The homeopathic remedy Arnica Montana is often people’s first introduction to homeopathy. Many mothers use it for their children. Athletes may use it. And I have heard that cosmetic surgeons and dentists often recommend Arnica Montana after there has been a surgical procedure. (You may want to look at my post on recovery after a Caesarian section.)
Arnica Montana is a wonderful homeopathic remedy for any kind of trauma situation that occurs to the body. Traumas can be falls, surgeries, accidents, and blows. There is a feeling of soreness and bruising. Often the person may say, “I am fine”. There can be swelling and puffiness. The formation of ecchymosis may occur – black and blue areas. Ecchymosis is a bruise, contusion or a dark area on the skin, made by blood which has escaped into the tissues after a blow. This is really the body’s way of healing itself when there has been trauma. Arnica Montana helps in the reduction of these symptoms, and eases the feeling of soreness, pain and bruising.
The homeopathic remedy Arnica Montana is made from the Arnica Montana plant that grows on mountains in high altitude areas. The two small vials shown here are what you may find in the store.
Here are a couple of examples when Arnica Montana was used:
- A patient of mine used it after having a procedure to remove a skin growth on her nose. The area was sore, slightly puffy and the checks started to get a yellowish tinge to them. She was using Tylenol to help with the pain. But after starting to use Arnica Montana, she noticed that the soreness was less, the swelling and puffiness was going down, and the yellowish area was fading.
- Another patient used Arnica Montana after having teeth fillings replaced. She was feeling a deep soreness in her teeth, gums and jaw as the result of having experienced a lot of drilling. Arnica Montana relieved the pain completely. She used the remedy several times a day for several days and/or when needed.
Often people use this remedy in a self help and first aid situation. It is always good though, to see a practitioner of homeopathy if there are serious or longer lasting symptoms that you are experiencing.
