Why Do I Practice Homeopathy?

Why do I practice homeopathy?

I feel that people are looking for a natural, non-invasive, deep healing modality. They may be tired of not feeling well, and tired of taking medications that are not really healing. And they want to be better.

Why do I practice homeopathy?

It is to offer a healing modality that truly is healing. Healing at the root cause from which umbrella-1521492_1280the symptoms, and the discomfort and the pains come from.

Why do I practice homeopathy?

Because I see as people heal and are doing better, they are more at ease to be fully themselves, and are no longer being limited by a physical symptom or an emotional stuckness.

Why do I practice homeopathy?

I see people as they heal, through the help of homeopathy, being able to use other healing modalities in a much more constructive and positive way.

Why do I practice homeopathy?

It makes sense to me. It resonates with me. It is a WOW to me.

Homeopathy: Putting Together, Piece By Piece, The Jigsaw Puzzle That is You

I was at a meeting the other day, and the presenter was talking about sole business owners and how they need to develop and to nurture themselves and their business. The presenter specifically was talking about having a plan, a picture, a vision of what you are working towards for your business. She gave the analogy of a jigsaw puzzle, saying that when you work on a jigsaw puzzle you need the picture of what it will be when finished, otherwise, you won’t know what it will turn out to be. This is the same with your business, she said, you need a picture/plan/vision to know where you are going and if you are going in the right direction.

I thought this was a good analogy to what she was talking about. And I thought, this was not true with homeopathy.

The Pieces Make Up The Whole

In homeopathy, the homeopath doesn’t have a picture to look at as they are meeting with the patient. They have no idea what the whole picture will be like or turn out to be beforehand. The homeopath views, observes, witnesses, listens to jigsaw-puzzle-712465_960_720the pieces as the person is speaking, and puts these pieces together making the picture, the whole picture, of this person.

The person may say they have ADHD like symptoms, depression, eczema, digestive issues, or headaches. This may sound like the picture, but for the homeopath it doesn’t tell them anything about this particular person. It is a piece of the puzzle, a piece of the whole.

When we go to see a doctor, we are used to having each piece treated, separately. Have a headache, take this medication. Have digestive issues take this medication. That is how western medicine works. This is not so with homeopathy.

Healing With Homeopathy

The homeopath is finding out about all of the pieces of the person, and putting them together to make a full picture of THIS person who is in front of them. The picture is of THIS person, not of the ADHD symptoms, the digestive issues, the depression, the eczema or the headaches. It is the totality of the person. A homeopathic remedy is then given that is similar to the wholeness of the person, stimulating the person’s own healing abilities.

One Patient

A woman came for homeopathic treatment because she had lingering effects from an injury. She talked about this injury, as well as other parts of her life (pieces). As she was healing after taking the homeopathic remedy, the lingering effects from the injury subsided; she was sleeping better; her interactions with her family members improved; and she was experiencing less discomfort and symptoms as she transitioned into menopause. All of these are pieces of her, making up the totality of her. The healing is of the whole person, and as the person heals, the pieces heal too.

Preventive Care – Taking Care Of Oneself Now

Recently, I was talking to a woman about how she would like to live her life as she gets older. She said that she wants to live a healthy and full life, well into her 80’s and 90’s. She wants to be active, alert, healthy, and self sufficient. Her thinking is that now at this time of the her life, by taking good care of herself, she will be this person in her later years. It is very positive. She was asking me if I see people for preventive care in my homeopathic practice.

Preventative Care

It is making preparations. It is taking care of the concentric circles“soil” from which everything comes from in us. It is taking as good a care of ourselves now, so later on, we are in as good of health as we can be. It is preventive care:

  • eating well
  • exercising
  • getting good sleep
  • surrounding ourselves with like minded, positive, and supportive people
  • being our authentic self
  • doing activities that we love
  • being mindful of our thoughts and the words we use (of and about ourselves)
  • seeing regularly a health practitioner such as a chiropractor, an acupuncturist, a massage therapist, a western physician, an herbalist, a therapist, a hypnotherapist, an osteopath, an energy worker, and a homeopath

You often hear of people having monthly massages, chiropractic adjustments, or acupuncture treatments. A patient of mine said to me, I had a chiropractic adjustment the other day which helped with my headache. These adjustments have helped along with doing homeopathy.

Homeopathy And Preventive Care

To be honest, patients do not come to see me for preventive care very often. Usually, there is a specific reason that is bothering the person that has brought them in for homeopathy, whether it is a physical complaint, an emotional issue, a certain ongoing behavior, difficulty sleeping, and more.

Homeopathy is, and would be very helpful for preventive care. Homeopathy addresses the whole person. It is healing the “soil”, that makes up the whole person. I find that the person wants to be healthy, wants to be well, and has a wonderful motivation to be so. They want care that is non-invasive, natural, truly healing, and has no side effects. They don’t want to go the route of taking medications that are not really helping, not healing, have side effects, and possibly needed to use indefinitely.

If a person were to come in to see me, and say it was for preventive care, I would say to them good, and tell me more:

  • why are you here?
  • what is your concern?
  • is there something that is bothering you?
  • how would you like things to be?

and then, listen.

*******

I invite you to have a conversation with me on how homeopathy can be helpful for you. You are someone who is invested in being as healthy as you can be. Please contact me here on this blog or through my website www.homeopathytoheal.com. I would be happy to talk with you.

I Am Often Asked – Can You Help Me With _____?

I think we want to know if a healing modality will help us before we start on the process. We want to know if it has helped others who experience or suffer from the same health concern that we do. So often, that is the question I am asked – Have you treated other hand-838975_960_720people with ________? Can you help me?

Because everyone is different, and different even if they experience the same health concern, such as eczema. The answer to that above question, is yes and no. I may have helped someone who has that ___________, (the yes) but I am almost sure that that person experienced the health concern differently deep down, uniquely to them, than the person who is asking me about it now (the no). There are the general symptoms and experiences of that health concern, such as itching, redness, and oozing with eczema, but the core of what it is like for each person is different.

We Want A Good “Pudding”

So still to answer that concern about getting help through homeopathy, the answer is what one of my teachers/mentors/colleagues has said “the proof is in the pudding”. Is the patient better? That is always it – is the patient better? That is the proof.

We want what brought the person in for homeopathy to be better, along with a better sense of general well being. And often, other health concerns are better as well, such as with women, there may be improvement in their menstrual cycle, even though that is not what they came in for. We want in a healing, that the totality, the wholeness of the person is better.

Some examples of a healing, of a good “pudding”:

  • When I hear that a young woman who feels nauseous all the time, starts to have a tremendous appetite after starting the homeopathic remedy that fits her, I think this is a good start to her healing.
  • When I see that a woman who had a severe concussion in a car accident less than a year ago, making it difficult to do things she normally does, starts to be able to focus on activities better pebbles-1031167_960_720without feeling nauseous and dizzy, I think this is a good start to her healing.
  • When I see a young boy, who has been on round and round of antibiotics for an ear infection, no longer experiencing ear infections, I think this is a good healing.
  • When I see a woman who experiences great discomfort during her pregnancy – morning sickness, headaches, dizziness, heart palpitations, fogginess – experience a lessening of all of these, I think this is a good healing.
  • When I see a woman have depressive thoughts, and wants to just stay inside away from other people, start to open up to to the outside world, becoming involved with people, and speaking who she is, I think this is a good healing.

I Invite You To Tell Me More

Over the years, people have specifically asked me if homeopathy can be help for: headaches, metabolism issues, allergies, weight loss, severe cramping during their periods, insomnia, weakness and fatigue, eczema on their hands, acting out at school, help with arthritic pain, fibromyalgia type symptoms, difficulty focusing, anxiety, mood swings, and more. I say to these people, yes homeopathy can help you, and tell me more.

I invite you to ask – Can you help me with __________? And then to tell me more.

Using Skype For A Homeopathic Appointment

Last week I wrote about making a house call to see a patient. This week, I want to talk about using Skype for a homeopathic consultation appointment. In a way, it is like making a house call; you can see a little bit of the patient’s environment. I use Skype with skyp cartoonpatients who do not live locally to the San Diego area; patients who may not be able to come in for an appointment; or patients, who may live locally, but a house call is not feasible.

Using Skype

Mostly, I use Skype with patients that don’t live in the San Diego area. I have several patients with whom I work with this way. Skype is a free program, that one downloads from the internet. It is easy to use. You do need a camera that is either part of the computer, or you can purchase a separate camera that attaches to the computer. Skype has enabled people to communicate visually and audibly with each other from all over the world.

skype-835470_960_720Important To See The Patient

As a homeopath, it is important to see the patient. I do quick check ins with a patient through emails, texts, and/or phone calls, but for the initial consultation, and for follow up appointments, seeing the patient is crucial.

When I meet with a patient, either in person or through Skype, I am listening and seeing what it is that bothers them. As the patient is talking, they will often use a hand gesture, move their body in a certain way, sit a certain way and/or be expressive with their face. These movements may come when certain words or descriptions are spoken or when they are sensing something within. All of this, their gestures and movements and their language is expressive of how they experience what bothers them.

As I have said in other posts, it is like getting into their world, hearing and seeing the perceptions and sensations of the person, and understanding their language. This is so whether they have a physical, an emotional, a mental, or a spiritual complaint/issue/symptom that brought them initially in for homeopathic care. It is finding out about the whole person. A homeopathic remedy is given that is similar to the wholeness of the person. This homeopathic remedy stimulates the person’s innate healing abilities.

This Post

I write this post because some of you who read my blog may not live locally to San Diego, and are interested in homeopathy for yourself or for a loved one. Skype is a very good way to have an appointment when there is a distance.

I would be happy to talk further with you on how homeopathy can be of help for you. Please contact me here, or through my website www.homeopathytoheal.com.

Making A House Call As A Homeopath

house-787037_960_720The other week I made a house call to a new patient. It was a woman in her mid 80’s. It was about a 40 minute drive to my consultation clinic from her house. I have made a few house calls over the years, but very rarely. As I was giving her the driving directions to my clinic, I could see that she was confused about exiting off of the freeway. It was at this point I offered to make a house. And I knew that her confusion was part of her case.

Making House Calls

Homeopaths in the past made house calls routinely. It was part of their practice. It was seeing someone in their sick bed, they would say. Seeing where someone lived, their environment, whether the windows were open, closed, or slightly open. If the person was covered or uncovered. Who else lived there with them. If the room was dark or light, messy or neat. If it was a cold room, a hot room or a damp room. How the person spoke or didn’t speak to other members in the house. And more. It all contributed to learning and getting a complete picture of the person. It was part of taking the person’s case. And it would still be so today.

My Patient

I felt that going to this woman’s home gave me some information about her that I may have not gotten if she had come to my consultation clinic. She had mentioned during our consultation, actually she had mentioned it several times, that she does a lot of reading, and reads about a specific topic. Towards the end of the consultation she said to me, I want to show you something. I want to show you my books, the ones that I own, and the ones I take living-room-877254_960_720out of the library.

We walked into another room where these books were stacked neatly on top of each other on one shelf. The titles were facing horizontally outward. I have read each of these books twice, she said. I needed to do that, because I didn’t understand them the first time. I don’t have any more of these books right now to read. I need to get more. I need to go to the library.

The topic of the books reflected her questioning in a certain area. She seemed to be looking for answers or an explanation about life.

It Is Always About the Whole Person

The homeopath is finding out about the whole person. It is through witnessing, listening, and observing how the person experiences what bothers them. In a way, it is getting into their world, hearing their perceptions, understanding and decoding their language. This is so whether the complaint that brought the person in for homeopathic care is physical, emotional, mental or spiritual. By being in someone’s home, seeing their environment, seeing what they have created in their environment, and more, can add greatly to knowing the person.

I see most of my patients in my consultation clinic. And I will continue to do so. If there is a need for me to go to the home of the patient, because driving is difficult for them, for example, I will go.

I am always happy to talk to you about homeopathy, and how it can be of help for one’s health. Either contact me here on this blog, or through my website www.homeopathytoheal.com

Being With Someone

Can we be so unbiased that we can just be with someone and hear? See  elephant-1046785_960_720who this person is? Can we quiet down our inner chatter? Not wondering what to do or what to say to this person, while we are listening?

Can we just be? Not letting our own feelings of discomfort come up, and then say things from that place, such as this is what I think you need, or this is what is bothering you, or I had that too, or this is how it was for me, or something something that we think may perk up the person, but it is really helping us. Can we just not blah blah? And instead, just be, even if we are uncomfortable?

I wrote about “listening through” in one of my blog posts. Click here to read this blog. Some of what listening through is being in an unbiased, open place as a listener. Doing this listening with a patient, with a friend, with the person who is in front of us. And to be just with them. Knowing, on some level, that we are separate from each them, and also not separate. Letting the person be, just be.

I had shared this video on my Facebook page of Oprah Winfrey and Thich Hnat Hanh talking in one of her Super Soul Sunday programs. I want to include it here on this blog for you to view. Oprah Winfrey and Thich Hnat Hanh talk about deep listening – to help relieve suffering from the person who is talking. It is compassionate listening. Through this kind of listening, Thich Hnat Hanh says that we learn about the other person’s perceptions and learn about our own perceptions. It is helpful in all kinds of relationships – personal, family, work, friends, between countries, and between those who have different beliefs.

This video made an impression on me. I would like to say that a similar compassionate listening is done in a homeopathic consultation, or at least that is the intention. To be a blank slate. To be an unbiased and open listener. It is hearing and witnessing the person’s suffering – physically, emotionally, mentally, and/or spiritually. Giving space. And being with this person.

The word homeopathy means “similar suffering”. The homeopath listens to the person’s suffering, to what is bothering them, and how they experience their suffering. Then the similar to the suffering is given in the form of a homeopathic remedy. This homeopathic remedy stimulates the person’s innate healing abilities. And they start to feel better and well.

Recurring Health Concerns

This past week, I had a call from a father about his 3 month old baby daughter. He has had experience with homeopathy before having taken his older child to see a homeopath. He told me that his little baby daughter was not feeling well. She had had a cold several weeks ago, was better, but now she was not feeling well again. She wasn’t running a fever, and he didn’t think that she was in pain. He said she was irritable.

I was thinking that maybe her irritability was an expression of some sort of pain or discomfort. Obviously, she wasn’t feeling well. Babies and small children don’t tell us through words how they are feeling, but through sounds, behaviors, actions, movements, changes in moods and temperaments. This baby was expressing something through her irritability.

Unfortunately, the father cancelled the appointment he had made with me for his daughter. He told me that they had taken her to see a doctor, who said that it was a cold. The father decided to not pursue homeopathic care, at this time. I said, if the cold continues, or if it returns, it would be a good idea to bring your daughter in for homeopathic care, since she already has been experiencing a recurrence of this, and we don’t want that to continue.

People I Speak To

gumby sickWhen I talk to people either in person or on the phone, they tell me about their particular health concern. I hear all sorts of things, such as the person is experiencing pains and discomforts in their feet. They have an extremely itchy rash or eczema eruption. Breathing is difficult for them. The get very anxious in some situations. There are feelings of sadness or depression. They don’t sleep well. During their menstrual cycle certain symptoms come up. They are extremely fearful and/or have nightmares. They have ongoing headaches, stomachaches, or digestive issues. I hear all sorts of things. The person is not feeling well, and they want to feel better.

Recurring Health Concern

Their health concern is often something that has been going on for a awhile, or it had gone away and now it is recurring again. They have periodic flare ups of it. They are not feeling better from the type of treatment they are using for their health concern, and they want to feel better.

In a previous post, I wrote about a young boy who had recurring congestion, fevers and ear infections. The boy had taken several courses of antibiotics. Each time, he would be better for a month or so, and then the whole situation would happen again. The homeopathic remedy that fit him, that was similar to what he was experiencing, helped him to heal this recurrence of the ear infections, the fevers, and the congestion. He has done well.

Often when there is a recurring health concern, the treatment being used helps to ease and to palliate when there is an outbreak or flare up. This treatment helps the person feel better for the time being, but doesn’t heal the health concern. The person needs to continue taking the medication to feel better, often accepting that these recurrences will happen again, and again.

Does this sound like you?

Healing With Homeopathy

Homeopathy heals at the root cause of what is bothering the person. It is a deep healing. As the person heals, the recurrences and flare ups become less and less, till they no longer happen at all. It is a healing. With the young boy I wrote of, I had thought there might be a recurrence of the ear infection as he was healing, but there wasn’t. The cycle was broken. With an adult, the stopping of the cycle may take longer to happen than with this young boy, since the adult has had this health concern for a longer period of time. But the cycle does end.

I invite you to see how homeopathy can help a recurring health concern that you have. Either contact me here, through this blog or through my website www.homeopathytoheal.com. I offer a 15 minute complimentary Get Acquainted Call. I would be happy to talk with you about your health concern and/or a loved one.

Is The Holiday Season A Difficult Time For You? Homeopathy Helps

It is just about the start of the holiday season. Stores are starting to be more crowded. The temperatures are cooler. We are making plans – to travel, to see friends and family, to host and attend parties, for celebrations, and to shop. This time of year can be both wonderful, and can be difficult for people. It brings up a lot in us, about ourselves, our families, our financial tree reflectionsituation, our childhoods, our futures, our children, our hopes, our dreams, and our health. A lot. In many, many ways, it is a busier time of the year.

(Two years ago, I wrote a post talking about the holiday blues. I wanted to write about the holiday season again. You can read that earlier post by clicking here.)

The Holiday Season

During the holiday season, we can be more susceptible to becoming ill, whether we become ill or there is a flare up of an ongoing chronic health concern that we experience from time to time. We may be more sensitive to our surroundings at this time of the year, and therefore experience more triggers. Our schedule is different, sleeping too little, staying up late at night and getting up early in the morning. The foods we eat are different. We eat and drink too much. We travel and are in different time zones. We are around more people, the general public and our families and friends. We are alone, and may feel isolated. We have expectations of the holidays, of ourselves, and where we are in our lives. All of these could be triggers.

Getting Sick During The Holiday Season

Someone may say, you know, every year around the Christmas holidays I get sick, like with a really bad flu. Or someone else may say, this time of the year is when I get so many asthma attacks, I wonder why. And for others, their digestion may be off. Some may experience more headaches. Others are feeling more anxiety or depression. And others may have flare ups of their skin eruptions. These are just a few of what some people may experience.

The important thing is to take care of yourself. Listen to what your body, and your soul needs, or doesn’t need. Listen to your gut. Kind of checking in with yourself. Trusting and honoring yourself.

Healing With Homeopathy

Homeopathy can be very helpful and healing during this time of the year. I have heard some homeopaths talk about their practice being quite busy during the holiday months, November thru January. Issues, emotions, situations, responses, reactions, and physical complaints and concerns may come more to the surface than at other times of the year. Because they are more accessible and right there on the surface, it may be a good time to come for homeopathic care.

I invite you to give yourself, and/or a loved one, the gift of health. I would be happy to talk with you, either through this blog or through my website www.homeopathytoheal.com.

*******

I will be continuing to write a weekly blog, but I wanted to get this one out at the start of this holiday season. Whatever holidays you celebrate, I wish you a wonderful time filled with happiness, fun, safety, joy, and health.

What Is A Homeopathic Medicine?

Although, many people know the word homeopathy, since they hear it being used in the media, and also see it printed on products, they don’t really know what homeopathy is. For many, homeopathy has become synonymous for natural, and used that way in the media when blocks spelling homeopathydescribing healing modalities and products. When someone hears me talk about what I do, when I am talking about homeopathy, they may say to me, or think to themselves, what she is talking about is essential oils, herbal medicine, and/or supplements. But that is not what homeopathy is.

Homeopathy is its own system of medicine. It was developed by the German physician Samuel Hahnemann in the late 1700’s. Homeopathy means “similar suffering”. Through listening, observing, and understanding what bothers the person and how they experience it, a homeopathic medicine is given that is similar. This similar homeopathic medicine stimulates the person’s own healing. To read more about homeopathy and homeopathic remedies. (I encourage you to read this. And I use the words homeopathic remedy and homeopathic medicines interchangeably.)

What Is A Homeopathic Medicine?

Because homeopathy is often confused with other healing modalities. I wanted to tell you what a homeopathic medicine is. There are over 4000 homeopathic-remedies-bottles-different-35796044homeopathic medicines. They are made from plants, minerals, animals, and other natural sources. Think how many plants there are in the world. Many of these plants have been made into homeopathic medicines. Think of the periodic table. All of these elements have been made into a homeopathic medicine. And think of animals – mammals, snakes, spiders, insects, mollusks, sea animals, and birds. Many of these have been made into homeopathic medicines.

Only a small part of the substance that the homeopathic medicine is being made from is used to make the homeopathic medicine. And with animals, the animal is not killed. A small part of the milk, wing, blood, or venom is used to make the homeopathic medicine.

The homeopathic medicines that I use in my practice are purchased from a homeopathic pharmacy, such as Hahnemann in Northern California, and Helios in England. These pharmacies make the homeopathic medicines on their premises, using the method that Dr. Samuel Hahnemann developed. There are other pharmacies in Europe, India, the US, and other parts of the world.

Your Use Of Homeopathic Medicines

Many of you have used the homeopathic medicine Arnica montana for bruising and shock after an injury, a trauma, dental work, or a fall. And possibly you have used other homeopathic medicines. Some of you have seen a homeopath for treatment. You have found homeopathy to be healing and helpful.

Healing With Homeopathy

The healing with homeopathic care is deep. Homeopathy is helpful for many of the health concerns people experience today. I invite you to see how homeopathy can be a deep healing for you, and for your loved ones. I would be happy to talk with you. Either contact me here through this blog, or through my website www.homeopathytoheal.com. I have a complimentary Get Acquainted Call.
