In my homeopathic practice, I often hear a patient talk about a particular sensation or feeling they are experiencing. Here are some of what I have heard patients say and express to me in words, sounds, gestures, movements and images:
- It is as if there is water dripping in my ear.
- I feel the anxiety in the pit of my stomach.
- I feel really small, and she is the boss of me.
- I have the fleeting thought of stabbing myself in the abdomen area.
- It is as if something, like a insect, is running up and down my legs.
- It is as if my naval is weeping.
- It is as if the food is rotting in my stomach.
- It goes pop.
- It feels as though it is locked up, something clamped onto it, or restricted. (Talking about vocal cords.)
- A particular sound will be made.
- A movement with their hands, or body.
The Sensation
The particular sensation may be what brought the person in for homeopathy. It is something that bothers them a lot, and may be interfering with their life. They may have gone to their medical physician to find out what this could be. And after an exam and even some tests, the physician may have not found anything that was wrong – they could not see, hear, nor observe what or where this sensation was coming from.
In homeopathy, the sensation or feeling does not need to be seen, heard, nor observed, meaning that there may not be actually something physically present. The fact that the person experiences this sensation or feeling is enough. The sensation is an expression of what bothers them deep within, and it is being manifested in this sensation that they are experiencing.
Wanting To Know More
I want to know more about the sensation that the person is experiencing. I will say, “tell me more”, “how does that feel”, “what is the experience of _____”, or “how do you feel it in your body”?
The person will start to describe the sensation. They will tell me what happens when they experience the sensation; how if feels to them; how it effects their life and more. Often an image comes up that reflects how the person experiences the sensation. All of this adds to understanding what the person is experiencing, what is bothering them, what they want to be better.
Why I Write This Post
I write this post to those people who may be experiencing some sensation in their body – a discomfort, a pain, a difficulty in functioning – and may have had it checked out with their physician, and nothing was seen to be wrong. On some level it is good that nothing is wrong, yet the sensation is still being experienced and is still bothering the person.
