for my daughter to help remove skin tags. We all three were standing in the aisle where the homeopathic remedies were located, and that particular product was right in front of us. After the woman left, I looked at the product. It was a box, on which was written “Thuja Occidentalis Homeopathic”. I believe it was an ointment or a liquid that was used topically. (The plant Thuja Occidentalis is made into a homeopathic remedy. The wasn’t the homeopathic remedy of Thuja Occidentalis.)

This interaction inspired me to write about skin eruptions. I have written a little bit about this topic before in two earlier posts. One post talked about eczema, and the other post was in reference to Direction of Cure. I have given the links here.

Skin Eruptions

I know that many people, of all ages, suffer with different kinds of skin eruptions. A skin eruption can be eczema, psoriasis, impetigo, acne, skin irritationrosacea, cysts, boils, warts, skin tags, pustules, hives, or other rashes. They are experienced as being:

  • painful
  • a nerve type pain, such as in shingles
  • a burning pain
  • an itchiness
  • a soreness
  • a redness
  • an inflammation
  • swollen
  • an oozing and discharging of pus or blood
  • become scabbed
  • a dryness
  • a roughness
  • a scaliness and flakiness
  • an embarrassment
  • worrisome
  • a discomfort
  • wanting to hide it and cover it up
  • affecting one’s functioning ability at work and in social situations
  • more

Not Just On The Skin

Please note that I have listed physical sensations AND emotional responses AND how it affects one. I say this because skin eruptions are not just on the skin. They are a reflection of something deeper in the body, stairs spiralthat is manifesting on the skin. To just care for the skin eruption by doing something topically on the skin, such as this treatment that the woman was going to use for her daughter, is not necessarily healing, and is not addressing where the skin eruption is coming from.

A skin eruption is a response or a reaction of something deeper in the body or system of the person. These can be from:

  • an allergic reaction to foods, chemicals, toxins, fabrics, medicines or others substances in the person’s environment.
  • a systemic imbalance.
  • a hormonal change or part of a cycle. It get even be a response to birth control medication – when starting, during or stopping the medication.
  • a reaction to stress, anxiety, grief, fear, or other emotions. I know of a woman who developed hives soon after her husband passed away.
  • a part of the healing that accompanies a fever, such as in the measles and chicken pox. The rash in these childhood diseases are important and part of the healing process. You want the rash to be present.

Homeopathy To Heal

Homeopathy is very healing for people who suffer with skin eruptions. Homeopathy heals at the root of where the symptoms are coming from, in this case, where the skin eruptions are coming from. Each person experiences what bothers them differently. With the understanding of the person’s suffering, a homeopathic remedy that is similar to this is given. This homeopathic remedy stimulates the person’s own healing process. The person feels better in themselves, and the symptoms that brought them in for homeopathic care are better. In this case, the skin eruptions are better.

To Continue My Story

After the mother had left, I said to the sales person, I would want to know what bothers the daughter. Perhaps the skin tags bother the mother more than they do the daughter. And in fact, they don’t bother the daughter at all. If the skin tags do bother the daughter, I would want to know how she experiences them. It is always finding out about the person, what bothers them, and how they experience it. It is not just treating someone with a one size fits all product.

Using Skype For A Homeopathic Appointment

Last week I wrote about making a house call to see a patient. This week, I want to talk about using Skype for a homeopathic consultation appointment. In a way, it is like making a house call; you can see a little bit of the patient’s environment. I use Skype with skyp cartoonpatients who do not live locally to the San Diego area; patients who may not be able to come in for an appointment; or patients, who may live locally, but a house call is not feasible.

Using Skype

Mostly, I use Skype with patients that don’t live in the San Diego area. I have several patients with whom I work with this way. Skype is a free program, that one downloads from the internet. It is easy to use. You do need a camera that is either part of the computer, or you can purchase a separate camera that attaches to the computer. Skype has enabled people to communicate visually and audibly with each other from all over the world.

skype-835470_960_720Important To See The Patient

As a homeopath, it is important to see the patient. I do quick check ins with a patient through emails, texts, and/or phone calls, but for the initial consultation, and for follow up appointments, seeing the patient is crucial.

When I meet with a patient, either in person or through Skype, I am listening and seeing what it is that bothers them. As the patient is talking, they will often use a hand gesture, move their body in a certain way, sit a certain way and/or be expressive with their face. These movements may come when certain words or descriptions are spoken or when they are sensing something within. All of this, their gestures and movements and their language is expressive of how they experience what bothers them.

As I have said in other posts, it is like getting into their world, hearing and seeing the perceptions and sensations of the person, and understanding their language. This is so whether they have a physical, an emotional, a mental, or a spiritual complaint/issue/symptom that brought them initially in for homeopathic care. It is finding out about the whole person. A homeopathic remedy is given that is similar to the wholeness of the person. This homeopathic remedy stimulates the person’s innate healing abilities.

This Post

I write this post because some of you who read my blog may not live locally to San Diego, and are interested in homeopathy for yourself or for a loved one. Skype is a very good way to have an appointment when there is a distance.

I would be happy to talk further with you on how homeopathy can be of help for you. Please contact me here, or through my website www.homeopathytoheal.com.

Being With Someone

Can we be so unbiased that we can just be with someone and hear? See  elephant-1046785_960_720who this person is? Can we quiet down our inner chatter? Not wondering what to do or what to say to this person, while we are listening?

Can we just be? Not letting our own feelings of discomfort come up, and then say things from that place, such as this is what I think you need, or this is what is bothering you, or I had that too, or this is how it was for me, or something something that we think may perk up the person, but it is really helping us. Can we just not blah blah? And instead, just be, even if we are uncomfortable?

I wrote about “listening through” in one of my blog posts. Click here to read this blog. Some of what listening through is being in an unbiased, open place as a listener. Doing this listening with a patient, with a friend, with the person who is in front of us. And to be just with them. Knowing, on some level, that we are separate from each them, and also not separate. Letting the person be, just be.

I had shared this video on my Facebook page of Oprah Winfrey and Thich Hnat Hanh talking in one of her Super Soul Sunday programs. I want to include it here on this blog for you to view. Oprah Winfrey and Thich Hnat Hanh talk about deep listening – to help relieve suffering from the person who is talking. It is compassionate listening. Through this kind of listening, Thich Hnat Hanh says that we learn about the other person’s perceptions and learn about our own perceptions. It is helpful in all kinds of relationships – personal, family, work, friends, between countries, and between those who have different beliefs.

This video made an impression on me. I would like to say that a similar compassionate listening is done in a homeopathic consultation, or at least that is the intention. To be a blank slate. To be an unbiased and open listener. It is hearing and witnessing the person’s suffering – physically, emotionally, mentally, and/or spiritually. Giving space. And being with this person.

The word homeopathy means “similar suffering”. The homeopath listens to the person’s suffering, to what is bothering them, and how they experience their suffering. Then the similar to the suffering is given in the form of a homeopathic remedy. This homeopathic remedy stimulates the person’s innate healing abilities. And they start to feel better and well.
