When A Child Runs A Fever

This weekend I was at a friend’s open house, and I was talking to a mom about her 2 year old little girl, Sarah, not her real name. Sarah was getting over being sick.  She had had a fever that ran more at night, than in the daytime. She had the fever for about 2 days, and it was pretty high. Sarah’s mom told me that this was the first time Sarah has been sick, and it was frightening to see her daughter run the fever and not feel well.

I commented to Sarah’s mom, that a fever is a good thing. It is the body’s way of healing. She agreed with me.

This is more of what I told Sarah’s mom:

Children often run higher fevers than adults do. With children, fevers, and other symptoms, come on quickly and suddenly, and seem to be very extreme; and, the fevers go away quickly and suddenly as well. This suddenness and extreme symptoms teddy-242868_960_720are a reflection of a STRONG vital force. It is a good sign. It is showing health. The body is doing what is does so well. The person doesn’t necessarily feel so good, but it is a good sign of health.

In comparison, someone who does not have a strong vital force, such as an older person or someone who has on ongoing chronic condition, may not run a fever at all, run a low fever, or run a fever off and on. And the illness may just drag on.

I added, that it is very common for children to run a fever at night, be fine the next day, playing and being active, and then run the fever again at night. Sarah’s mom said that is what had happened with Sarah, for two days.

I could tell that Sarah’s mom felt better hearing this. She seemed more relaxed, knowing that Sarah is healthy, and her body is  doing what a healthy body does.

Sometimes, a person needs some help in their healing process. Homeopathy can be very helpful when someone is running a fever, has the flu, or has a cold. And if you are concerned when you or a loved one is running a fever, it is always good to check with your physician.

If I can be of any help, please contact me here on this blog, or through my website www.homeopathytoheal.com. I do see patients outside the San Diego area through the use of Skype.

We Each Have Our Own Sensitivity

Sensitivity.

We all have our own sensitivity. Why does something bother one person, but the very same thing doesn’t bother another person?  I often give the example of a skin eruption on someone’s hand. For one person, it bothers them so much to the point that they will seek out any and all kinds of treatment to help. Another person, hardly notices it, or if they do, it doesn’t bother them. They live with it. One person is bothered by it, the other is not. One is sensitive about it, the other is not.

Different Sensitivities

Some sensitivities that people may experience are:                                                                                                                          dandalion

  • to noise, to crowds, to fabrics, to foods, to temperatures, to smells, to certain types of people, to violence, to blood, to over stimulation, to under stimulation, to pain, to pressure, to situations, to traveling, to dirt, to germs, and more.

Parts of the body or the functioning of parts of the body that may be more sensitive in someone are:

  • the stomach – digestive issues, the head – migraines, frequent colds, sore throats, respiratory issues, menstrual issues, hormonal issues – in both women and men, skin eruptions, anxiousness, depression/melancholy, fears and phobias, muscular aches and pains, sleep issues, nightmares, eating issues, and more.

Hearing The Sensitivity – A Case of A Boy

The sensitivity is what I hear when someone comes to see me for homeopathy. I hear what bothers the person. I hear how they experience their sensitivity. I hear how they live with the sensitivity, either compensating, making it go away, accepting it, or avoiding it. I hear how the sensitivity affects their life.

I want to tell you about a boy whose parents brought him in for homeopathic care. He was 20 months old at the time. The boy was experiencing nasal congestion, fevers, and possible ear infections, in which several courses of antibiotics had been given. The antibiotics had helped for four weeks, then the congestion, the fevers, the discomfort in the ear returned. He went through this cycle for several months.

As I spoke to the parents and observed the boy, I saw that he had a sensitivity to noise and sounds. His mother told me that when a sound was loud, or if he heard a far off sound, such as an airplane, actually hearing it before she did, he would run to her. She thought that the sounds were scary or frightening to him. He was not saying how he experienced the sounds through words, but showing through his behaviors, reactions, and responses to the sounds. There was a sensitivity to sound. I wondered if the sounds felt uncomfortable or painful to him in some way. Whatever it was, the sounds and noises were too much for him. I really didn’t know how the sounds specifically affected him, but they bothered him greatly, in some way.

boy with truck 2 cartoonThis sensitivity to sound was also expressed as he played. He would make the sounds of trucks, imitating the noises that trucks make as they move, back up, carry things, and push materials. To me, this also showed how sensitive he was to sound. He heard things well, and could reproduce the sounds that he heard.

He has done well with the homeopathic remedy that was similar to what he was experiencing. He hasn’t needed to have any more antibiotics. He has had a few fevers and nasal congestion, but has been able to move through them without any lingering problems. I would be curious to know how his sensitivity to sound and noises are. I would think that he may have less of a sensitivity to them.

Healing With Homeopathy

The sensitivity to sounds is not why the boy’s parents brought him in for homeopathic care. But this sensitivity was very characteristic of him as an individual person, and very much part of him. Homeopathy looks at, and focuses on the whole person. We all of our own sensitivity, and sensitive areas in our body. This is where we may experience symptoms, discomfort, or flare ups when we are experience situations that are stressful physically, emotionally, mentally or spiritually. With homeopathic care, the sensitivity becomes less and quiets down.

What is your sensitivity? I invite you to contact me either here through the blog or through my website www.homeopathytoheal.com  and set up a Get Acquainted Call. I do work with people who don’t live near me using Skype.

There is a Need for Homeopathy

There is a need for homeopathy. People need homeopathy. Every time someone calls me, for whatever health concern they have, I say to myself after talking with them, there really is a need for homeopathy.

There is a need because people are not feeling better. They may be on medications, which temporarily eases the symptoms, but they are not feeling better. There has been no healing. People are looking for other ways to help in their health care. Looking for a deeper healing, a gentler healing and no side effects. Homeopathy fits that description.

Need for homeopathy in acute conditions

A post on The National Center for Homeopathy’s (NCH) Facebook page writes about the need for homeopathy. Specifically, the topic is how strains of bacterial infections have become resistant to antibiotics due to their over use in medical care and in farm animals.  The post continues to say how homeopathy is very effective in the treatment of bacterial and viral infections, in fact, homeopathy has been effective with these kinds of infections long before antibiotics were developed. Dr. Margaret Chan, the Director-General of the World Health Organization is quoted in the post. She says, ” Things as common as strep throat or a child’s scratched knee could once again kill…”

To read the full post, google “The National Center for Homeopathy July 8”. The NCH’s Facebook page will be the first entry. Click on that and then scroll down to July 8th. (The National Center for Homeopathy is a great resource: for practitioners, for articles and for information.)

Since this post on the NCH Facebook page is on bacterial infections,  I have included a wonderful video on how homeopathy  helped a man who had developed a MRSA infection. The title of the video is “One Story of Homeopathy – healing a Super bug”. It was made by the New York City filmmaker Marc Wishengrad about his own treatment when he contracted the “Super Bug” or MRSA – Methicillin-resistant-Staphylococcus aureus.

Most of the time, the bacterial infection is not as severe as the one that Marc Wishengrad experienced. Homeopathy is very helpful when there are infections and high fevers. About two months ago, I received a phone call from the mother of a patient of mine. She was calling me to say that her 13 year old son was experiencing a very painful sore throat. It had come on very suddenly and he had a fever. She suspected it was strep, and was planning on taking him to the doctor, and perhaps have a throat culture taken.  I suggested using the homeopathic remedy Belladonna.

The picture of Belladonna is a sore throat that comes on suddenly, violently and severely painful. There is a fever, a restlessness, and sometimes hallucinations are experienced. Although the person is burning hot, there is no thirst.  There can be a sensitivity to light, and it is often has right sided symptoms. I told the mom to give him several doses of Belladonna, and to call me the next day. When I spoke to her the fever had broken and his throat was no longer as sore. Belladonna helped a lot. It is understanding what the suffering is of the person, and then selecting a homeopathic remedy similar to that suffering.  This is Like cures Like or the Law of Similars.

The MRSA infection and the sore throat are both examples of acute conditions. Homeopathy is wonderful in the healing of acute conditions.

Need for homeopathy in chronic conditions

Most of the people who call me are calling about chronic conditions.  These can range from skin eruptions, asthma, digestive issues, menstrual problems, urinary tract infections, chronic fatigue, anxiety, depression, obstruction in the nose, constriction feeling in the throat, ongoing gum pain and more. Chronic conditions are ongoing. Sometimes they ease off and the person feels better, but then there is a flare up, again, which often happens when there is more stress in someone’s life. Medication may ease the symptoms, but there is never a healing. Homeopathy is extremely helpful in these kinds of chronic conditions.

So when you or a loved one have a need, whether an infection or an on going condition, it may be time to go to a homeopath for treatment.
