I will be talking about homeopathy, and how it can help women in their health.

My Practice

In my practice, I see women of all ages and for various health concerns. There usually is some specific reason that brings the woman in to see me – a physical complaint, an emotional issue, an ongoing health concern. In addition to this specific reason, there is her, the woman, and how she responds and feels on all levels (physically, emotionally, mentally, and spiritually) to what has happened in her life.

Homeopathy addresses the whole of her. Through listening, observing, witnessing and understanding what is at the core of what is bothering her, a homeopathic remedy is given that is similar to what she is experiencing, to the totality of her. The homeopathic remedy stimulates her own healing process, strengthening her vital force or immune system, healing the specific reason why she came in, and also healing the totality of her. Often, a series of homeopathic remedies are needed, using one at a time.

Some Of The Health Concerns Women Experience

I am asked so often, “I have this, can homeopathy help me?” I say yes, and I need to know more about you. (You have read this in previous posts.) I am listing here, by categories, what I have been asked. Often it is a symptom(s). Symptoms are not separate. It is the totality of the woman who is addressed, and the totality heals along with the symptom(s).

  • menstrual issues – cramps, PMS, bloating, headaches, late periods, heavy flow, clots, peri-menopause, menopause, hot flashes, insomnia, other symptoms related that may come up or are exasperated during the menstrual cycle
  • digestive issues – bloating, constipation, diarrhea, food allergies and sensitivities, irritable bowel syndrome, Crohn’s disease
  • urinary tract issues
  • sleep issues – insomnia, frequent waking, difficulty falling asleep, nightmares
  • pain – muscular, arthritic, nerve, acute or chronic, from an old injury
  • headaches – migraines, allergies, seasonal
  • anxiety, depression, ongoing grief, fears, phobias, focusing issues, memory issues
  • skin eruptions – eczema, psoriasis, acne, rosacea, warts
  • respiratory – asthma, shortness of breath, coughs
  • allergies – food sensitivities, runny nose, coughs
  • emotional states – sadness, anger, outbursts, fears, anxieties
  • autoimmune illnesses – chronic fatigue, fibromyalgia, polymyalgia
  • lingering affects from an illness or flu
  • acute illnesses – stomachaches, ear infections, runny noses
  • “this is bothering me”

An Observation

It may be that we women always have a cycle. Whether we are actually menstruating, or not menstruating. Whether we are pregnant, or have gone through menopause. This “cycle” time may be when a symptom, a feeling, a thought, a state of being, a health concern, or what bothers us, is more prevalent or more intense than usual.

What Is Bothering You?

When I first sit down with a patient at the initial consultation, I ask “what is bothering you?”, “Why are you here?” As the consultation progresses, I may ask at some point, “from all of what you have said, what is bothering you the most?” And the patient tells me more about this. It is often our door in to finding out about the wholeness of this person.

What Is Bothering The Person

What is bothering the person is very individual, very indicative about the person, and often a manifestation of the root cause.  Here are a few of what patients have said to me that is bothering them:

  • My nose is running all the time. I have to wipe it. It is annoying.
  • It feels as if the food is rotting in my stomach.
  • I am so anxious.
  • I have difficulty breathing.
  • My younger sister is the boss of me.
  • My neck hurts all the time.
  • I feel as thought there is dripping in my ear.
  • The skin eruption on my face doesn’t go away.
  • There are bumps on my skin.
  • I am not functioning like I did before the accident.
  • I am feeling so weak after having the flu.
  • I am having these persistent thoughts that scare me.
  • It upsets me so much how other people treat animals and older people.
  • Loud sounds are uncomfortable to me. (A child runs to his mother when hearing loud sounds.)

You can see how varied it is. And there often is no name to it, nor a name of an illness. It is a sensation, a feeling, a fear, a physical symptom, a thought, a response, a reaction.

I find it very interesting that what can bother one person, such as a skin eruption, may not be bothering another person who also has skin eruptions. This shows me over and over again how individual we all are. My job always, is to see, observe, learn about this person in front of me, and how they experience what bothers them, and how they experience their life. I am learning about the world they live in.

The Totality

The totality is like this photograph. What is bothering the person is the drop in the drop of waterwater. The ripples from this drop are: the other symptoms the person may be experiencing; how what bothers the person affects them; how the person perceives things that happen to them; their fears; their dreams; the language they use to express themselves; the gestures they make; their history and more. The ripples and the drop are the totality of the person.

What Is Bothering You?

When does what is bothering someone become too much, and that they then want help?

A lot of us live with or through what is bothering us. We accept it, even though it bothers us and affects our lives. Perhaps it is when the pain is too much – the physical, the emotional or the mental pain. Perhaps, it is when we don’t like what is happening or how we feel. Perhaps, it is when we don’t want to feel this way anymore. Perhaps, it is when we want to be better, really better. And perhaps, it is when we see how important it is to take care of ourselves.

I have found that people come to homeopathy because something has been bothering them for awhile. They may have gone to other health practitioners, including western medicine, and have felt that they are not better. This is often when they come to homeopathy.
