Wanting To Feel Better – Healing With Homeopathy Instead Of Antibiotics

We become sick. We want to feel better, as soon as we can. We go to our doctors. They may give us a prescription for an antibiotic. We feel better that something is being done, although the situation may not have really called for antibiotics, or the antibiotics didn’t help.

In the February 1, 2016 issue of THE SAN DIEGO UNION-TRIBUNE, Paul Sisson wrote an article on antibiotics titled Rules Urge Doctors To Rein In Antibiotics. The article talked blowing noseparticularly about the use of antibiotics for severe coughs, sore throats, nasal congestion, sinus pain and colds. Ear aches/ear infections could be added to the list. The main premise of the article was for these kinds of health conditions, antibiotics are not necessarily needed, although they are prescribed very often for them. An excerpt from the article is below. You can read the entire article here.

Please know that there is a time and a place for antibiotics in which they are very useful.

Healing With Homeopathy

We always want to feel better. And we want our health practitioner to lead us on that path. There are other means than antibiotics that can be used when someone is not feeling well.

The healing process and ability of our bodies works so wonderfully well. When we listen to our bodies, take the rest that we need, nourish our bodies with good food and water, exercise, and nurture ourselves by doing activities that we love, our bodies heal well. It is when we are not moving through a health concern – such as a severe cough, a sore throat, nasal congestion, ear aches and infections, colds and more – that we may need help. Homeopathy is very helpful and healing in these situations. These health issues may be a one time occurrence or a chronic situation, in which flare ups are experienced regularly.

Homeopathy works with the body’s innate ability to heal. The individual person is addressed. Seeing, listening, witnessing how the person experiences what bothers them –  how they experience their cough, their sore throat, their nasal congestion, their ear ache or their cold. It is learning about this person – the totality of this person.

Some People Who Have Benefited From Homeopathic Care

Patients who were helped with homeopathy:

  • A little boy who had recurring nasal congestion and possible ear infections. He had taken several rounds of antibiotics. The homeopathic remedy, which was similar to him, helped with the nasal congestion and the ear infections. He didn’t need to take another course of antibiotics. And the remedy has continued to help, when he has become ill or has not felt well. He hasn’t had another ear infection.
  • A boy who had a severe sore throat, took a homeopathic remedy soon after the sore throat had started to bother him. The sore throat subsided, and he was feeling much better within a couple of days.
  • A man who found it difficult to breath and had used antibiotics for the recurring nasal congestion, did very well with the homeopathic remedy that fit him. His nasal congestion cleared up and he was able to breath easier.
  • A woman who had not felt well for several weeks, was experiencing a sore throat. She said the pain was all the time, and her throat felt very raw. She thought of going to Urgent Care, where she probably would have been proscribed antibiotics, instead she used homeopathy, and she was feeling better.

Excerpt From the Article Rules Urge Doctors To Rein In Antibiotics

“The latest guidelines make specific recommendations for some of the most common reasons people see their doctors:

Severe coughs bring an estimated 100 million people into physician waiting rooms annually. Although 90 percent of those cases are bronchitis, which is airway inflammation caused by a virus, 70 percent of such patients nationwide receive antibiotic prescriptions, according to the CDC. The new guidelines call for antibiotics only if pneumonia, which is often caused by bacteria in the lungs, is suspected.

Sore throats are responsible for 12 million visits each year. Although the cause is usually viral, antibiotics are prescribed at “most visits,” according to the CDC. The streptococcus bacteria is the most likely cause of a sore throat, and the new guidelines call for a positive strep test before prescribing antibiotics.

Nasal and sinus congestion result in about 4.3 million visits annually. Most sinusitis cases start out with a viral infection, but obstructed sinuses can, over time, lead to a secondary bacterial infection in less than 2 percent of cases. There is no simple test to tell whether the infection is viral or bacterial, and the CDC recommends that doctors wait at least 10 days before prescribing antibiotics unless the patient has a fever higher than 102.2 degrees, particularly nasty nasal discharge, facial pain that lasts for more than three consecutive days or illness that improves and then worsens.

The common cold, which is always caused by a range of viruses, is responsible for 37 million visits per year. Even though experts agree that antibiotics should never be given for a cold, they are prescribed in about 30 percent of cases, according to the CDC.

The new guidelines put doctors in the position of requiring patients, who are already wheezing, sniffling and aching, to forgo a treatment they may be convinced will help them get better. While this might seem a difficult task for physicians to achieve, experts said much progress has already been made.”

Recurring Health Concerns

This past week, I had a call from a father about his 3 month old baby daughter. He has had experience with homeopathy before having taken his older child to see a homeopath. He told me that his little baby daughter was not feeling well. She had had a cold several weeks ago, was better, but now she was not feeling well again. She wasn’t running a fever, and he didn’t think that she was in pain. He said she was irritable.

I was thinking that maybe her irritability was an expression of some sort of pain or discomfort. Obviously, she wasn’t feeling well. Babies and small children don’t tell us through words how they are feeling, but through sounds, behaviors, actions, movements, changes in moods and temperaments. This baby was expressing something through her irritability.

Unfortunately, the father cancelled the appointment he had made with me for his daughter. He told me that they had taken her to see a doctor, who said that it was a cold. The father decided to not pursue homeopathic care, at this time. I said, if the cold continues, or if it returns, it would be a good idea to bring your daughter in for homeopathic care, since she already has been experiencing a recurrence of this, and we don’t want that to continue.

People I Speak To

gumby sickWhen I talk to people either in person or on the phone, they tell me about their particular health concern. I hear all sorts of things, such as the person is experiencing pains and discomforts in their feet. They have an extremely itchy rash or eczema eruption. Breathing is difficult for them. The get very anxious in some situations. There are feelings of sadness or depression. They don’t sleep well. During their menstrual cycle certain symptoms come up. They are extremely fearful and/or have nightmares. They have ongoing headaches, stomachaches, or digestive issues. I hear all sorts of things. The person is not feeling well, and they want to feel better.

Recurring Health Concern

Their health concern is often something that has been going on for a awhile, or it had gone away and now it is recurring again. They have periodic flare ups of it. They are not feeling better from the type of treatment they are using for their health concern, and they want to feel better.

In a previous post, I wrote about a young boy who had recurring congestion, fevers and ear infections. The boy had taken several courses of antibiotics. Each time, he would be better for a month or so, and then the whole situation would happen again. The homeopathic remedy that fit him, that was similar to what he was experiencing, helped him to heal this recurrence of the ear infections, the fevers, and the congestion. He has done well.

Often when there is a recurring health concern, the treatment being used helps to ease and to palliate when there is an outbreak or flare up. This treatment helps the person feel better for the time being, but doesn’t heal the health concern. The person needs to continue taking the medication to feel better, often accepting that these recurrences will happen again, and again.

Does this sound like you?

Healing With Homeopathy

Homeopathy heals at the root cause of what is bothering the person. It is a deep healing. As the person heals, the recurrences and flare ups become less and less, till they no longer happen at all. It is a healing. With the young boy I wrote of, I had thought there might be a recurrence of the ear infection as he was healing, but there wasn’t. The cycle was broken. With an adult, the stopping of the cycle may take longer to happen than with this young boy, since the adult has had this health concern for a longer period of time. But the cycle does end.

I invite you to see how homeopathy can help a recurring health concern that you have. Either contact me here, through this blog or through my website www.homeopathytoheal.com. I offer a 15 minute complimentary Get Acquainted Call. I would be happy to talk with you about your health concern and/or a loved one.

Antibioics Not Healing Ear Infections, Sinusitis, and Allergies – Homeopathy Heals

Over the past week, several people have mentioned to me that they, or their child, are suffering either with chronic ear infections, chronic sinusitis, or allergies. Antibiotics has been the form of treatment that most of them have been using, and actually, many courses of antibiotics have been prescribed, lasting 3 months, 8 months or longer. And the person is not feeling better. The symptoms may have subsided, for a time, but they have returned. There has been no healing.

I believe that people want to feel better, and parents want their child to feel better. When someone has gone through several courses of antibiotics, and there has been no healing, it is time to look to homeopathy for a deep healing. Actually, I want to say, come to homeopathy, first.

Coming To Homeopathy

The homeopath will want to know how the person is experiencing what is bothering them – the discomfort, the pain, the  discharges, the emotional state, the dreams, the fears, how what bothers them affects them, when it started, how often does it come up, what is the problem in having this and more. Through listening, observation, asking some questions, and talking to the parents if it is a child, information is gathered that is specific to this person. This gives the homeopath an understanding of how the ear infection, the sinusitis or the allergy is for this person.                                                                 One-size-does-not-fit-all 2

The homeopathic remedy that is given fits this person, fits YOU  (Like Cures Like), and is healing for YOU. It is not a homeopathic remedy for the ear infection, sinusitis, or allergy. It is not a one size fits all treatment, which is common in western medicine. It is a healing.

I am happy to talk more if you or a loved one is experiencing an ongoing ear infection, sinusitis or allergy. Either contact me here on the blog post or through my website www.homeopathytoheal.com.

Overuse of Antibiotics May Be A Cause of Peanut Allergies

Over the years, we have read how there has been an overuse of antibiotics, especially for children who are experiencing earaches. And we have seen an increase in children developing an allergy to peanuts. This allergy can be life threatening. I recently came across a video and an article on Katie Couric World 3D that ties together the overuse of antibiotics and allergies to peanuts.  Very simply, the overuse of antibiotics has killed certain bacteria in the gut that is useful in the digestion of peanuts. Below is the article and video (4 minutes long) for you to read and view. I want to let you know that the article and video are disturbing.

button I am allergic to peanuts

There definitely is a place for antibiotics in our health care.  But often, we hear of children being proscribed course after course of antibiotics for an ear infection, and the child is not any better.  It may have started out as an acute ear infection or on going earaches, but with the use of the antibiotics, it has become a more chronic condition. Homeopathy can be very helpful for acute and chronic earaches and ear infections.

If your child does have an allergy to peanuts, it is important to continue the care with their physician and avoid any foods with peanuts in them. In addition, you may want to look at homeopathy. Homeopathy may lessen the allergic reaction as the child’s immune system is strengthened and brought back to a more balanced state.

Researcher Claims Food Allergies Could Be Caused By Antibiotics

By Gabe Noble

Giovanni Cipriano was an ordinary 14-year-old high school freshman who had a passion for baseball and had just made the honor roll. One quiet night, as he snacked on trail mix and watched a movie with his mother, his throat began to incessantly itch. Unbeknown to Giovanni and his mother, there were peanuts in the mix, which he had been allergic to since he was 18 months old. His mother gave him a double dose of Benadryl and frantically rushed to the hospital.

“I took his hand and I said, ‘Don’t worry, we’re here.’ And when I grabbed his hand, he was cold and his body was blue,” Giovanni’s mother, Georgina told Yahoo News and Finance Anchor Bianna Golodryga from her home in Long Island, NY. The anaphylactic reaction led to a coma, and he died several weeks later.

Giovanni was one of the 6 million children in the United States who suffer from food allergies, an alarming number that has nearly tripled in the past two decades. Dr. Martin Blaser, a microbiologist and professor at New York University, is working tirelessly on groundbreaking research into this dramatic spike in food allergies. His hypothesis is that exposure to antibiotics early in life is diminishing positive gut bacteria and thus weakening children’s immune systems, making them more susceptible to allergies. Blaser warns parents: “Antibiotics are not free, they do have a cost. And it is not just monetary but in the development of the immunity in children.”

Blaser’s theory has been tested on young mice and while his research is still a work in progress, the results so far are positive and he hopes could lead to a cure for food allergies.

Note: An earlier version of this story indicated that the peanut allergy in mice had been eliminated by Dr. Blaser’s experiment. The doctor clarified by saying while that is the goal of his work “We have no experiment that shows that we can turn around the immunological findings that we have observed.”

STRESS and Homeopathy

Stress is a word we hear and use often in describing how we feel or what is happening in our lives. We say things like:

  • I feel stressed.
  • That was so stressful.
  • I need to get control over the stress in my life.
  • This stress will make me sick.
  • Stress will kill me.
  • Here is how to avoid stress.
  • How you can I be stress free?
  • You/this stress(es) me out!

These all sound as if stress is outside of us, as if it is its own entity doing something to us. And as long as we take care of this outside source of stress, we won’t have it anymore.

It is true that stress is outside of us. But it isn’t doing something to us. There will always be stress, because stress is living life – things happen.  Loss of a loved one, loss of a job, financial concerns, changes in the family, divorce, illness  – these are just some of the stresses we experience. It could also be an emotional slight. We all have our own sensitivities.

Stress is how we respond to life, to what is happening to us. So it is outside of us. But it is how we are responding to what is happening. This response manifests in symptoms or states of being. In a way, it is our default mechanism, our robotic mode, that we go to when things happen in our lives. It is how we respond when something happens to us. Each person is different in their response.

stress 1

If you think about, or observe how you are feeling and thinking during stressful times of your life, what comes up? Are there particular physical complaints? Are there emotional symptoms? Mental symptoms ? Do you have the need to fix it right away? Do you go into an avoidance mode? Do you panic? Do you blame others? Blame yourself? Do you become angry? Fearful? Start to cry? This may be your automatic response.

Here are some of the symptoms or responses that people may experience:

Some physical responses could be: headaches, stomachaches, digestive issues, diarrhea, constipation, skin eruptions, eczema, difficulty sleeping, nightmares, no appetite, binge eating, pains in limbs, muscular twitches, frequent colds and infections, breathing difficulties and asthma, styes, cold sores, fatigue, changes in a women’s menstrual cycle, restlessness and more.

Emotional symptoms could be: anxiousness, depression, fears, anger, sadness, revenge, why me?, tearful, dread, loss of confidence, fussiness, irritability, apathy, alienation and isolation, apprehension, worrying, negative thoughts, impulsiveness and more.

Mental symptoms could be: difficulty concentrating, unable to focus, memory loss, difficulty retrieving words, impaired judgment, muddled thinking, indecisiveness, hasty decisions, prone to accidents and more.

Behaviors: changes in ones’ sex drive, drinking more, smoking more, binge eating, using drugs, taking more medication and more.

*****

With the healing from homeopathy, there is a quieting and lessening of the automatic responses, the symptoms and the reactions.  So when someone again experiences a stressful situation, their responses or symptoms may be less severe, not last as long, or not be there at all. For example, someone who gets headaches, may have milder headaches; someone who gets diarrhea may not have it as often; and someone who gets panic attacks may not feel panicky at all.  The situation will be still happening, and it is stressful, but the person will be able to handle it better, and not experience their automatic responses and symptoms.  This would be a good healing.

As a note, we don’t often say that a child is stressed. They are, but we don’t use the word stress when talking about children. There may be situations that they have no control over, such as abuse and mistreatment. The birth may have been difficult and resulted in some physical disability.  Behaviors and symptoms on the autistic spectrum may have developed. I want to say that everything that I  have written in this blog also applies to children. We will see in children physical symptoms, certain behaviors, fears, difficulties in school, learning challenges, nightmares, and more. Homeopathy helps with this.

Who Comes To Homeopathy

Who comes to homeopathy?

A mom concerned about her children’s health –  asthmatic symptoms, difficulty sleeping, nightmares, chronic earaches, headaches or stomachaches, behavior issues

A woman who has difficulty with her menstrual cycle –  PMS, menopause, fertility issues, heavy periods, depression, anxiety, insomnia, hot flashes

A man who has a skin eruption that he doesn’t want anyone to see – eczema, psoriasis, constant itching, redness

All sorts of people come to homeopathy, for all sorts of reasons.

I think the main reason, is that the person is not doing better despite using other healing modalities. The person has come to the point that now they want to feel better, to BE better.

Homeopathy heals. It heals at the core of where the symptoms are coming from.

What brought the person to homeopathy is better, as well as the person having a general sense of well being.

Homeopathy – Healing Children

Homeopathy is wonderful for children’s health care.  Whether the child is experiencing ongoing health issues or acute colds and stomachaches, homeopathy is very helpful. In the healing with homeopathy, the immune system of the child is strengthened, so the health issue is not occurring as much and finally lessens all together.

Some ongoing health concerns that children experience:

  • Chronic ear infections
  • Asthma
  • Eczema or other skin eruptions
  • Allergies
  • Behavioral issues
  • ADD/ADHD – see post on ADD/ADHD
  • Autism spectrum
  • Stomachaches
  • Constipation
  • Diarrhea
  • Difficulty sleeping and nightmares
  • Fears
  • Coughs
  • Headaches
  • Recurring colds, sore throats
  • Childhood disease – measles, chicken pox, mumps, whooping cough, German measles.

I would like to tell you about a patient of mine who I have seen for several years. When he first came to me, he was eight years old. When Joe (not his real name) was playing baseball, he would experience the need to cough when he stopped running. Joe said, “It is weird to have so much mucus in my throat. Coughing gets more mucus. I stop coughing and the mucus goes away.” His mother had taken Joe to the doctor who had suggested using an inhaler for the cough. His mother did not want to do that. She had used homeopathy before, and wanted to see how homeopathy could help Joe.

Joe talked about feeling scared at night when he heard noises in the house. “There could be burglars. If I knew what it was, it wouldn’t be so scary. You can get taken. I would have to scream and kick around. The person doing that would not like it.” His mother said that during the evening, Joe would frequently get out of bed to ask her about the sounds, as well as asking when his father was coming home, if his father was away on a business trip. His mother would give an explanation, but Joe would be back again asking about the noises. His mother described Joe as needing a lot of reassurance, and being very cautious. She said that he checks first with an adult, and then does whatever he was going to do. He doesn’t answer the phone because it might be someone he doesn’t know.

On car trips, Joe gets extremely carsick. He also is sensitive to the heat. His head and stomach hurt, he feels dizzy, and he throws up. He gets very upset when friends pretend they will hit him and then stop. “It is unfair and mean.” To him, it is a huge thing. He can’t let it go.

After taking the homeopathic remedy that was most similar to what he was experiencing, Joe was not coughing after running, and the sensation of mucus in his throat was gone. In fact, when visiting the doctor after the first dose of the remedy, the doctor could no longer hear anything in his lungs. Joe was falling asleep easier at night, and was not getting up at night to ask questions. He was no longer experiencing carsickness, and his sensitivity to the heat also decreased. And when Joe and his family were vacationing in Hawaii, every morning Joe went up to the the desk clerk and asked for the sports section of the newspaper.

boy running and playing baseball

Over the years, Joe has had doses of the homeopathic remedy when it was needed. Sometimes, his sensitivity to heat has come back, or other acute situations have occurred. This is when a dose was given. He has though no longer experienced the coughing and the sensation of mucus in his throat.  Homeopathy heals the whole person. With Joe, the mucus in the throat and the coughing were better, as well as other aspects of him, his emotional state and other physical symptoms.  Homeopathy heals the person.

What Brings Someone to Homeopathy?

What brings someone to homeopathy? Who comes to see a homeopath?

In my practice, I see more women than men. And usually if I am seeing a family, I see the children and not the mother.

Someone comes to homeopathy after they have tried other healing therapies, western medicine and alternative medicines included. The person is not feeling better, even though he or she may be taking medication which alleviates the symptoms for a period of time, and then they need to take another dose of the medication. The person still experiences flare ups and episodes of their health condition.

I think mothers who have become uncomfortable with how western medicine treats their children start looking into homeopathy. It is usually a process for the mother.  They may not be comfortable with using medication for ADD/ADHD type of symptoms, and actually may be experiencing pressure for their children to go on medication from outside sources. They want to get off the merry go round of antibiotic use for ear infections or cortisone creams for eczema, since they are not seeing that their child is doing any better. There may be other reasons that have brought a mother to homeopathy.

Why not then come first to homeopathy? Perhaps, it is because people really don’t know what homeopathy is, and what it offers in terms of healing.  That is part of why I started this blog: to educate, to provide information, to answer questions, and to promote homeopathy.

To ask you, who are reading this blog, what would bring you to the point of seeking out homeopathy as a form of your health care?
