Unfolding

Working with a patient, getting to know and witnessing what is bothering them is like an unfolding flower. A flower unfolds and opens up, first starting out as a tightly, closed bud, and then slowly or rose-2634412_960_720quickly opening up to its fullest bloom. A patient does the same thing, starting with the complaint of what is bothering them, which is often something physical, then going deeper. This is the unfolding.

Unfolding

It may be that the patient says, “I have this disease, this illness.” And gives a name. Or they have experienced a trauma or an injury. For example:

  • Someone says they have a particular disease or health condition such ADHD, fibromyalgia, asthma, eczema. And asks, what homeopathic remedy would you give me for this?  The thinking here is that the person has this, a name of an illness, and wants a medicine for this particular illness.
  • Someone has had a fall and bruised their leg. They use the homeopathic remedy Arnica montana to help with the trauma of the fall and the bruising of their leg.

In the next layer, the patient may say they have a particular illness, AND, they will start to talk about very specific symptoms that they are experiencing. These symptoms may not be what are typically listed under the disease name, but are unique to how this individual is experiencing this. At this layer, the patient is starting to tell more about themselves as an individual person, and how they are experiencing what bothers them. It is not just the name of the illness.  An example:

  • A sore throat. They may have been told they have strep throat. The person says that it is on the right side. Feels very sore. When they swallow it hurts. The sore throat came on suddenly. The pain is throbbing and pulsating. There is a fever. The person feels almost delirious.

At deeper layers, the patient will talk even more about themselves and how they are experiencing what bothers them in regards to the physical symptoms, and in their life, talking about emotional reactions and responses. They will describe how they experience the pain or the discomfort, and how it affects them. Often, a particular sensation will be described, that is experienced on many levels. They talk about dreams and fears. The homeopath starts to see a thread running through what the patient is saying, that connects the physical, the emotional, and the mental states. This all makes up the totality of the person. For instance:

  • A woman tells me about the arthritic type pains she experiences in her hands. The pain makes it difficult for her to hold and grasp objects. When she cooks or does household tasks, her hands are extremely painful. She cooks a lot. She says the pain feels as if her hands are being squeezed really, really tightly. She makes a hand gesture when she is talking about the squeezing. (I watch for hand gestures, especially recurring hand ones. These gestures express energy.) Her husband is having business difficulties. She says that she and her husband have been taken advantaged of by other people, people they had trusted. She would like to get back at these people, to take revenge on them.

Meeting The Patient Where They Are

Just as a flower unfolds, so does a person. Starting with one layer and then moving to another one, unfolding, opening. Each person is different. Whatever the top layer is, what is being expressed, is where we start.

One homeopathic remedy may be used and is healing. Other times, a series of homeopathic remedies are  used as different layers emerge and there is a deeper understanding of what the person is experiencing.

I have found that it is always meeting the patient where they are. The totality of where they are now, giving the homeopathic remedy that is similar to this.

The examples above are of people who told me what they were experiencing verbally. When I see a baby, or someone who can’t speak for themselves, or an animal, we go by observation and what their parents, their family members and caretakers, or human person can tell me. The person or animal is telling us what is bothering them, not necessarily in words, showing us by behaviors, physical responses, dislikes and likes, what has changed from before, and more. Homeopathy works for them too. They patient doesn’t have to be verbal.

I was recently asked if I see people who have lingering effects from the coronavirus. I said yes. I want to mention it here again that homeopathy is very helpful for people who have the virus; who may have had the virus in the past and are experiencing lingering symptoms and effects from it, (“long haul”); and who may have had a reaction to one of the vaccines.

I invite you to contact me if there is something that is bothering you or a loved one. You can contact me here or through my website www.homeopathytoheal.com.  I work with people both in person and virtually.
