Flu – Taking Care Of Yourself

Wishing you all a happy HOLIDAY SEASON!

At this time of year we start to hear about the flu. We are also hearing about a new variant of the coronavirus.

Homeopathy has always been helpful for someone who has the flu. It also has been helpful for people who have come down with any of the strains of the coronavirus. Historically, homeopathy has been helpful during pandemics. This was so during the 1918- 1919 Spanish Flu.

Usually, when there is an epidemic, and also during a flu season, specific homeopathic remedies are used for the particular strain of flu or for the epidemic at that time. This has been so with the coronavirus epidemic that we have been going through, whether it is with having come down with the virus; having lingering, long haul types of symptoms; or experiencing side effects from the vaccines.

Taking Care Of Yourself

It is always good to take care of yourself. Taking care of yourself can mean a lot of different things:beach-690125_960_720

  • Using different healing modalities  – chiropractic, acupuncture, Chinese medicine, homeopathy, vitamins, western medicine.
  • Exercising – going for walks or hikes, yoga, swimming.
  • Being in nature. (I love the beach.)
  • Pursuing activities you love.
  • Eating good, organic, nourishing foods.
  • Sleeping well and feeling rested.
  • Laughing and smiling.
  • Being with people you love.
  • Checking in with yourself. Being aware of your thoughts and feelings.
  • Having a spiritual practice. This can be a lot of different things, even some of what is listed above.

“HEY SLOW DOWN”

Sometimes, though, even with taking care of yourself, you may become ill. It is okay to be sick. I think we have come to the thinking that being sick is not good. When we are sick or not feeling well, it is our body, our vital force, telling us “Hey, slow down. I am making you slow down.” When we are sick, we do slow down, rest and take the the time to care for ourselves.

Our bodies have a wonderful ability to heal itself. Sometimes we need a little help. Homeopathy assists the body in its own healing. The symptoms that a person is experiencing is the way the person is trying to heal themselves. Sometimes the person gets stuck in these symptoms. The homeopath uses the symptoms as a guide to help select the homeopathic remedy that fits the person, that is similar to the person. This is Like Cures Like or The law of Similars, which is one of the main principles of homeopathy. The given homeopathic remedy stimulates the person’s own healing, getting them unstuck. Sometimes a series of homeopathic remedies are needed, using one at a time, as the person moves through the healing process.

For Healing – It Is Individual, Not A One Size Fits All

Not A One Size Fits All

We are all different. We experience our health concerns uniquely to ourselves. We may be given a diagnosis, a name, a label that includes the yellow umbrellasymptoms we are experiencing. But we are different.

The treatments we use need to fit who we are as an individual, not just to the diagnosis, the label, or the general, usual, common symptoms of the diagnosis. We need treatments that fit what we are experiencing.

We are not all the same. It is not a one size fits all.

The Season 2020 – 2021

We are hearing a lot about the flu, and the coronavirus as we go into Fall and then Winter. I always like to be supportive and positive in what I write here, and when I see patients. I feel that there is a lot of fear being put out into the public. There are ways to take care of ourselves and our families if we do become ill with the flu or with the coronavirus. Homeopathy being one of those ways, and a very good healing modality.

And the one size doesn’t fit all, pertains to the flu too.

When A Child Runs A Fever

This weekend I was at a friend’s open house, and I was talking to a mom about her 2 year old little girl, Sarah, not her real name. Sarah was getting over being sick.  She had had a fever that ran more at night, than in the daytime. She had the fever for about 2 days, and it was pretty high. Sarah’s mom told me that this was the first time Sarah has been sick, and it was frightening to see her daughter run the fever and not feel well.

I commented to Sarah’s mom, that a fever is a good thing. It is the body’s way of healing. She agreed with me.

This is more of what I told Sarah’s mom:

Children often run higher fevers than adults do. With children, fevers, and other symptoms, come on quickly and suddenly, and seem to be very extreme; and, the fevers go away quickly and suddenly as well. This suddenness and extreme symptoms teddy-242868_960_720are a reflection of a STRONG vital force. It is a good sign. It is showing health. The body is doing what is does so well. The person doesn’t necessarily feel so good, but it is a good sign of health.

In comparison, someone who does not have a strong vital force, such as an older person or someone who has on ongoing chronic condition, may not run a fever at all, run a low fever, or run a fever off and on. And the illness may just drag on.

I added, that it is very common for children to run a fever at night, be fine the next day, playing and being active, and then run the fever again at night. Sarah’s mom said that is what had happened with Sarah, for two days.

I could tell that Sarah’s mom felt better hearing this. She seemed more relaxed, knowing that Sarah is healthy, and her body is  doing what a healthy body does.

*******

Sometimes, a person needs some help in their healing process. Homeopathy can be very helpful when someone is running a fever, has the flu, or has a cold. And if you are concerned when you or a loved one is running a fever, it is always good to check with your physician.

If I can be of any help, please contact me here on this blog, or through my website www.homeopathytoheal.com. I do see patients outside the San Diego area through the use of Skype.

Flu Season, Again – Taking Care Of Ourselves

This is the time of year that I usually write a post about the flu. We actually have not heard too much about how this flu season is looking. That doesn’t really matter. There are ways to help care for ourselves and our family as a whole if we do come down with the flu, or experience lingering affects from the flu. Homeopathy can help with all of these.

Previous Posts About The Flu

Here are links to prior posts that I have written about the flu:

  • Gives some homeopathic remedies that are helpful if someone comes down with the flu. (Click here)
  • Talks about taking care of yourself, and the history of using homeopathy during the flu season, specifically mentioning the 1918-1919 flu epidemic. (Click here)
  • Talks about how some people may move through the flu fine, but experience lingering affects afterwards, and how homeopathy is helpful. It is called “never been well since”. (Click here)
  • Talks about homeopathic care before, during and after pregnancy. If a pregnant woman comes down with the flu, homeopathy can be very helpful.  (Click here) (Unfortunately, it is becoming more common for pregnant women to be given the flu vaccine. The vaccine used to not be given at all at this time, knowing it was dangerous for the mother and the developing fetus.)

Taking Care Of Ourselves

Changes are happening all the time in our lives. We have losses – a loved one dies, a marriage ends, an expectation isn’t met, being fire from a job. We have new beginnings – a new home, a new educational program, a new job. Even the changes of the seasons and the time can affect us. It is okay that we are affected by these changes. It is life happening.

When these these changes happen, how do we respond to them? How do we react? cup-of-tea-and-honeyHow do we go through these events/changes? How do we listen to ourselves? How do we talk to ourselves? What do we do? What do we not do? Do we ask for help, if needed? How do we take care of ourselves during this time?

If we are not in our best health, we may be more susceptible to coming down with the flu. Taking care of ourselves can involve different kinds of healing modalities, walks, pursing activities we love, eating good food, sleeping well, exercising, laughing, being with people we love, and more. When we take good care of and respect ourselves, we are in a better place to care for our loved ones.

It Is Okay

Know that it is okay to get sick. It is okay to have the flu.

In a way if we do become ill, with the flu, it is often our body saying, “Hey, I am making you rest so you can take of yourself. Slow down.” And the body has a wonderful ability to heal itself, of taking care.

If I can be of any help, regarding the flu or any other health concern you may be experiencing, I encourage you do contact me here or through my website www.homeopathytoheal.com. Homeopathy helps and heals in many ways.

Are You Feeling Run Down? Homeopathy Can Help

We lead very busy lives. Work, family, commitments, responsibilities, even leisure activities. We live a fast paced life. Always busy, always having things that need to be done, going non-stop. And we experience a constant bombardment of information from the media.

Taking a break, resting, taking a day off is often a very good idea. Sometimes though, we don’t do this on our own, and our body says we  relaxingneed to. We need to rest; we need to take time off. What happens is that we may start to not feel well. We feel tired. We come down with something – a flu, a cold, a headache, a stomachache, a sore throat. We may experience a flare-up of an ongoing health issue, such as with our digestion, asthmatic symptoms, fatigue, anxiety, depression, skin eruptions and more. Our body is saying, hey, if you don’t take time off and slow down, I will make it so you have to take time off and slow down.

Does this sound a little familiar?

Being Run Down

I am writing this blog after the holiday season. At this time of the year, we have been so busy with family and friends, traveling, making preparations, shopping, going to and hosting parties, fulfilling expectations, eating, and more. And we may have not taken time to be quiet, and have down time. We have become run down.

It is very common to feel run down at this time of the year. It is good to take a day off, to take time for ourselves. And it is always good to listen to our bodies and to our inner voice on how we feel. To honor when we need to take time for ourselves.

Healing With Homeopathy

If this is happening very often to you, and you are feeling run down, becoming sick, and/or having flare-ups of a chronic condition on a regular basis, I invite you to schedule time for yourself, and to see how homeopathy can be of help to you in your health.

I would be very happy to talk with you further about your particular health concern. You can contact me here on this blog, or through my website www.homeopathytoheal.com.  I have a 15 minute Get Acquainted Call.

The Flu – What To Do? Homeopathy Helps

f letterIt is just about the start of flu season. I think we very often don’t know what to do about the flu. We become scared that we may get sick. And the media often adds to that fear. Some years we hear that the the particular strain of the flu is very virulent, and then it turns out that it was a mild season. We think, I most do anything so I and my family don’t come down with the flu.

What to do?

The first thing is to take good care of yourself and your family. Rest, eat good wholesome fresh food, drink liquids, wash your hands, listen to your body, exercise, go outside and get fresh air, do activities that you enjoy.

If you do become ill, rest and sleep, drink fluids, eat if you want to, don’t eat if you don’t want, listen to what your body letter lneeds. If you do have a fever, a fever is the way your body heals itself. The heat of the body kills off the bacteria and/or virus. A fever is a good thing. Vitamin A, D and C are helpful. Homeopathy is helpful too. I think it is important to know that if someone does become ill with the flu, that there are ways to help with the healing, and not to be scared.

Homeopathy Helps During The Flu

During the 1918-1919 influenza epidemic in the USA, homeopathic physicians recorded that those patients treated with homeopathy had a much lower mortality rate than those treated with conventional medicine.

There are homeopathic remedies that are helpful for when one feels ill from the flu. Often in a flu season, there are 2 – 3 specific homeopathic remedies that are good for that particular strain of flu. If you are not moving through the flu in a letter ureasonable amount of time, then homeopathy could be very helpful. Observe how you are feeling, and select a homeopathic remedy that is similar to how your are feeling. To read more about using homeopathic remedies if and when you come down with flu, click here to read that post.

Homeopathy Helps After The Flu

Sometimes, someone goes through the flu fine, but then there are some lingering affects. The person may tire easily. There may be a persistent cough. Their appetite may not have returned to what it was before they had become ill. Someone may feel light headed; experience aches and pains; have an off and on low grade fever; or just not feel well. This lingering experience may be longer than a few months. For example, someone may have a health condition for several years, and when asked what was going on when this condition started, the person may say I had the flu, and it was back in 2012, three years ago. Homeopathy is helpful in these kinds of situations – not well since having the flu. Click here to read more about never been well since the flu.

Homeopathy Heals

The homeopath listens to how each person experiences what bothers them. With the flu, the homeopath is hearing how the person is experiencing the flu – what their symptoms are like; their emotional state; wanting to be alone or wanting to be with company; their thirst; aches and pains; fevers and more. A homeopathic remedy is then selected that is similar to this. This similar homeopathic remedy stimulates the person’s innate healing abilities, and the person starts to feel better. Homeopathy is safe, gentle, and non toxic. And to know too that it is safe for pregnant women and nursing mothers to use.

It is good to know that if you do become ill with the flu, homeopathy can help and heal. If you have the flu, or are experiencing lingering affects of the flu, I invite you to contact me here on this blog or through my website www.homeopathytoheal.com.  I would be very happy to talk with you. I offer a Get Acquainted Phone Call.

When Someone Is Not Well After Having The Flu – Homeopthy Heals

still sickI know the flu season is technically over for this year. Sometimes, someone has had the flu, and has moved through it fairly well, but there may be some symptoms that linger, and this may continue for a period of time. The person may still be experiencing a lot of weakness, have difficulty breathing, running a low grade fever, feeling achy, and just not feeling well. This state may not be all the time. It may be at certain times of the day, such as at the end of the day. The person is just not feeling well, and are not back to the way they were feeling before they had had the flu.

 Patient Of Mine

A patient I have seen for many years called me. She was not feeling well and had the flu. This was 4 – 6 weeks ago. I had her take the homeopathic remedy that she has been using, and it helped with the flu. About 2 weeks ago, she called and said that although the flu was gone, she still was not feeling back to herself. I had her take another dose of the remedy, but this time it didn’t help. She came in for a consultation, and I took her case to find out more about how, and what she was feeling and experiencing at this time. A different remedy was needed. She was having episodes, she would say, of needing to lay down because she was feeling very weak, and having a difficult time breathing, of taking deep breaths. She was worried about what was happening to her. She felt anxious, almost like a panic attack, but not so, she said These episodes would come on very suddenly, and she needed to go lay down when they came on. They lasted for awhile. This happened at any time of the day. And often when she did too much, so she was limiting her daily activities.

I have not gone into complete detail about her case. It was slightly different from what she had been experiencing before, so I gave her a different homeopathic remedy than the one she had been taking, Actually, it was in the same family as the one she had been taking before. This new remedy helped her, and she started to feel better.

Never Been Well Since

This is an example of never been well since. Someone has been ill, as with the flu, or there has been a trauma, or a fall, or an emotional upset, and they haven’t been better since then.

As a coincidence, I was talking to a woman this week at a meeting. She remarked during our conversation that she had been sick, and then was better, But the last three weeks she hadn’t felt well. I wondered if there has been a lingering of the flu, or something else had happened in her life, and there was a lingering from that. Perhaps, she too was experiencing a never been well since.

Always Treating The Person

Whatever the situation is, the focus is always on the person, the individual person. It is not treating the disease, which is really just a name or a label. It is always treating the person, finding out what is bothering them and how they experience it.

*******

If you, or someone you know, has not been well since having the flu, homeopathy can be helpful and healing. I would be happy to talk to you. I offer a Get Acquainted Phone call. Either contact me here, by leaving a comment, or through my website www.homeopathytoheal.com,

The Flu – Healing With Homeopathy

I posted this blog post in January 2013. It is the flu season now, and I thought this information would be good for you all to have this year.

There are homeopathic remedies that are helpful for when one feels ill from the flu. Often in a flu season, there are 2 – 3 specific homeopathic remedies that are good for that particular strain of flu. During the 1918-1919 influenza epidemic in the USA, homeopathic physicians recorded that those patients treated with homeopathy had a lower mortality rate than those treated with conventional medicine.

To determine which remedy fits best, it is good to observe and to note how the ill person is feeling (you could be the ill person), even taking note of changes in behaviors and emotional moods. Some of the observations are:

  • tiredness/fatigue
  • heavy feeling
  • chilly/hot
  • aches and pains
  • gradual or sudden onset of symptoms
  • fever
  • cough
  • runny nose                                                                                                                                                                       influenza
  • headaches
  • stomach issues
  • thirst – a lot, a little, for what temperature
  • moving – makes one better or worse
  • wanting others around or wants to be alone
  • clingy
  • irritable
  • restless
  • what makes one better/worse
  • time of day when better/worse

Homeopathic Remedies

Here is a list of homeopathic remedies that are useful for the flu. As I wrote above, observe yourself or the ill person,  and then match with the description below. One of the main principles of homeopathy is The Law of Similars, which means Like Cures Like.  I suggest writing down your observations first. The ill person doesn’t have to experience all the symptoms that are listed in the description. Use the 30C potency of the chosen remedy.

You may start with one remedy, and then change to another as the healing progresses.  I had one case years ago of a woman in her 30’s. She started with the remedy Pulsatilla – she didn’t want to be alone and wanted to be with everyone else in the living room. Then she wanted to be in a back bedroom all by herself.  At that time, she needed the homeopathic remedy Bryonia.

ACONITE – symptoms come on suddenly and violently. The person is fearful, anxious and restless. May look anxious and flushed becoming pale when sitting up. Thirst for cold drinks. Head feels heavy. A dry barking cough. Worse before midnight. May feel that they will die.

ARSENICUM ALBUM – aching. Thirst for sips of warm or cold drinks. Burning pains here and there. Extreme weakness and debilitated, yet restless, anxious, fearful and irritable. Extremely chilly, but will want the window open. Wants to be with a friend to calm their fears. Nightly aggravation, after midnight. Obsessed with order, tidiness. Fastidious.

BAPTISIA – sore muscles. Putrid discharges. Prostration. Bed feels too hard, because of the soreness of the body. Confusion. Sensation that the body parts are separated. Face appears dusky and dull.

BRYONIA – worse from any movement. Irritable, doesn’t want people around. Wants to be alone. Constipated. Thirst for large amounts of cold water, although the mouth and lips are dry. Worse in a warm room. Better in cool air. Headaches worse from motion, walking or moving eyes.  Worse from any kind of motion; holds body parts still. Symptoms come on gradually. May have a painful cough and pain in the throat and chest. Pain is described as bursting or stitching.

BELLADONNA – sudden onset of high fever with burning, dry hot body (burning to touch) and icy cold feet. Violent symptoms. Face is flushed. Usually not thirsty, nor sweaty. May have intense fever terrors, to the point that the child does not recognize his parents. Worse in the afternoon.

EUPATORIUM PERFOLIATUM – deep soreness, aching and bruising feeling in the bones, as if the bones will break. Even the eyeballs are sore. May feel totally “wiped out”, lethargic, and unable to exert the least effort. Feels chilled, especially between 7 – 9 am. Great thirst for cold water, especially when chill comes on. Sweat makes all the symptoms better except the headache. Runny nose, sneezing and red eyes prior to body aches.

FERRUM PHOSPHORICUM – often used at the beginning of mild fevers, head colds and chest infections, before distinctive symptoms are shown that would lead to another remedy. Symptoms come on gradually. Red cheeks. Moderate thirst. Dull and sluggish.

GELSENIUM – slow onset, dullness, weakness, heaviness and aching. Listless and apathetic. Face is dull, heavy, flushed with heavy eyelids. Chills running up the spine. Wants to be left alone. Headache beginning in the back of the head or neck and extending upward. Mouth and lips are very dry, yet not thirsty. Lies quietly.

NUX VOMICA – irritability and sensitivity to light, odors and noise. Angry, impatient, easily offended. Chilly. Wants to be wrapped warmly. Constipated, with ineffectual urging.

PHOSPHORUS – often the person doesn’t show the severity of the illness. A child may have a temperature of 104, yet be playing happily. Colds go down to the chest, accompanied by a dry tight cough. Feels very weak. Thirsty for refreshing ice cold drinks, but may vomit as soon as water is warmed in the stomach. Laryngitis with or without pain. May lose voice completely.

PULSATILLA – person may be tearful and emotional. Wants company and desires sympathy. Usually has no thirst. Desire for the open air. Discharges are thick.

RHUS TOX – restless. Aches and pains while lying still. Worse when first starting to move, better with continuous motion. Chilly. Worse in cold and damp air. Thirsty for sips of water. Dry mouth, dry sore throat.

Listen to yourself and your body. It is also good to get as much rest as you can, and to drink fluids. If you feel like eating, eat, if you don’t feel like eating, don’t.

If I can be of any help, please contact me.

Wishing you all good health.

Acute Illnesses and Chronic Conditions – Homeopathy Heals

People say they are sick, with a cold, a flu, asthma, eczema, for example. In this blog post, I want to differentiate between an acute and a chronic illness. Homeopathy is helpful in both of these types of illnesses.

Acute

An acute illness is defined as being one of a sudden onset, lasting for a short period of time. Either the person recovers, or dies. It is a one time occurrence. Some acutes are:

  • Colds
  • Influenzascartoon cold
  • Viruses
  • Infections
  • Childhood diseases

With homeopathic care, these acute illnesses don’t last as long, and symptoms don’t linger. Often, in a flu season, there are several homeopathic remedies that are healing for that particular flu strain that year.  If you are not moving through an acute illness, then homeopathy will be very helpful.

Sometimes an acute illness can develop into a chronic condition, such as with earaches, stomachaches, sore throats, and swollen glands. We hear this a lot with children, having one earache after another. Having earaches has become a chronic condition.

Chronic

Chronic conditions are ongoing health concerns. There are flare ups of the symptoms, and at other times the person may feel well. It is not necessarily life threatening, but it is ongoing. Often, at the onset, it might not have been noticed, but over time, it has gotten progressively worse, lowering the person’s immune system.  The person tends to live with the chronic health concern the best way they can. And perhaps, the person is using medication to help ease or to palliate the symptoms, pains, or discomforts, but the medication is not truly healing the health concern. Some chronic health concerns are:

  • Arthritis
  • Auto immune diseases
  • Asthma
  • Breathing difficulties
  • Coughs
  • Depression, anxiety, panic attacks
  • Insomnia
  • Skin eruptions – eczema, psoriasischronic disease
  • Digestive issues
  • Headaches and migraines
  • Menstrual difficulties
  • Fertility issues
  • Men’s issues
  • Behavioral challenges
  • Fears
  • Chronic earaches, stomachaches, sore throats, swollen glands
  • Just don’t feel well
  • A health concern developed after an accident or injury, such as chronic pain
  • A health concern that developed after an emotional loss or trauma

Homeopathy Heals Acute and Chronic Health Concerns

Homeopathy is wonderful for both acute and chronic health concerns. With each of these health concerns, the homeopath listens, observes, and uncovers, with the aim to understand what this person’s suffering is like. Then a homeopathic remedy is given that is similar to what the person is experiencing in their health concern. The homeopathic remedy stimulates the person’s own healing process, their immune system, and heals at the core of where the symptoms, discomfort and pain stem from.

I would be happy to talk further about how homeopathy can be of help for any acute or chronic health concerns you, or a loved one may be experiencing. I see people of all ages. Homeopathy Can Ease the Blues and Stresses of the Holiday Season

It is a start of another holiday season. People are busy spending time with their family and friends, shopping, cooking, decorating, partying, attending their house of worship, and having a good time. There are all sorts of celebrations going on. It is a joyous time of the year, but it also can be a stressful time for some people. Some people may feel very isolated, alone, sad, anxious or depressed. We all have expectations on how we may want our holiday to be, and sometimes the holiday doesn’t turn out the way we would like it to be.

During these times, because people are feeling stressed, a person’s particular health concern may flare up. Some of these health concerns could be: insomnia and other sleep issues; digestive issues; women’s issues; men’s issues: anxiety; headaches; exasperation of skin eruptions such as eczema, acne, rashes, and psoriasis; depression; deep sadness; influenza; sore throats and colds; asthma and breathing difficulties; painful joints; anger; and fears.

holidays

This may be a good time to go see a homeopath. Homeopathy can help to ease the physical, emotional, and mental “blues” that the person is experiencing. Homeopathy is safe, effective and there are no side effects.

As a note about expectations, we often have thoughts or images of what we would like to happen in our life, regarding ourselves, our family, our relationships, our work, our hobbies, and the world.  A suggestion, in addition to seeing a homeopath, is acceptance: to be accepting of one’s life, of one’s self, and the people in one’s life.  Acceptance may help to ease those expectations we have, maybe just a little bit, and with that, there may be an easing of feelings of stress. We may feel a little lighter, and be able to enjoy and appreciate what we do have.

Wishing you all a happy and healthy holiday season.
