Taking Everything Into Consideration – Seeing The Totality Of The Person

Many people come in for homeopathic care for a chronic health issue, that they may have been experiencing for awhile. When I meet with a patient I am finding out how they experience what is bothering them.

Sometimes, this may take several appointments. Each appointment gives more information towards getting the totality picture of the person. To have as complete a picture of the person, helps to come to the homeopathic remedy that is most similar to the patient.

Taking Everything Into Consideration

All of what I have listed here, and maybe more, makes up the totality of the person.

  • What is bothering them? Why have they come for homeopathic care?
  • How do they experience what bothers them? Pain, discomfort, side of body, what makes it worse or better, other symptoms with it. The sensation of what bothers them. Why is this a problem?
  • When did it start? What was going in their life when it started? A trauma, a loss of job, loss of a relationship or loved one, a physical move, diet change, medications taken, a particular medical condition?
  • An unusual symptom or how someone experiences a symptoms uniquely to them. It is called strange, rare and peculiar (SRP)
  • Emotional  state
  • Mental state                                                         spiral-2368124__340
  • Dreams
  • Fears
  • Childhood – events, illnesses
  • Trauma – illnesses, loss of loved one, loss of home, accident, loss of job, accident, natural disasters
  • Interests
  • Medical history
  • Family medical history –  susceptibility to health concerns are passed down from one generation to another. Susceptibility means a tendency to experience/develop certain symptoms or illnesses.
  • Medications taken over lifetime, especially if they were ongoing. The person may have noticed changes/symptoms when starting the medications, or later on. Medications like: antibiotics, vaccines, for fertility treatments, birth control pills.
  • Use of a substance for a long period of time, which has been toxic, such as chewing tobacco, smoking, drinking alcohol, and use of cell phone, especially with children. Symptoms or ill health developed after this. I have read cases about symptoms and ill health developing with overuse of what I have listed here.

Seeing The Totality Of The Person

It is seeing the totality. Finding out as much as possible about the patient. Seeing what may have brought them to this state of ill health. With this understanding and knowledge of their totality, a homeopathic remedy is given. As the healing process moves forward, this first homeopathic remedy may be repeated, a higher potency/strength of the remedy may be given, or another homeopathic remedy will be given. It is a process. Each homeopathic remedy helps us to move forward to the next, and is chosen based on the similarity to what the person is experiencing at that time. The Law of Similars or Like Cures Like is the main principle of homeopathy. The given homeopathic remedies stimulate the person’s own healing abilities, bringing the person back to a more healthful state of being.

Homeopathy To Heal

These are some of the recent health issues people have called me about, and have come in for homeopathic care. Many of these people have also reached out to their physician.

  • skin eruptions – warts, eczema, rashes
  • swollen lymph nodes
  • vertigo
  • migraines/headaches
  • fears/phobias
  • anxiety/depression
  • digestive issues
  • menstrual issues
  • extreme sensitivity to sound and noise
  • reactions to vaccines
  • traumas – physical, emotional, mental
  • eye discomfort and infection
  • pressure in the head
  • not feeling right

Listening – To Yourself

Part of this blog is from a post I wrote several years ago. I wanted to share it again. I have been hearing a lot about listening to ourselves, especially during the times we are going through.

Listening, observing, witnessing, finding out how the person experiences what bothers them is what I do as a homeopath. I think I am a good listener, to others, but maybe not so good at listening to myself, hearing myself.

Are We Listening To Ourselves?

For me, sometimes, I am easily swayed or influenced by what other people say to me, or are doing. I need time afterwards to sift through, and process the information and energy of others. As a society, we are bombarded by all sorts of information, almost instantaneously and continually. From that we often think we need to be doing this or that, feeling this or that, comparing ourselves to others, and ultimately not being in tune with ourselves. We may not be listening to our own needs and wants, and who we are as an individual person.

Listening is not just with our ears. It is what we sense about ourselves and around us, and how we feel, inside. Our gut feeling.

Our bodies can tell us a lot of how we are reacting to a situation. Our thoughts tell us too. These reactions, responses and thoughts are often autonomic. We go to them immediately. Physically, we may get sick, which is a way of telling ourselves to slow down, to pause, to rest and to listen. Our head hurts. Our stomach grumbles and hurts. Our digestion may be off. A rash breaks out. We breath shallowly, maybe panting. Our heart beats faster. Our hands get sweaty. come down with a cold. We are not sleeping well. Emotionally, we may feel angry, fearful, shamed, irritated, annoyed, impatient, bored, unsettled or hurt. Mentally, we may have persistent thoughts that could be negative, almost looping around and around and around.

woman on phone

I sometimes think we may need to call ourselves on the phone, so we will actually listen to ourselves.

“Hey, Pam, I want to tell you this….”

Listening To Ourselves

  • What am I feeling?
  • This doesn’t feel right to do or feels right to do – about a relationship, a job, an opportunity, an event.
  • Don’t know what to do further in this creative work, will wait. Now I know what to do! Took the time to listen.
  • This person is doing this activity or has this belief. Is this something I want to do or believe in? Shall I go along with this person or not?
  • Following a dream, a passion, a trip that you have always wanted to take.
  • Should I? Shouldn’t I? (Shoulds are usually something to avoid.)
  • My body is not feeling right. What is my body telling me?
  • Time to rest, even if others are continuing.
  • Am I reacting?
  • The group is doing this, it doesn’t feel right to me.
  • Even if this person is an expert, I will get another expert’s opinion.
  • I am going to be quiet for awhile, so I can hear my voice, listening to what I am saying.
  • Am I speaking my voice with other people?
  • Am I speaking and hearing my own voice?
  • What does my voice sound like?

Listening To Me

I do artwork. I have done artwork off and on for most of my life. When I talk about the process of doing art work, I say that I listen to the piece that I am working on, almost as if the piece is telling me what to do next, what color to use, what line to draw and more. When I think (I am pointing to my head) of what to do, it doesn’t work. When I let the art work tell me, it works. It is a feeling or sense to do this ________. Is this the art telling, or me telling me? Whatever it is, it is listening to that.

Below is a video of a conversation between Oprah Winfrey and Iyanla Vanzant from the program SuperSoul Sunday. They talked about pausing, staying present, and using your own spiritual GPS, instead of doing what we always do. The video is about 1:36 minutes long. Enjoy.

Everything Is Connected

Most of the time, a person comes for homeopathic care because of a physical issue that is bothering them. As I listen and witness what they are saying and showing me, the person will often talk about a situation, an event, and/or a relationship that is happening in their life at this present time or in the past. Their feelings about this situation are expressed, along with how it is affecting them. For me as a homeopath, this emotional component can be a big part of understanding the person’s case, their totality at this time, and helps lead to the homeopathic remedy that is helpful for them.

A Patient

I have seen this women for many years for various health issues. Many times with her, the emotions are a big part of her case, and have helped guide me to the homeopathic remedy that is needed at the time.

This time she came in to see me because she was experiencing sore gums. She had the area checked by her dentist. No cavity nor decay was seen, but the dentist did say that the area looked traumatized. My patient had no memory of injuring the area. She said the gums felt sore both when they were touched, and not touched. They didn’t hurt when she ate. She also started talking about her relationship with her daughter. Lately, it has been difficult. She felt hurt and left out of her daughter’s life. She thought that perhaps her daughter was not telling her the truth at times, lying to her. The gums bothered this woman. The interaction she was having with her daughter also bothered her, maybe even more.

All of this information made up her case, her totality at this time. I could have given something along the lines of first aid, but there seemed to be more involved in the case than an injury. Actually, there was an injury, an injury to her relationship with her daughter. After taking the homeopathic remedy that was similar to what she was experiencing, the soreness of the gums subsided. She slept better. And she spent a day with her daughter, helping her organize her apartment. She was feeling better.

Another Patient

A woman came to see me telling me her left arm was hurting her, actually to the point that she couldn’t put on her bra. At night she was unable to get into a comfortable position to sleep. She didn’t think she had hurt her arm nor sprained it in anyway. She told me that someone had suggested to her about getting a massage. At that time, she immediately, without even a pause to think, said I don’t want anyone touching my arm. She would touch it and massage it herself, she said, but she didn’t want anyone to touch it. As she was telling me all this, she remembered that she had several dreams lately in which she felt threatened and unsafe, as if she could be hurt physically. These were unusual dreams for her. I suggested a homeopathic remedy. The pain subsided. She was able to sleep, and to hook up her bra.

Everything Is Connected

Everything is connected in our bodies, in our being. Sometimes, when emotions cannot be expressed, they show up in the body as a symptom. Someone may say so directly and see the connection themselves. With others, it just comes out as they are talking. Some of the connections I have heard and witnessed:

  • When I am upset, I can’t eat, or I have diarrhea.
  • When I get so stressed and overwhelmed, I get this horrible migraine headache.
  • When I feel betrayed or let down, I get these stomach cramps.
  • When I have intercourse with my husband, I develop an urinary tract infection afterwards, or have pains in my uterus.
  • I feel so anxious and stressed when I am around this person (blank). I feel as though all my energy has been sucked out of me.
  • After I experienced that traumatic event, I developed bodily pains and I was tired all the time. I was diagnosed with chronic fatigue syndrome.
  • I feel so tired. I find that I am not being supported in my work situation.

Therapy and forms of counseling can be very helpful for someone who is going through an emotionally difficult time. It is always good to have someone to talk to, who is a witness and supportive of you. Homeopathy and therapy can work very well together.

*******

For some people I work with, homeopathy has become part of their health care. If something comes up regarding their health, whether an acute or a chronic issue, they will come see their homeopath, along with seeing their doctor, chiropractor, acupuncturist or therapist. These two women above are like that.

I invite you to contact me if you or a loved one have a health issue that has not been resolved, an acute or chronic. You can contact me here or through my website www.homeopathytoheal.com. I offer a complimentary 15+ minute Get Acquainted Call. I see people both in person and virtually, in and out of the San Diego area.

*******

I work with people of all ages who have a persistent, ongoing health issue and are not feeling as good as they know they could. Despite doing different healing treatments, they feel their health issue has not be resolved and have no clue on how to do so. We work together to get to the root cause of their health issue, and heal there, using the holistic form of medicine homeopathy.

A Question I was Asked: Are People Who Come For Homeopathy Feeling Desperate?

Last week, I was asked if many of the people I see for homeopathy are desperate?

I answered yes. I then said that I see people who are not desperate too, maybe when they first came to me, they were.

Many people who do contact me have a health issue that has been bothering them for awhile. They have tried other healing modalities, including western medicine and may be using medications. (Homeopathy can be used along side western medicine.) The person is not feeling better. The time frame for them of experiencing their health issue may be for several years, several months, and even just a few months and they are feeling that they are getting worse.

Maybe these people who call me are desperate. They are not feeling better, that is for sure. They don’t necessarily want to take certain medications, indefinitely. They may be feeling discouraged because they are not finding the help they need.

My answer of yes, I do see people who are not desperate: As I mentioned above, very often people start seeing me for homeopathy because of a chronic and ongoing health issue. They may have been desperate then. That health issue has eased and they are feeling better. If something comes up, like a flu, a cold, an injury, a skin eruption or another health issue, they come to see me along with seeing their physician, acupuncturist, chiropractor, herbal medicine practitioner. Homeopathy has become part of their healing resources. I love that. This is often reflected in my work with families, in which I see several candle-179298_960_720members of a family when different health issues come up.

One definition of desperate in The New Merriam-Webster Dictionary is “being beyond or almost beyond hope”.  I feel that homeopathy can very often help someone and help with their healing. I am hopeful. This is why I say there is such a need for homeopathy.

These are some of the “desperate” issues people have called me about over the last 6 months: over sensitivity to sounds/noises, warts, hormonal imbalances, a benign growth that is getting bigger, heart issues (may or may not be taking medications), hemorrhoids, menstrual issues, recovering from a virus (including the coronavirus), digestive issues, fatigue, insomnia, grief, eczema, a reaction to a vaccine, aches and pains, car sickness. Some people made an appointment and some people did not.

I offer a complimentary 15 + minute Get Acquainted Call. This gives the prospective patient an opportunity to tell me a little bit about what is bothering them, and for me to tell them a little bit about homeopathy. To me this is actually the start of the appointment. I always say in making your choice do what feels right to you.

If you or a loved one have a health issue that doesn’t seem to be resolving, I invite you to contact me and let’s do a Get Acquainted Call. I see babies through older adults, for all sorts of health issues. Some people come in with a name, label or diagnosis of what is bothering them. Some people say this _________ is what is bothering me. I work with people virtually and in person. I see people in and out of the San Diego area. I Feel Grateful – More People Are Coming To Homeopathy

My homeopathic practice has gotten busier. I like that for me. I like that for you, my patients, and for future patients. And I like that for homeopathy.

I have always said, thought and written that there is a need for homeopathy. I think people are starting to see that homeopathy can fill a need they have. They are seeing that homeopathy can be helpful for them. Or at least starting to be more curious about it.heart in sand

I feel very grateful that people are coming. I feel grateful that they are seeing the value of homeopathy, and they are valuing themselves.

A person may be experiencing some health issue that has been bothering them for awhile. They may have used different healing modalities to help, but continue not to feel well. They want to feel better. At this time they are more open to other options for their health care.

In my homeopathic practice, I see babies through older adults for a wide range of health issues  – anxiety, skin eruptions, women’s issues, digestive issues, headaches, pain, sleeping difficulties, fears, nervousness, colds, flus, injuries and more.

Homeopathy looks at the individual and the totality of the person. It is how the person experiences what bothers them, not the name of the syndrome or disease. A homeopathic remedy is given that is similar to what the person is experiencing, stimulating their innate healing ability.

I offer a complimentary 15 minute Get Acquainted Call.  You can contact me here on this blog post or through my website www.homeopathytoheal.com.

My Niche As A Homeopath

A lot of times, I am asked what is my niche? Who do I see? What kinds of health concerns do I see in my homeopathic practice? Do I have a specialty area? Do I see people who have  _______________?

My Answer

I don’t see any particular health concern. I see mostly children and women, for all sorts of health concerns, but not a particular area, such as women’s issues. (And then I think to myself, maybe I should have a niche, a specialty area.)

The people that do come for homeopathy are usually ones who may have an ongoing chronic condition. They are better, from taking some form of medication or receiving healing treatments, but then they are not feeling well, again. They experience a flare up of their health concern, such as another ear infection, another skin eruption, another digestion upset, or another migraine headache.

For example, a 2 year old boy I saw several years ago was having recurring ear infections and nasal congestion over a period of 6 months. (That is a quarter of his life!) He was proscribed antibiotics. He would be better for 4 weeks or so after the course of the antibiotics, and then the ear infection and nasal congestion would return. This happened several times. After one dose of the given homeopathic remedy, he did not have any more ear infections. He did very well.

My Niche

If I listen to the answer I give to people when asked what my niche is, I am actually telling them my niche. I didn’t realize that. So, here is my niche:

  • People who want to be better, who want to feel well. niche
  • People who have an ongoing, chronic health concern. A chronic health concern means, that they feel better and then feel worse again. They experience periodic flareups.
  • People who live with the health concern, managing and living with it, in any way they can.
  • People who have used other healing modalities, that have helped by giving them some relief, but there has not been a healing at the root cause of what is bothering them.
  • People who are open to doing another form of healing.
  • People who are open and interested in homeopathy.

This is my niche.

And these are the kinds of people who I mostly see in my homeopathic practice.

Homeopathy Is A Wonderful Healing Modality – And You

I want to talk to you about homeopathy, and you.

Homeopathy is a wonderful healing modality. It is helpful for so many health concerns people experience today, from first aid, like burns, sprains, falls and dental procedures; to acute concerns like colds/flus, coughs, sore throats and impacted teeth; to chronic/ongoing conditions like gull in flightdigestive issues, headaches, swollen glands and a cancer diagnosis. For a child who is having difficulty concentrating or is on the autism spectrum, to an older person who has had a heart attack. I can list and list health concerns of which homeopathy would be helpful, and for all ages.

And homeopathy is also helpful for other living beings in addition to human beings, such as your dog, cat or horse.

You Know…

I believe that you know:

What you want.

To be pain free, to have more energy, to have better digestion, to  focus better, to have easier periods, for your child to have a conversation with you.

What is bothering you.

Pain, anxiety, fatigue, emotional feelings, a skin eruption.

What is preventing you from being better.

A mindset, a trauma or physical ailment that you really have not healed from yet, an ongoing stress situation, an exposure to environmental toxins.

And, what you are looking for in terms of helping yourself in your health.

To feel better using more natural forms of healing that really promote a healing, and not a palliation, by accessing the body’s wonderful healing ability.

Homeopathy

You may be wanting to know specifically what homeopathy can do to help you in your health, to help you in what you do know about yourself.  I may have addressed that in previous posts, if I haven’t, I invite you to contact me and let’s see about you.

I can be contacted through this blog post or through my website www.homeopathytoheal.com.

Finding Out About The Person – The Homeopathic Consultation (Part 1)

I receive phone calls, emails, and messages from people asking me if homeopathy could help their particular health concern. Very often, I am asked, I have this _______ or I experience this symptom, what would you suggest for me?

I don’t know. And I say that. I say I don’t know. Then I say, I need to find out how this is for you. I need to know more. I suggest you come in for an appointment and lets see what is going on with you.

What Happens In A Homeopathic Consultation

When I meet someone for a homeopathic consultation, this is what is happening. I am:

  • Listening. Observing. Witnessing. So I can understand what the person is experiencing. Finding out what is bothering them, and how they experience it. What this is like for them.
  • Creating a place and space for someone to talk and to show who they are and what bothers them.
  • Listening to the spoken and the unspoken words. I often say, I am listening through.sculpture-2275202_1280
  • Watching, seeing, hearing, the hand gestures, body movements, facial expressions, sounds the person makes, and the words and language the person uses to express themselves.
  • Specifically, finding out about a symptom – what makes it better, worse, location, how experienced, when it first started, how it feels, other symptoms with it, how is it to have the symptom.
  • Putting all the pieces/parts together, making a whole picture of the person. Like a jigsaw puzzle, being put together. Or a painting being painted in front of me. But I don’t have the complete picture in front of me to know what the final outcome will be.
  • Learning the person’s world and their language. How they view their world. How they experience their world.
  • Giving a homeopathic remedy that is similar to this whole picture of the person.

Always Finding Out About The Person

What I describe here, is what I do whether the person has:

  • a chronic condition – ongoing, experiencing flare ups of symptoms periodically, never quite going away, such as eczema, menstrual difficulty, digestive issues, asthma, anxiety, auto-immune conditions and more.
  • an acute condition – the flu, a cold, an infection, a cough, a childhood disease. An acute could also be a flare up of the chronic condition.
  • a first aid situation – a fall, a trauma, dental work, surgery, a sprain/strain, a burn.

The length of time I spend with a person during a consultation may vary depending on whether it is a chronic, an acute, or a first aid situation. But always, always, I am finding out about the person – the what, and the how of what bothers them.

Look for Part 2 to this topic – the homeopathic consultation – in my next post.

*******

If I can be of help in regard to a chronic, an acute or a first situation, I invite you to contact me here on this blog or through my website www.homeopathytoheal.com. I would be happy to talk with you, and to find out what is bothering you.

I Invite You, You May Get A YES

At the end of each of my blogs, I always write – I would be happy to talk with you about how homeopathy can be of help to you. I invite you, I encourage you to contact me.

Potential Patients

I have patients say to me that they have mentioned homeopathy to a family member or a friend. Other motther offeringhealth practitioners that I know, also have told me that they have mentioned homeopathy to some of their patients. My response always is please let the person know that I would be happy to talk with them.

What I know of some of these potential patients:

  • A young woman who has had an averse reaction to the to Gardasil vaccine (HPV).
  • A woman who experiences constant pain.
  • A boy who is having difficulty in school.
  • A woman who experiences vertigo.
  • A man who is having severe headaches, which is affecting his vision.
  • A young girl who has eczema on her hands.
  • A baby who is having digestive issues – after he eats, he spits up and is in constant pain.
  • A woman who is having hot flashes that are affecting her sleep.
  • An older woman who is looking for natural ways to help her in her health.
  • A woman who is having menstrual issues.
  • A woman who experiences episodes of depression.
  • A young women who feels overly anxious and emotional. (There is nothing wrong with feeling emotional, but she is not liking it.)

The list could go on. And you can see it is people of all ages, and for all different kinds of health concerns.

I know that some of these people have done other healing modalities, western medicine included. They may be taking a prescribed medication, which is alleviating or palliating their symptoms, but not necessarily healing. What is bothering them still continues to bother them. (Homeopathy can be used along with western medications.)

Homeopathy

In the consultation, the homeopath listens, observes, and witnesses what is bothering the person, what their suffering is like. A homeopathic remedy is given that is similar to the person’s suffering. The word homeopathy means “similar suffering”. (The main principle of homeopathy is Like Cures Like.)

The homeopathic remedy stimulates the person’s own healing process, their immune system, and heals at the core, at the source, of where the symptoms, the discomfort, and the pain come from. Homeopathic remedies are made from natural substances, are non-toxic and gentle in their healing.

I Invite You

Over the last year, I have entered several juried art shows. I was accepted into a few of the  bird flyingshows, and some I was not accepted into. My thinking was: enter the shows I was interested in. If I didn’t enter them, it would be a definite NO. If I did enter them, it could be a YES! I would not get a YES unless I moved forward and took action. So I did.

I invite you to take action and to find out about how homeopathy can be healing for you or a loved one. See if it can be a YES for you. You don’t know unless you do it, otherwise, it is a definite NO, and you may just continue to not feel well.

Either contact me through this blog or through my website www.homeopathytoheal.com  and let’s talk to see how homeopathy may help you. I do work with patients who are not local to the San Diego area by using Skype.

Preventive Care – Taking Care Of Oneself Now

Recently, I was talking to a woman about how she would like to live her life as she gets older. She said that she wants to live a healthy and full life, well into her 80’s and 90’s. She wants to be active, alert, healthy, and self sufficient. Her thinking is that now at this time of the her life, by taking good care of herself, she will be this person in her later years. It is very positive. She was asking me if I see people for preventive care in my homeopathic practice.

Preventative Care

It is making preparations. It is taking care of the concentric circles“soil” from which everything comes from in us. It is taking as good a care of ourselves now, so later on, we are in as good of health as we can be. It is preventive care:

  • eating well
  • exercising
  • getting good sleep
  • surrounding ourselves with like minded, positive, and supportive people
  • being our authentic self
  • doing activities that we love
  • being mindful of our thoughts and the words we use (of and about ourselves)
  • seeing regularly a health practitioner such as a chiropractor, an acupuncturist, a massage therapist, a western physician, an herbalist, a therapist, a hypnotherapist, an osteopath, an energy worker, and a homeopath

You often hear of people having monthly massages, chiropractic adjustments, or acupuncture treatments. A patient of mine said to me, I had a chiropractic adjustment the other day which helped with my headache. These adjustments have helped along with doing homeopathy.

Homeopathy And Preventive Care

To be honest, patients do not come to see me for preventive care very often. Usually, there is a specific reason that is bothering the person that has brought them in for homeopathy, whether it is a physical complaint, an emotional issue, a certain ongoing behavior, difficulty sleeping, and more.

Homeopathy is, and would be very helpful for preventive care. Homeopathy addresses the whole person. It is healing the “soil”, that makes up the whole person. I find that the person wants to be healthy, wants to be well, and has a wonderful motivation to be so. They want care that is non-invasive, natural, truly healing, and has no side effects. They don’t want to go the route of taking medications that are not really helping, not healing, have side effects, and possibly needed to use indefinitely.

If a person were to come in to see me, and say it was for preventive care, I would say to them good, and tell me more:

  • why are you here?
  • what is your concern?
  • is there something that is bothering you?
  • how would you like things to be?

and then, listen.
