Not All Coughs Are The Same – Healing With Homeopathy

Coughs.

Coughs are the way our bodies try to clear something out of our throats, airways or lungs. There could be a tickle in our throats. We may have chocked on something, food or just swallowed the wrong way.  And then we cough. It could just be one cough, or an outgoing coughing spell.  The cough could be loose and wet, or dry and hard. A hard cough can be very painful, and tiring. Mucus/phlegm of different colors or thicknesses could be coughed up. Even blood could be coughed up. Vomiting may occur after a coughing spell, or even loss of urine.  The cough could be worse at a certain time of day. Or worse from cool air felt on the body.  The person may feel fearful, irritable, want to be alone or want to be surrounded by other people.  This could be an acute cough situation, or a flare up of a chronic cough.

Here is a list of some homeopathic remedies with a short description of how the cough is experienced in this remedy picture.  Please know that there are many more homeopathic remedies that could be useful for a cough. You will see when reading these descriptions, how different each cough can be. All coughs are not the same.

Observe the person who is coughing, then match that to these short descriptions.  The main principle of homeopathy is Like Cures Like or the Law of Similars. Very simply, you are matching the symptoms of the person to that of the homeopathic remedy.

  • ACONITE  – cough comes on suddenly. After exposure to cold, dry wind. Constant short, dry cough with a croupy sound that wakens the person from sleep. Anxious feeling. cough arises from the larynx as the person enters a warm room.  Very fearful.
  • BELLADONNA – person is red faced. Burning hot. Dilated pupils. Cough begins as if there is a speck has settled in the larynx.  Sudden onset. Dry teasing cough, keeps the whole house awake at night.
  • BRYONIA – hard, dry cough with a painful chest. Needs to sit up in bed. Similar to Aconite, in that the cough becomes worse when entering a warm room. Thirst for cold drinks. Irritable,  wants to be left alone. Worse from any movement.
  • FERRUM PHOSPHORICUM  – short, painful cough from irritation or tickling in the windpipe.
  • HEPAR SULPH – oversensitive, especially to cold air and the slightest drafts. Very cold. wants to be wrapped up, cannot bear to be uncovered. Coughs even when putting a hand out of the covers. Cough is loose, rattling and croupy. May cough up a thick yellow mucus. Sometimes a coughing spell causes strangling and gagging. Worse in morning.
  • KALI BICHROMICUM – cough sounds brassy and hacking. Seems to come from a tickle at the base of the throat.  Expectoration is a long, string of ropy and tough mucus. Maybe of a yellowish color.
  • NUX VOMICA  – dry, teasing cough. worse in larynx and chest. Cough may come in spells and end with retching. Occurs more often in cold, dry windy weather. person is often feverish. Shivers when moving or when uncovered. Oversensitive to noise, odors, light, music. Easily offended.
  • PHOSPHORUS – when a head cold has gone to the chest. dry, tickling, exhausting cough coming from the larynx or farther down in the chest. May feel a sensation  of tightness across chest or as if there is a great weight pressing on the chest. Cough from talking or being in the open air. May have a bursting headache. Thirst for ice cold drinks and fruity juices.
  • PULSATILLA – dry cough in the evening that sounds loose in the morning. May have paroxysms of coughing with gagging and choking, bringing up thick, yellowish mucus. Feels as if there is a weight on the chest. Worse from coming into a warm room. Better in open air.
  • RUMEX CRISPUS  – cough occurs when going outside, opposite to symptoms of Aconite. Dry, short paroxysms of coughing or a constant hack.
  • SPONGIA – wakes from sleep with a suffocation feeling. Difficulty breathing. Anxious, as with croup. Loud cough sounding like a saw through a board. Worse: from talking and before midnight.

*************

You may want to see a homeopathic practitioner. The cough may just be a part of the total picture, and the homeopath will take a more in depth look at the person.

Dr. Rajan Sankaran Talks About Homeopathy

To continue with THERE IS A NEED FOR HOMEOPATHY, I have included a wonderful video made by Dr. Rajan Sankaran talking about homeopathy. He is a homeopath from Bombay, India and developed with his colleagues the Vital Sensation Method of homeopathy. The video is a little more than 8 minutes long and titled “Answer to Critic” . Here is the link:

Dr. Rajan Sankaran

These are some of the highlights for me in the video. I would suggest that you watch it for yourself.

  • In his practice, Dr. Sankaran’s patients are feeling better from homeopathic care.  He sees that what brought the person in to see him is better, as well as the person is feeling better in themselves.  This is what any homeopath looks for in the treatment.
  • Not to worry if homeopathy is logical or not. Simply watch the results.
  • Science is what actually happens. We don’t always understand it at the time. Later on, we may understand it.  If we don’t understand it, that doesn’t mean it doesn’t exist. Dr Sankaran gives the example of the apple falling from a tree/gravity.
  • Western medicine looks at the parts of a person being ill. And treats that part; treats it locally. This is similar to a car being worked on, replacing the part. The human body is not like that.
  • Each of us is a whole being. All the systems (parts) of the body are integrated and act as one being.  We are not parts. We need to treat the whole person.
  • Each person has their own individual specific state of disease. The homeopath perceives, reads, understands, observes each person’s own unique state. A homeopathic remedy or medicine is then selected that is like this person’s state. This produces a healing.
  • Stress is extremely individual. It is inside us, not outside of us. It is how each person perceives, experiences, responds and reacts to the situations in their life.

 ———————

This video further shows how homeopathy fills a need for people in their health care.  So many people experience chronic diseases, and are not doing better from the treatment they are receiving through western medicine. With homeopathy, the individual and their wholeness is being seen and treated. Then there can be a true healing.

Healing With Homeopathy: Successful Results

The Society of Homeopaths is an organization that represents professional homeopaths in the UK. In their online publication, an article is written about the success of homeopathy in healing patients experiencing various health concerns. The evaluation of the patients took place at the Bristol Homeopathic Hospital.  Patients were both children and adults. Some of the health concerns that these patients experienced were: eczema, asthma, inflammatory bowel diseases, irritable bowel syndrome, menopausal issues, arthritis, migraines, depression and chronic fatigue.

If you would like to read the article, I have included the link: http://www.homeopathy-soh.org/…homeopathy-in-practice/http://www.homeopathy-soh.org/research/evidence-base-for-homeopathy-2/homeopathy-in-practice/

It is good to have a study showing how wonderful homeopathy heals. There is a need for homeopathy.

homeopathic remedies

Homeopathy treats the person, not the disease. Two people who experience asthmatic symptoms would not need the same homeopathic remedy. Each person is given a homeopathic remedy that is similar to what they are experiencing. The Law of Similars or Like Cures Like is one of the main principles of homeopathy. General symptoms of asthma may be experienced by each person, such as difficulty breathing, but underneath and at the core, each person experiences the asthma uniquely to them.  By understanding each person’s suffering, the homeopath gives the homeopathic remedy that is most similar to that person, that stimulates the person’s own healing.

Homeopathy – Treating the Person Not the Disease

What brings someone to homeopathy is often a specific health concern, a certain symptom or symptoms. For example, someone will say I have Fibromyalgia, can homeopathy help me?

As I said in my blog, THERE IS A NEED FOR HOMEOPATHY, homeopathy can help.

Homeopathy is treating the person, it is treating you, not the disease. The disease is a name, a label to a list of symptoms.  People ask me when they call or when I am talking with them, does homeopathy treat this or treat that? I say yes, it does help. Homeopathy is treating you who has this particular disease or symptom.

We are all unique individuals and experience the disease or symptoms differently from each other. Two people who “have” Fibromyalgia experience it uniquely to themselves. They each may have the common symptoms of Fibromyalgia, the ones listed under the label, the name, but each of them experience the fibromyagia symptoms differently. The how, the what of each person’s experience is what the homeopath wants to understand. This leads the homeopath to select the most similar homeopathic remedy to the person, to the person’s individual state. This is Like Cures Like or the Law of SImilars.  Homeopathy is addressing the healing of the whole person – the emotional, the mental, the physical, and the spiritual sides of the person.

.woman feelin good

There isn’t a homeopathic remedy for Fibromyalgia. There is, a homeopathic remedy for the individual person who is experiencing symptoms listed under the name of Fibromyalgia.  Please note, I used Fibromyalgia as an example. What I have written here applies to all disease names, such as chronic fatigue syndrome, urinary tract infections, migraines and more. Homeopathy is treating the person.

Healing ADD/ADHD With Homeopathy

To continue with the thought of my last post, There is a Need for Homeopathy, I want to address attention deficit hyperactivity disorders (ADD/ADHD). Many parents don’t know that there are other choices besides medication in helping their children. The information in this post also applies to adults who have ADD/ADHD like symptoms.

Very often school aged children, usually boys more than girls, are placed on medication. The prescribed medications are stimulants, such as Ritalin, Dexedrine, Desoxyn or Cylert.  If these medications are not effective, tricyclic antidepressants may be prescribed.

ADD/ADHD encompasses a large range of behaviors and symptoms. The following are some of those behaviors considered to be symptomatic of ADD/ADHD: over stimulation, distraction, restlessness, hyper vigilance, withdrawal, compulsion, impulsiveness, acting out, poor attention span, lack of focus, lack of concentration, disruption, aggression, defiance, dawdling, lack of friends, low self esteem, hyperactivity, awkwardness, and difficulty with school work.  Remember, ADD/ADHD is a name, a title,  with symptoms listed underneath.

Sometimes these behaviors and symptoms are a response to detrimental factors in the child’s environment. Once the child’s environment is changed, the child does much better. Samuel Hahnemann, the German physician who developed homeopathy, called these detrimental factors maintaining causes.  Some of these factors could be:

  • The child is bored and needs a more stimulating school environment
  • The school program doesn’t plan enough time for physical activities
  • The child learns better using a different teaching modality, such as auditory, visual, or kinesthetic
  • The child is not hearing or seeing properly and thus having difficulty processing the information
  • The child is not getting enough to eat or getting enough sleep
  • There are difficulties at home

                                                    three children

With conventional medicine, children with different symptoms are prescribed the same ADD/ADHD medication. For example, a shy child who may have difficulty concentrating and staying on task in school is prescribed the same medication as another child who is portraying behaviors of aggression and violence, biting people, and being very difficult to control. Both of these children are diagnosed as having ADD/ADHD, and both are prescribed the same medication, although each child is expressing a different state, different symptoms and different behaviors.  This is the one size fits all thinking.  What happens is: have a diagnosis of ADD/ADHD and give medication for ADD/ADHD. The individual child is not being treated.

The intended actions of the medications last only for several hours and then another dose needs to be taken. Side effects are often experienced when taking some of these medications. These side effects could be loss of appetite, insomnia, tics, headaches, stomach aches, drowsiness, short-term growth retardation, irritability, moodiness, and increased rate of blood pressure. Side effects are the unwanted responses from a prescribed medication.

Homeopathy can be very useful in helping children, and adults, who are experiencing some of these behaviors and symptoms. Homeopathy treats the whole person, the individual person, not the diagnosis ADD/ADHD.  The shy child mentioned above would be given a different homeopathic remedy than the child who has aggressive behaviors or the adult who is impulsive. Each person is experiencing symptoms and behaviors unique to them, and therefore each person needs a homeopathic remedy that is similar to what they are experiencing. The homeopath takes time to understand and to uncover what the person is experiencing, what and where they are suffering. And then he/she selects a homeopathic remedy that is similar to that suffering. The main principle of homeopathy is Like Cures Like or the Law of Similars. The homeopathic remedy then simulates the person’s own healing process.

We want a healing, not a palliating. Homeopathy heals. There is a need for homeopathy.

The Homeopathic Remedy Cuprum Metallicum is Safe

I saw that there was a search by someone asking if Cuprum metallicum is safe.  Yes, the homeopathic remedy Cuprum metallicum is safe. All homeopathic remedies are safe.  What I am writing here applies to all homeopathic remedies.

That said, you still want to be respectful of homeopathic remedies. You take a homeopathic remedy when it is similar to what the person is experiencing. This is like cures like or the Law of Similars, the main principle of homeopathy. The homeopathic remedy is only homeopathic if it is similar to what the person is experiencing; it is not homeopathic if it is not similar. Homeopathy means similar (homo) suffering (pathy).  If you take the remedy, one or two doses, and it is not helpful for you, it won’t hurt you. You want to stop taking that remedy then.

Homeopathic remedies are made in homeopathic pharmacies. The substance that the homeopathic remedy is made from, in this case Cuprum metallicum, is grounded up and then mixed with an alcohol/water solution. (Other substances may start in a mother tincture form.) A small part of this alcohol/water solution is diluted more, and then succussed (shaken vigorously and hit against something hard. Hahnemann used a bible). This dilution and succussion process is done many, many times creating the strength or potency of the homeopathic remedy. At the 12c potency, and the higher potencies, there is nothing left of the physical substance of which the homeopathic remedy is made from, in this case Cuprum metallicum. It is the energetic pattern of the substance. This process is called potentization. This is the Minimum Dose that Dr. Samuel Hahnemann developed in the late 1790’s, another principle of homeopathy.

Koper (Cuprum metallicum) - copper                               12 Cuprum

Copper                                                                                    A vial of Cuprum metallicum 12C

During Hahemann’s time, many of the medicinal substances used were poisons, actually it is still like that today. Hahnemann found that by making the dose as small as possible, as mentioned in the above paragraph, the medicinal substance was curative and healing; the patient lived and didn’t die from the treatment. The healing was gentle with no side affects or toxicity.

To answer the question again, the homeopathic remedy Cuprum metallicum, or any other other homeopathic remedy, is safe. You want to be respectful of the homeopathic remedies. Use them with good judgement. That is why it is good to see a professional homeopath.
