Healing Is A Process

When I talk about homeopathy, I very often use the word “process”, saying, it is a healing process.

I looked up “process” in THE NEW MERRIAM-WEBSTER DICTIONARY. One of the meanings listed there is “a series of actions or operations directed towards a particular result”.

If I relate this meaning of “process” to homeopathy, this may be how the parts of the dictionary meaning could be broken down and then put back together expressing the process of homeopathy:

  • “A series of actions and operations” is twofold. First, it is having appointments where the homeopath learns, witnesses what is bothering the patient and giving the homeopathic remedy or remedies that is similar to this. The second, that there can be a series of homeopathic remedies used. Some synonyms for “series” are succession, progression, a string. Again, I used THE NEW MERRIAM-WEBSTER DICTIONARY to look up the word “series”. Some homeopaths have used the word “ladder”, with each rung or step leading to the next one, and towards healing. A path is a lovely image for this. path-ladder
  • “Directed towards a particular result” means it is going somewhere in particular, which is towards health, a healing, to feel better, to no longer be experiencing the symptoms or the health issue anymore or experiencing it less frequently, a cure.
  • If I put these phrases together, it may come as: It is a process. By having appointments, the homeopath learns and witnesses what is bothering the patient. This information guides the homeopath in choosing the similar homeopathic remedies to the patient that are needed to help the patient heal. More than one homeopathic remedy may be needed over the healing time.

My Experience

Sometimes, in this process, the first homeopathic remedy is all that is needed. Very often though, a series of homeopathic remedies are needed, using one at a time. Each of the homeopathic remedies that are used gives us more information, and leads to the next homeopathic remedy needed. Sometimes, homeopathic remedies may be used concurrently, which means one remedy is given, and then another one is given several days or a week(s) later. No matter how we proceed, it is always looking at the individual, what they need and is fitting for them.

Some patients:

This patient has had two appointments with me. The first homeopathic remedy we used didn’t do much. At the second appointment, the patient talked about the same things he had said before, and said more. This deepened my understanding of him. I gave him a different homeopathic remedy. We will see how he does. It is a process.

Another patient, a woman, has done very well on the first homeopathic remedy we used. Her congestion and itchy rashes are much better, less virulent and uncomfortable, and she has more energy. She has taken this homeopathic remedy several times over the last 4 months, and has been helped by each dose. In addition, to using this remedy, I will be giving her another homeopathic remedy to address a deeper layer of her, and lessen the sensitivity which may lessen the number of flare ups and intensity of them. We may continue with the first homeopathic remedy given when needed.

I had a follow up with the mother of a nine year old boy, who is the patient. He has done well on the homeopathic remedy. We have given a higher potency of this remedy over the last few months. Some things were better, yet didn’t always maintain. He would slide back some, that is when we would give another dose of the remedy. From this last appointment, another homeopathic remedy was clearly showing, which we are going to use. We may go back to the first one if and when needed. Having these follow up appointments help to get a deeper and wider understanding of the patient.

I have many patients that when something comes up and they are not feeling that well, they contact me along with any other health practitioners they use. At these times, they may need another dose of the homeopathic remedy that has helped them, or a different homeopathic remedy may be needed to address what is going on now.

Never Been Well Since

I have written about Never Been Well Since, NBWS, in a previous blogpost. I wanted to write more about it. Never Been Well Since – NBWS – means someone has not been well since a certain happening, illness or event occurred in their life.

When I meet with a patient, and am taking their case, hearing and witnessing them, I will ask when did these symptoms start? When did this start to bother you? What was going on in your life at the time or right before this started? When the patient is a child, I also will ask the mother about her pregnancy, and what was going on before and right around the time she conceived. I will also find out about the father at the time of conception.

NEVER BEEN WELL SINCE – NBWS

These are some of the “sinces”:

  • an emotional loss, of a person, a job, a business, a homedrop of water
  • an emotional experience in which someone felt extreme fear, anger, or any other feeling
  • a traumatic occurrence or situation such as an accident, a fall, being in an earthquake, a hurricane, a war, a rape
  • an abusive situation
  • receiving certain medications, the pill and vaccines
  • having a surgery or other procedure
  • having illness (acute or long term) such as the flu, cancer, mono, coronavirus and others
  • family medical history – tendencies and susceptibilities are passed down from one generation to another

A patient comes in for homeopathic care. Something in particular is bothering them. A homeopathic remedy is given to address this. Sometimes, this is the only homeopathic remedy needed, and sometimes a series is needed, using one at a time, or using  intercurrently with other homeopathic remedies, to help with the healing. A timeline is established of the patient’s life made up of events, losses, illnesses, uses of medications, the patient’s own and their family’s medical history. All of this may show that other homeopathic remedies may be needed. It is getting a deeper and wider view of the patient, and addressing the wholeness of the patient.

HOMEOPATHY TO HEAL

These are some of the health issues that have brought people in for homeopathic care:

  • flare ups of particular symptoms such as a rash, a cough, digestive issues, headaches, menstrual issues, flus
  • lingering emotions such as angry, grief, sadness, fear, guilt, blame, shame
  • an acute situation – UTI, colds, rash, cough, falls, flus
  • fears and anxieties
  • just not feeling well
  • sleep issues
  • painful joints, difficulty moving

I invite you to see how homeopathy could be of help to you or a loved one. I offer a complimentary 15+ minute Get Acquainted Call. I work with people of all ages, babies through adults for many different health issues. I see people in person and virtually, in and out of the San Diego, California area. The Homeopathic Appointment

I receive phone calls, emails, and messages from people asking me if homeopathy can help them or a family member with a particular health issue. They ask, I have this _______ or I experience this symptom _______________. What would you suggest for me?

My answer is: I need to know more. I need to know how it is for you. Someone else may be experiencing the same symptoms or have the same diagnosis, and most likely each of you would need a different homeopathic remedy that fits you. I suggest you come in for an appointment and lets see how it is for you.

What Happens In A Homeopathic Appointment

At the homeopathic appointment, I am:

  • Finding out about how the person experiences what bothers them, (what brought them in for homeopathic care) through listening, observing and witnessing. What makes it better, worse, the location, type of pain, when it started and more.
  • Creating a place and space for someone to talk and to show who they are and what bothers them, through words, gestures, expressions.
  • Hearing about other symptoms – physical, emotional and mental.
  • Asking about dreams, fears, interests. Hearing about their emotional life – relationships, events that happened in their life. How they responded to them.
  • Hearing about theirs and their family’s medical history
  • Following what the person is saying and asking: tell me more, what is the sensation felt in your body, what is the experience of that, how does if feel. I am being where the patient is and following what they are saying.
  • puzzle-colorful piecesPutting all the pieces/parts together, making a whole picture of the person. It is like a jigsaw puzzle, being put together. Or a painting being painted in front of me. I don’t have the complete picture in front of me to know or guide me to what the final picture will be.
  • If the patient is a baby, a young child, or non verbal, I observe them, and the parent or main care giver gives me their observations and knowledge of the person. Homeopathy also is very helpful for animals.
  • Giving a homeopathic remedy that is similar to this totality of the whole picture of the person.

The patient is:

  • Telling, showing and sharing with me what bothers them. How they experience it. Why it is a problem for them.

Always Finding Out About The Person

The length of time I spend with a person during a consultation may vary depending on whether it is a chronic, an acute, or a first aid situation. Always, always, I am finding out about the person. Homeopathy is treating the person, not the name or label of what the person is experiencing. The name and label are part of the totality of the person.

Homeopathy is helpful for chronic, acute and first aid issues.

  • A chronic condition is an ongoing health issue, in which someone experiences flare ups of symptoms periodically. It never quite goes away. A chronic issue is eczema, menstrual difficulties, menopause, digestive issues, asthma, anxiety, auto-immune conditions, depression, allergies, warts, fevers that come and go, headaches, earaches, swollen glands, urinary tract infections, extreme sound sensitivity, stomachaches, fears/phobias, not feeling well and told there is nothing wrong with them, and more.
  • An acute condition is the flu, a cold, an infection, a cough, a stomachache, a fever, a childhood disease. An acute usually does not last long and the person feels better. An acute could also be a flare up or an exasperation of the chronic condition.
  • A first aid situation is a fall, a trauma, an accident, dental work, surgery, a sprain/strain, a burn, cut or wound and insect bites.

For an acute or first aid issue, the appointments are shorter than for a chronic issue. The appointments may not go into as much detail as for a chronic health issue.

Some of my patients who have seen me for a chronic health issue, will contact me if they are experiencing an acute issue or a first aid issue. Homeopathy has become part of their health care.

I would be happy to talk with you, and to find out what is bothering you.

Listening – To Yourself

Part of this blog is from a post I wrote several years ago. I wanted to share it again. I have been hearing a lot about listening to ourselves, especially during the times we are going through.

Listening, observing, witnessing, finding out how the person experiences what bothers them is what I do as a homeopath. I think I am a good listener, to others, but maybe not so good at listening to myself, hearing myself.

Are We Listening To Ourselves?

For me, sometimes, I am easily swayed or influenced by what other people say to me, or are doing. I need time afterwards to sift through, and process the information and energy of others. As a society, we are bombarded by all sorts of information, almost instantaneously and continually. From that we often think we need to be doing this or that, feeling this or that, comparing ourselves to others, and ultimately not being in tune with ourselves. We may not be listening to our own needs and wants, and who we are as an individual person.

Listening is not just with our ears. It is what we sense about ourselves and around us, and how we feel, inside. Our gut feeling.

Our bodies can tell us a lot of how we are reacting to a situation. Our thoughts tell us too. These reactions, responses and thoughts are often autonomic. We go to them immediately. Physically, we may get sick, which is a way of telling ourselves to slow down, to pause, to rest and to listen. Our head hurts. Our stomach grumbles and hurts. Our digestion may be off. A rash breaks out. We breath shallowly, maybe panting. Our heart beats faster. Our hands get sweaty. come down with a cold. We are not sleeping well. Emotionally, we may feel angry, fearful, shamed, irritated, annoyed, impatient, bored, unsettled or hurt. Mentally, we may have persistent thoughts that could be negative, almost looping around and around and around.

woman on phone

I sometimes think we may need to call ourselves on the phone, so we will actually listen to ourselves.

“Hey, Pam, I want to tell you this….”

Listening To Ourselves

  • What am I feeling?
  • This doesn’t feel right to do or feels right to do – about a relationship, a job, an opportunity, an event.
  • Don’t know what to do further in this creative work, will wait. Now I know what to do! Took the time to listen.
  • This person is doing this activity or has this belief. Is this something I want to do or believe in? Shall I go along with this person or not?
  • Following a dream, a passion, a trip that you have always wanted to take.
  • Should I? Shouldn’t I? (Shoulds are usually something to avoid.)
  • My body is not feeling right. What is my body telling me?
  • Time to rest, even if others are continuing.
  • Am I reacting?
  • The group is doing this, it doesn’t feel right to me.
  • Even if this person is an expert, I will get another expert’s opinion.
  • I am going to be quiet for awhile, so I can hear my voice, listening to what I am saying.
  • Am I speaking my voice with other people?
  • Am I speaking and hearing my own voice?
  • What does my voice sound like?

Listening To Me

I do artwork. I have done artwork off and on for most of my life. When I talk about the process of doing art work, I say that I listen to the piece that I am working on, almost as if the piece is telling me what to do next, what color to use, what line to draw and more. When I think (I am pointing to my head) of what to do, it doesn’t work. When I let the art work tell me, it works. It is a feeling or sense to do this ________. Is this the art telling, or me telling me? Whatever it is, it is listening to that.

Homeopathy To Heal

When I work with a patient, I am witnessing what is bothering them. I often say, that the patient and I are witnessing them together. Witnessing is listening. I am listening to the patient. And the patient is listening to themselves.

Giving Space

This past week I was reminded about how space is given in the appointment when I see a patient.  Space to talk, to show, to express what is bothering them. Nothing had changed in this particular appointment on how I meet with a patient. I was just reminded of it. I felt and feel a deep respect and wonderment on how homeopathy can give the kind of space that a person needs.

My job is to witness what is bothering the patient. I have learned over the years to meet the patient where they are. To be flexible. Where they are now is where we start in the healing process, giving the homeopathic remedy that is similar to them at this time.

How Some Patients Are

Some patients are very factual in their telling of what is bothering them, relating numbers of tests, or not elaborating on how they experience their symptoms. This may be what they are used to when going to a health practitioner. Many times it is a physical symptom or a specific name/label/diagnosis that has brought them in for homeopathic care.

In addition to telling me about their physical symptoms, some patients talk about their emotional state. hands - sculpted Often sharing a story, a situation, or a relationship that they are in now or were in the past, and how they feel about it. How it affects or affected them.

Some patients may not say so much about their physical symptoms. They talk more about the world they life in, their reality, feeling that something is not quite right about it. Often they will say, “This doesn’t make sense”, or “I don’t know what I am saying”, and continue to talk. This is what happened this past week with a patient. I have had people say “I sound crazy” or “This is crazy what I am saying”.

If the person is non verbal, such as a baby, they are expressing themselves in other ways than in words. Wherever the persons speaks from and however they speak.

*******

I want to mention again how homeopathy can be helpful when someone has coronavirus; for someone who has had the virus and is continuing to not feel well; and someone who may have had a reaction to the vaccine.

*******

I work with people of all ages who have a persistent and ongoing health issue and are not feeling as good as they know they could. Despite doing different healing treatments, they feel their health issue has not been resolved and have no clue on how to do so. We work together to get to the root cause of their health issue, and heal there.

I invite you to contact me here on this blog or through my website www.homeopathytoheal.com. I have a complimentary 15+ minute Get Acquainted Call. I work with people both virtually and in person in and out of the San Diego area.

“Long Haul” Cases

I was listening to an interview on an NPR program. The program was talking about long haul cases after someone has had the coronavirus (COVID- 19).  In this program it was mentioned that after people had the coronavirus, people are experiencing lingering symptoms that are affecting their every day life and work. They are having difficulty in getting disability or insurance coverage. Medical tests are being given by doctors, showing that there are no medical problems. Some doctors are saying that these health issues may all be in someone’s head, psychosomatic. This is similar to what is often said about someone who has chronic fatigue syndrome. In a way, it is a dismissal of what people are experiencing. The long haul symptoms are becoming chronic health issues.

I have written in past blog posts how homeopathy is helpful for people who have the coronavirus, had the virus, and have or had a reaction to the vaccine. Over these last two years, I have attended many webinars on how homeopathy is helpful for these situations. One of the homeopaths who gives these webinars is Jeremy Sherr. In his last webinar, he was saying that this virus, the Omicron, jumps all over the place and comes back. He has seen, and I have also seen in myorange-2912863_960_720 practice, that several homeopathic remedies are needed over the course of when someone is ill. This is generally the case with acute illnesses, like a virus. He also said, that it is important to address the person when they are sick, with homeopathy, helping to prevent the possibility of a long haul case developing, which can become a chronic health issue.

A CASE

This is a woman, who when she first became ill, started with a very high fever, about 100F to 101F, which ran for about 5 days. The first day she had a severe headache. She said it hurt all over her head and lying down to sleep did not help. After the 5th day, the fever lowered to about 99F, running off and on for several days. Her normal is about 96.7F.  She had a dry cough, in her throat. Nothing was in her chest. At night, her mouth was very dry. She drank a lot of water at night helping with the dry mouth. Sleep was not necessarily good; it was the sick sleep. She had different dreams. One dream was very unusual for her. She had it twice in one night. This dream lead to a choice of a homeopathic remedy for her. She was tired and napped. Her appetite was less, and food didn’t taste good. About 10 – 14 days, the fever stopped. She started to feel very weak. having no stamina she said. Doing any household task was – how am I going to do this? Not having the stamina was the hardest and actually the scariest part of being sick. Am I going to get better? she thought.

We used different homeopathic remedies over this period of time, as the symptoms changed and moved. There wasn’t necessarily one homeopathic remedy that I would say addressed her the whole time. I think though that they helped to move to case. The fever lessened and went away. The dry mouth subsided. She started to get her strength and stamina back, taking things slowly as she went back to work and doing her daily activities. There were no lingering symptoms. This didn’t turn into a long haul case.  She also took supplements during this time.

HOMEOPATHY TO HEAL

I like to give people hope in regards to their health care. Homeopathy can be helpful when someone is sick with an acute illness. One or several homeopathic remedies may be needed when someone is sick. These remedies assist the body in its innate healing ability, helping to move the person through the illness so they are no longer stuck. The long haul cases are stuck. Homeopathy helps to prevent long haul cases or a chronic health issue to not develop after having the coronavirus.

I invite you to see how homeopathy could be of help to you or a loved one who is experiencing long haul symptoms, the virus, side effects, or any other health issue. It is never too late to use homeopathy. You can contact me here or through my website www.homeopathytoheal.com.  I work with people in person and virtually.

It Is Always Individual

Homeopathy is not a one size fits all form of medicine.

In homeopathy, it is always finding out about the person, and giving the homeopathic remedy that is similar to what they are experiencing, that fits them at this time. My job is to find out about each person, about how THEY experience what bother them, not just going by the name, label, or diagnosis of what they “have”.

It is always individual.

Two people who come to see me may have the same “name” of their health issue. Each of these two people nature-2713472_1280will most likely need a different homeopathic remedy, one that is similar to  them. Yes, they have the same “name” of a health issue, and may experience some of the same symptoms, yet hearing more about how each person experiences what bothers them, shows how different each of them are, thus leading to what homeopathic remedy is similar to them. It is always individual.

That is it always individual applies to whatever brings someone in for homeopathic care. A person may be experiencing behavioral issues, ear infections, sound sensitivities, other types of sensitivities, digestive issues, menstrual issues, allergies, skin eruptions, headaches, flus, the coronavirus, reactions to vaccines, first aid, traumas, anything that bothers a person.

At the start of the initial appointment, I always ask, what is bothering you? We go from there, putting together the pieces that make up this person. Doing it together. Seeing a totality. Giving the homeopathic remedy that is similar to the totality. (The main principle of homeopathy is Like Cures Like or the Law of Similars.) The homeopathic remedy stimulates the person’s own healing.

If there is something that is bothering you or a loved one, I invite you to contact me. I offer a complimentary Get Acquainted Call. I see people of all ages, babies through older adults. I work both in  person and virtually. Contact me here on this blog or through my website www.homeopathytoheal.com.

A Question I was Asked: Are People Who Come For Homeopathy Feeling Desperate?

Last week, I was asked if many of the people I see for homeopathy are desperate?

I answered yes. I then said that I see people who are not desperate too, maybe when they first came to me, they were.

Many people who do contact me have a health issue that has been bothering them for awhile. They have tried other healing modalities, including western medicine and may be using medications. (Homeopathy can be used along side western medicine.) The person is not feeling better. The time frame for them of experiencing their health issue may be for several years, several months, and even just a few months and they are feeling that they are getting worse.

Maybe these people who call me are desperate. They are not feeling better, that is for sure. They don’t necessarily want to take certain medications, indefinitely. They may be feeling discouraged because they are not finding the help they need.

My answer of yes, I do see people who are not desperate: As I mentioned above, very often people start seeing me for homeopathy because of a chronic and ongoing health issue. They may have been desperate then. That health issue has eased and they are feeling better. If something comes up, like a flu, a cold, an injury, a skin eruption or another health issue, they come to see me along with seeing their physician, acupuncturist, chiropractor, herbal medicine practitioner. Homeopathy has become part of their healing resources. I love that. This is often reflected in my work with families, in which I see several candle-179298_960_720members of a family when different health issues come up.

One definition of desperate in The New Merriam-Webster Dictionary is “being beyond or almost beyond hope”.  I feel that homeopathy can very often help someone and help with their healing. I am hopeful. This is why I say there is such a need for homeopathy.

These are some of the “desperate” issues people have called me about over the last 6 months: over sensitivity to sounds/noises, warts, hormonal imbalances, a benign growth that is getting bigger, heart issues (may or may not be taking medications), hemorrhoids, menstrual issues, recovering from a virus (including the coronavirus), digestive issues, fatigue, insomnia, grief, eczema, a reaction to a vaccine, aches and pains, car sickness. Some people made an appointment and some people did not.

I offer a complimentary 15 + minute Get Acquainted Call. This gives the prospective patient an opportunity to tell me a little bit about what is bothering them, and for me to tell them a little bit about homeopathy. To me this is actually the start of the appointment. I always say in making your choice do what feels right to you.

If you or a loved one have a health issue that doesn’t seem to be resolving, I invite you to contact me and let’s do a Get Acquainted Call. I see babies through older adults, for all sorts of health issues. Some people come in with a name, label or diagnosis of what is bothering them. Some people say this _________ is what is bothering me. I work with people virtually and in person. I see people in and out of the San Diego area. Wanting To Be Heard

Wanting to be heard.

I am always reminded of this. With my patients. With my interactions with people. With myself.

We want to be heard. Sometimes we want to be agreed with, to be acknowledged, to be validated, to say out loud what is going around in our heads. to share, to just say.

When I said this to a friend, that I want to be heard, she said we want to be loved. hearts transparent

And we want a safe place to be heard.

When I meet with a patient, finding out what is bothering them, taking their case, many people talk. They usually talk about a lot of things, in addition to what brought them in to homeopathy.

Wanting to be heard:

  • A patient’s mother said to me that this is the first time someone agreed with her that there is a connection between the brain/mind/head and the gut. Her son was my patient.
  • Another patient said, this is the first time a health practitioner has really listened to what I am experiencing with my health.
  • Another asked me how do you feel about this? I answered, you are taking care of your health, and doing what you feel is right for you. I think what the person was really wanting was to open a conversation about something that was bothering them, which was how their family felt about their choices about health, not that she necessarily wanted my opinion.
  • A patient told me when she said to her husband go see Pam, it was not just for his health concern, but for someone to listen to him.
  • A man was telling me about a painful event in his life. He was filled with so many emotions, expressed on his face, through his gestures, and his words.
  • Many times a patient is given a name or a diagnosis to what they are experiencing. They have used different healing modalities, yet are not feeling better. In the homeopathic process, THEIR particular symptoms are heard, along with the general symptoms of the name/diagnosis. I would like to say that they are being heard, not the name/diagnosis.

At the beginning of the appointment, I always ask first, why are you here? What is bothering you? Often, the name or the diagnosis is stated, then the symptoms, and then more about how they experiencing this health issue. These are some of the health issues (the name or diagnosis) that have brought people in for homeopathy: warts, eczema, depression, grief, anxiety, stomachaches, nausea, hormonal issues, menstrual issues, painful to hear sounds of any kind, shingles, fatigue, sinus pressure, coughs, and flus.

I invite you to contact me about a health issue you or a loved one may be experiencing, to see if homeopathy is a healing modality you would like to pursue. You can contact me here on this blog or through my website www.homeopathytoheal.com. I offer a complimentary Get Acquainted Call.

I Have This _____? Can Homeopathy Help Me?

Recently, I was asked if homeopathy could help with plantar fasciitis. She said since she hadn’t read about it on my website, she wondered if homeopathy could help.

I said yes.

I was very glad she had asked about this. I thought perhaps other people may have had the same thought that homeopathy could not help them if they hadn’t read anything written about it in my information, website, blog, and newsletter. Since not seeing the name of it, they may have thought that homeopathy could not help them.

We often need to read specifically what we “have” written about, or to hear a story of someone like us using a particular healing modality before we may consider it. For example to know if homeopathy has helped someone with plantar fasciitis, then someone may look into homeopathy.

Homeopathy focuses on how the individual experiences what is bothering them. When a homeopath meets with a puzzle-14451_960_720person the general and usual symptoms of what is bothering is heard, such as with plantar fasciitis, AND, other symptoms of the individual are heard too. These symptoms can be about their emotional state, other physical symptoms they experience, mental functioning, sleep, dreams, fears and more. All of this, these pieces, are taken together to make up the totality of the person. The totality is what is focused on to heal. The plantar fasciitis is one of the pieces, or several of them.

The given homeopathic remedy is similar to this totality. The main principle of homeopathy is LIKE CURES LIKE, or The Law of Similars. The homeopathic remedy that is given is for the totality of the person, including the plantar fasciitis. This could be said for any “this is what I have”, name of a disease or syndrome that someone is experiencing, autoimmune diseases included. The “have” is a piece of the total picture.

I find that a lot of people have been give a name to what is bothering them. They may be having treatment for it, but are not feeling better. At this point, they may be looking for other healing modalities. That is why they ask me, “I have this __________________,  can homeopathy help me?”

If there is a health issue you or a loved one are experiencing and you haven’t seen anything written about it in my information, I invite you to contact me. Let’s talk. I offer a complimentary Get Acquainted Call or Zoom meeting to see if homeopathy is something you would want to pursue. I see people local to and outside of the San Diego area, and people of all ages, babies to older adults. You can contact me here, or on my website www.homeopathytoheal.com.
