The Use Of Homeopathy Is World Wide

Homeopathy is used all over the world. And it has been used since the early 1800’s when the German physician Dr. Samuel Hahneman developed it.

Hearing The Use Of Homeopathy In The Media

Recently, a friend sent me the link to an article about Prince Charles using homeopathy for the health care of animals instead of using antibiotics. (Click here to read the article.) I messaged her back, to tell her that the British Royal Family has been using homeopathy for years, and in fact they have a homeopathic physician that they see regularly.

Homeopathy has come up in literature and in the media. Often, it is just the word – homeopathy or homeopathic – and not really saying much about homeopathy as its own form of medicine. And other times, homeopathy is specifically mentioned in having helped and healed someone.

The National Center for Homeopathy wrote a post about the 1994 movie of LITTLE WOMEN. The post mentioned a scene in which Jo was looking through a Materia Medica, a reference book that has the descriptions of many homeopathic remedies. She was looking to find the homeopathic remedy that best fit the fever that one of her sisters’ was experiencing. The homeopathic remedy Belladonna was chosen. I have included the post here for you to read fully. By the way, the National Center for Homeopathy is a very good resource.

And recently I was watching an episode of the BBC program CALL THE MIDWIVES on Public Television. During a scene, one of the characters mentioned the homeopathic remedy Arnica montana. She was suggesting the use of Arnica montana for a person who may have experienced a fall, a bruising, or a trauma. (More about the homeopathic remedy Arnica montana.) I was excited to hear homeopathy mentioned.

Homeopathy Used World Wide

Homeopathy is used all over the world – the USA, Europe, South America, England, India, Russia, Japan, Eastern Europe, and other countries. It has been used for over 200 years. It heals deeply for first aid, acute conditions and for chronic conditions.

Measles: Homeopathy Helps

We have been hearing a lot about measles in the news. What we having been hearing has been about whether people have been vaccinated or not vaccinated for measles. I don’t want to go into this topic in this blog post. I think it is important for parents to know that if their child, or themselves as an adult, become ill with measles, or any other childhood disease, homeopathy can help during these times. And, to know that homeopathy is helpful if someone has vaccinated their child and there are adverse reactions to the vaccines.

In this blog I want to talk about measles, and how homeopathy can be helpful if someone is not moving through it well. The body has a wonderful ability to heal itself. It is when the body gets stuck, that help may be needed, and this is when homeopathy will be useful.  The homeopathic remedies are helping the body with its own healing abilities.  It is important to see a practitioner of homeopathy, a homeopath, to help in this health situation. You don’t want to self treat.

Measles

Measles is one of several childhood diseases. It is important that the rash develops, and moves downward. That is an indication of healing – from the inside out, and from the top downward. To read more about direction of healing, read my blog post on direction of cure.

Symptoms of measles:

measles

  • Fever of 102 – 104 Fahrenheit
  • Watery eyes – eyes inflamed
  • Sensitivity to light
  • Hard, dry cough
  • Sore throat
  • Seldom has an appetite
  • Tongue may be coated
  • Breath – sick smelling
  • Rash may start in mouth on 2 – 3 rd day. Tiny, white spots in inner lining of mouth, called Koplik’s Spots.
  • On 4th or 5th day, itchy red, rash will appear. Large, flat blotches, they may run into each other. Start on face, moving downward. (This is a Direction of Cure) Lasting 4 -7 days. Rash is a good sign.
  • Fever may rise as rash moves down the body, and subside in a few days.
  • Lasts around 10 days
  • Most contagious, 2 – 4 days before rash appears. Still keep child isolated for 5 days after rash develops.

Observation To Help Come to a Homeopathic Remedy

It is best to observe the person: their physical state, emotional state, and mental state. It is matching what the person is experiencing to a similar homeopathic remedy. This is Like Cures Like or the Law of Similars. Some areas to observe and note:

  • Symptoms come on suddenly or gradually
  • Which are the prominent symptoms? Fever, restlessness, fatigue, eye irritations, runny nose, rash
  • Color of nasal discharge. Does it irritate the skin?
  • Sensitivity to light
  • Reaction to motion
  • Limbs or facial muscles jerk or twitch
  • Feel tired or heavy
  • Cough or chest pains. What is the cough like?
  • Headache. Location of pain.  What is pain like?
  • Rash – present or not, discomfort
  • Thirst or no thirst.
  • Digestive issues – nausea, diarrhea, constipation.
  • Emotional state – irritability, wanting to be alone, wanting to be around others
  • Desire of fresh air

Of course, it is important to get as much rest and sleep as one can, drink fluids, eat if one wants to or not. Being in a dark room may help if someone is very sensitive to the light. Vitamin C and A can be helpful as well.

Homeopathic Remedies

homeopathic vialsThe ill person may start with one homeopathic remedy and then need to change to another, as they move through the illness. The homeopathic remedies are helping the body in its own healing abilities.

My Ear Hurts – Homeopathy Heals

An earache or ear infection can be very painful. Some children have a few, and some children have ongoing ones, with antibiotic, after antibiotic, that doesn’t help at all.  And the overuse of antibiotics is now thought of as being a possible cause of a child developing a peanut allergy. See my blog post OVERUSE OF ANTIBIOTICS MAY BE A CAUSE OF PEANUT ALLERGIES.

baby ear acheI want to let people know that there are other choices to help an earache or ear infection other than antibiotics. Homeopathy is very helpful.  As with anything, each person experiences an earache unique to them.  I have listed a few homeopathic remedies below that are helpful for earaches. When you read the description, you can see how different each remedy is.  The side of the earache? How it came on? Thirst? Emotional state? Cold or warm?  What makes them better? Worse?

Homeopathic Remedies

Observe the person who has the earache or ear infection, and match it to the remedy that is similar.

Aconite – comes on after being exposed to cold/dry wind or shock. Sudden onset. May come on after a fright. Sensitive to noise. External ear is red. Pain is sharp and severe. Thirsty for cold drinks. Restless, anxious, fearful, screaming with pain. Worse at night, from noise and pressure. Better in fresh air, from rest, and hot applications. May also have a high fever and/or swollen glands.

When one of my sons was a baby, he developed a fever. His ear may have been hurting as well. A couple of days before this, there had been an extremely loud clap of thunder during the night. (We very rarely have thunder in the San Diego area.) At the time, he had started to cry from the loud noise, and seemed very, very frightened. Remembering his response to the thunder several days before, I gave him the remedy Aconite. This homeopathic remedy helped him a lot.

Belladonna – comes on from exposure to cold/dry wind, or getting the head wet. Sudden onset. Right sided. Ear is bright red. Eardrum is red and bulging. Hears noises in the ear. Pain is severe, stitching, sharp, throbbing. Pain comes on suddenly. Pain may extend to neck. Tongue is “strawberry” in color. Pupils are dilated. Thirst less. Head is hot, and the extremities are cold. Restless. Delirious. Confused. Screams with the pain, even when sleeping.

Calcarea carbonica – may come on from getting wet. Putrid discharges. Hearing may be impaired. Throbbing pain. Person is slow, sweaty, sour and sluggish. Worse from cold and exertion. Better with rest and heat. Glands may be swollen. May be stubborn and obstinate. Constipated.

Chamomilla – may come while teething or getting wet. One cheek is red and hot, and the other is pale and cool. Pains are throbbing, sharp like a sudden attack. Hot and thirsty. Irritable, capricious, wants things now and then throws them away when given. Wants to be carried. Pains are unbearable. Worse at night, from cold air. Better from cold applications. May have a fever.

Hepar sulph – from cold or cold winds. Moves from left to right. Offensive discharges.  Hearing is impaired. Pain is sharp, stitching, and radiates to jaw or throat. Person is sweaty and chilly. Irritable, angry, and abusive. Better with hot drinks, warmth, head or ear wrapped up, hot applications. Often accompanied by a sore throat or swollen glands.

Pulsatilla – after getting chilled, from emotional stress, measles or common cold. Discharge is thick, bland and yellow/green. Ear is red and feels blocked. Pains are pulsating, darting, tearing, and pressing. Moods are changeable. Thirst less. Chilly. Weepy, clingy, irritable, whinny, and affectionate. Worse at night and from heat. Better from cold, crying, gentle motion, and fresh air. Hearing is impaired. Hears roaring of pulse in ear. Itching in ear.

Silica – may come on after getting chilled, change of weather to cold and dry, from getting feet wet and from vaccination. Has blocked sensation in ear. Itching in ear. Discharge is smelly, thick and bloody. Pain is tearing, pressing outward. Sweaty and chilly. Timid, anxious and worn out. Worse from cold, cold drafts and wind, and open air. Better from warmth, wrapping, hot applications and humidity. Hearing is impaired.

************

If the earache continues or if there are ongoing earaches, it would be beneficial to see a homeopath. The homeopathic remedies I listed here are only a few of many that can help and heal in this situation. When seeing a homeopath, they will find out more about the person, and how the earache is for them. Then the homeopathic remedy that is the most similar to the person will be given.  A good healing will come from this.

I would be happy to talk further about how homeopathy can be of help for earaches and ear infections. Either leave a comment below or contact me through my website, http://www.homeopathytoheal.com

Not All Coughs Are The Same – Healing With Homeopathy

Coughs.

Coughs are the way our bodies try to clear something out of our throats, airways or lungs. There could be a tickle in our throats. We may have chocked on something, food or just swallowed the wrong way.  And then we cough. It could just be one cough, or an outgoing coughing spell.  The cough could be loose and wet, or dry and hard. A hard cough can be very painful, and tiring. Mucus/phlegm of different colors or thicknesses could be coughed up. Even blood could be coughed up. Vomiting may occur after a coughing spell, or even loss of urine.  The cough could be worse at a certain time of day. Or worse from cool air felt on the body.  The person may feel fearful, irritable, want to be alone or want to be surrounded by other people.  This could be an acute cough situation, or a flare up of a chronic cough.

someone coughing

Here is a list of some homeopathic remedies with a short description of how the cough is experienced in this remedy picture.  Please know that there are many more homeopathic remedies that could be useful for a cough. You will see when reading these descriptions, how different each cough can be. All coughs are not the same.

Observe the person who is coughing, then match that to these short descriptions.  The main principle of homeopathy is Like Cures Like or the Law of Similars. Very simply, you are matching the symptoms of the person to that of the homeopathic remedy.

  • ACONITE  – cough comes on suddenly. After exposure to cold, dry wind. Constant short, dry cough with a croupy sound that wakens the person from sleep. Anxious feeling. cough arises from the larynx as the person enters a warm room.  Very fearful.
  • BELLADONNA – person is red faced. Burning hot. Dilated pupils. Cough begins as if there is a speck has settled in the larynx.  Sudden onset. Dry teasing cough, keeps the whole house awake at night.
  • BRYONIA – hard, dry cough with a painful chest. Needs to sit up in bed. Similar to Aconite, in that the cough becomes worse when entering a warm room. Thirst for cold drinks. Irritable,  wants to be left alone. Worse from any movement.
  • FERRUM PHOSPHORICUM  – short, painful cough from irritation or tickling in the windpipe.
  • HEPAR SULPH – oversensitive, especially to cold air and the slightest drafts. Very cold. wants to be wrapped up, cannot bear to be uncovered. Coughs even when putting a hand out of the covers. Cough is loose, rattling and croupy. May cough up a thick yellow mucus. Sometimes a coughing spell causes strangling and gagging. Worse in morning.
  • KALI BICHROMICUM – cough sounds brassy and hacking. Seems to come from a tickle at the base of the throat.  Expectoration is a long, string of ropy and tough mucus. Maybe of a yellowish color.
  • NUX VOMICA  – dry, teasing cough. worse in larynx and chest. Cough may come in spells and end with retching. Occurs more often in cold, dry windy weather. person is often feverish. Shivers when moving or when uncovered. Oversensitive to noise, odors, light, music. Easily offended.
  • PHOSPHORUS – when a head cold has gone to the chest. dry, tickling, exhausting cough coming from the larynx or farther down in the chest. May feel a sensation  of tightness across chest or as if there is a great weight pressing on the chest. Cough from talking or being in the open air. May have a bursting headache. Thirst for ice cold drinks and fruity juices.
  • PULSATILLA – dry cough in the evening that sounds loose in the morning. May have paroxysms of coughing with gagging and choking, bringing up thick, yellowish mucus. Feels as if there is a weight on the chest. Worse from coming into a warm room. Better in open air.
  • RUMEX CRISPUS  – cough occurs when going outside, opposite to symptoms of Aconite. Dry, short paroxysms of coughing or a constant hack.
  • SPONGIA – wakes from sleep with a suffocation feeling. Difficulty breathing. Anxious, as with croup. Loud cough sounding like a saw through a board. Worse: from talking and before midnight.

*************

You may want to see a homeopathic practitioner. The cough may just be a part of the total picture, and the homeopath will take a more in depth look at the person.

There is a Need for Homeopathy

There is a need for homeopathy. People need homeopathy. Every time someone calls me, for whatever health concern they have, I say to myself after talking with them, there really is a need for homeopathy.

There is a need because people are not feeling better. They may be on medications, which temporarily eases the symptoms, but they are not feeling better. There has been no healing. People are looking for other ways to help in their health care. Looking for a deeper healing, a gentler healing and no side effects. Homeopathy fits that description.

Need for homeopathy in acute conditions

A post on The National Center for Homeopathy’s (NCH) Facebook page writes about the need for homeopathy. Specifically, the topic is how strains of bacterial infections have become resistant to antibiotics due to their over use in medical care and in farm animals.  The post continues to say how homeopathy is very effective in the treatment of bacterial and viral infections, in fact, homeopathy has been effective with these kinds of infections long before antibiotics were developed. Dr. Margaret Chan, the Director-General of the World Health Organization is quoted in the post. She says, ” Things as common as strep throat or a child’s scratched knee could once again kill…”

To read the full post, google “The National Center for Homeopathy July 8”. The NCH’s Facebook page will be the first entry. Click on that and then scroll down to July 8th. (The National Center for Homeopathy is a great resource: for practitioners, for articles and for information.)

Since this post on the NCH Facebook page is on bacterial infections,  I have included a wonderful video on how homeopathy  helped a man who had developed a MRSA infection. The title of the video is “One Story of Homeopathy – healing a Super bug”. It was made by the New York City filmmaker Marc Wishengrad about his own treatment when he contracted the “Super Bug” or MRSA – Methicillin-resistant-Staphylococcus aureus.

Most of the time, the bacterial infection is not as severe as the one that Marc Wishengrad experienced. Homeopathy is very helpful when there are infections and high fevers. About two months ago, I received a phone call from the mother of a patient of mine. She was calling me to say that her 13 year old son was experiencing a very painful sore throat. It had come on very suddenly and he had a fever. She suspected it was strep, and was planning on taking him to the doctor, and perhaps have a throat culture taken.  I suggested using the homeopathic remedy Belladonna.

The picture of Belladonna is a sore throat that comes on suddenly, violently and severely painful. There is a fever, a restlessness, and sometimes hallucinations are experienced. Although the person is burning hot, there is no thirst.  There can be a sensitivity to light, and it is often has right sided symptoms. I told the mom to give him several doses of Belladonna, and to call me the next day. When I spoke to her the fever had broken and his throat was no longer as sore. Belladonna helped a lot. It is understanding what the suffering is of the person, and then selecting a homeopathic remedy similar to that suffering.  This is Like cures Like or the Law of Similars.

The MRSA infection and the sore throat are both examples of acute conditions. Homeopathy is wonderful in the healing of acute conditions.

Need for homeopathy in chronic conditions

Most of the people who call me are calling about chronic conditions.  These can range from skin eruptions, asthma, digestive issues, menstrual problems, urinary tract infections, chronic fatigue, anxiety, depression, obstruction in the nose, constriction feeling in the throat, ongoing gum pain and more. Chronic conditions are ongoing. Sometimes they ease off and the person feels better, but then there is a flare up, again, which often happens when there is more stress in someone’s life. Medication may ease the symptoms, but there is never a healing. Homeopathy is extremely helpful in these kinds of chronic conditions.

So when you or a loved one have a need, whether an infection or an on going condition, it may be time to go to a homeopath for treatment.

Homeopathy: Supporting a Woman Through a Caesarian Birth and Recovery

I wrote this article for the January 2013 issue of Natural Baby Pros, an online magazine. This issue was focusing on Caesarian sections. Their link is http://www.naturalbabypros.com

The article link is https://www.naturalbabypros.com/learn/140-article-library/912-homeopathy-supporting-a-woman-through-a-caesarian-birth-and-recovery

——————————————————————————————————————-

There are many scenarios resulting in a Caesarian section. Some are planned due to choice or a physical concern.  And some are the result of an emergency situation and not planned. In any scenario, the woman still goes through trauma and a healing process afterwards. Healing always takes time. Homeopathy can help with the trauma and the healing that is experienced with a Caesarian section.

Homeopathy is a system of medicine that was developed by the German physician Samuel Hahnemann in the late 1700’s. During the mid 1800’s to the early 1900’s, homeopathy was widely used in the United States, and is presently experiencing a resurgence in the United States. In addition, homeopathy is extensively practiced in England, Europe, South America, India and other parts of the world.

Homeopathy looks at each person as unique. How a woman experiences having a Caesarian section is unique to her. For example, one woman may find that it is the physical symptoms that bother her the most, such as feeling sore and bruised; tired and fatigued; concern about scarring; or breastfeeding issues. Another woman may experience the trauma more on an emotional level, feeling angry, disappointed, or let down that the birth was not as she had planned.  Again, this is showing how individual and unique we all are.

The homeopathic practitioner or homeopath takes the time to listen and to observe what it is that bothers the woman, and what it is like for her. This could be the type of pain; how often the pain is; her emotional responses to what has happened and is happening; dreams; fears and more. All of this information guides the homeopath in selecting a homeopathic remedy that is most similar to what it is that the woman is experiencing. Simply, it is matching the state of the woman to a  homeopathic remedy. This is the main principle of homeoapthy – The Law of Similars or Like Cures Like. The given homeopathic remedy stimulates the woman’s own healing process.

Here are some of the concerns that a woman may be experiencing after having a Caesarian section:

  • Scarring
  • Pains and discomfort from the surgery
  • Pains and discomfort from labor, if the mother also experienced labor
  • Emotional state – fear, anger, let down, disappointment, weepy, depression
  • Exhaustion/fatigue
  • Bleeding
  • Breastfeeding issues
  • The health of the baby

There are homeopathic remedies that are very useful in first aid situations, Caesarian section included. Below is a list of some of them. It is safe to use homeopathic remedies while nursing. Only use one remedy at a time. Sometimes, the state of the woman may change and another  remedy will be needed as the healing progresses.

HOMEOPATHIC REMEDIES

State of mother:

  • Staphysagria – mother feels resentful, angry and let down. May feel as if she had been assaulted.
  • Pulsatilla – weepy, clingy, wanting to be with others. After pains from delivery.
  • Aconite – shock and fear. Feel that she will die.

Trauma from the surgery.  Injured feeling. Aches, pains, bruising, swelling, contusions and inflammations:

  • Arnica Montana – very useful remedy for any kind of trauma and injury.
  • Bellis Perennis – usually used for injuries on the trunk of the body or if Arnica did not help.

Pains in the sacrum or coccyx after an epidural has been given or when forceps were used:

  • Hypericum – remedy that helps in areas that are rich with nerves, such as the fingertips, toes and tailbone (coccyx), tongue, teeth, eyes, and genitalia.

Severe pains in the tissues that have been torn or cut during delivery or from episiotomies or Caesarian section. helpful for the healing of the Caesarian scar:

  • Staphysagria – helps in post-surgical pain (see above).
  • Calendula – helps with healing of cuts, wounds, scratches, abrasions, incisions and scrapes. It works as an antiseptic and prevents serious infection. Also in a cream used topically for wounds, incisions, etc.
  • Hypericum – helps in injuries, such as contusions, lacerations, punctures in areas that are rich in nerves.

If received general anesthesia:

  • Phosphorous – having prolonged symptoms of nausea, sleepiness, and/or just out of it after having come out of the anesthesia.

Breastfeeding:

  • Belladonna – breasts are engorged. throbbing pains, red streaks, breasts feel hot. There may be a fever.
  • Byronia – engorged breasts. stitching pains. Breasts are pale and hard. Worse from an kind of movement. Very irritable.
  • Castor equi – nipples are sore and cracked.
  • China – anemic. Exhaustion from breastfeeding.
  • Phytolacca – nipples are cracked. Milk ducts are blocked. Lumpy breast. Abscess/mastitis.

Strained muscles, tendons or joints.

  • Rhus tox – sore when first starting to move, but once moving feels better
  • Ruta grav – good for muscle and tendon strains.

It is always important to see a trained homeopath if any health concern or condition continues. If may also be beneficial to see a homeopath before a woman gets pregnant or during her pregnancy. Sometimes, the underlying health state that a woman experiences before getting pregnant may affect how the pregnancy proceeds and what happens during the delivery, perhaps resulting in an emergency Caesarian section. Homeopathy is very helpful in these kinds of situations. Homeopathy is treating the whole person, and when the woman is in a more healthy state, the possibility of the baby, the pregnancy, and the delivery being healthier and going smoothly increases.
