Seeing How The Person Sees It

Brene Brown – “In order to empathize with someone’s experience you must be willing to believe them as they see it and not how you imagine their experience to be. “

*******

This quote resonated with me. My intention when I meet with a patient is to see, hear, observe, witness, understand (not intellectually), and listen to how “they see it, (their experience)”.  “To believe them” is to see them. Maybe this is empathy. I don’t know. Dr. Samuel Hahnemann, the founder of homeopathy,sunflower-7303819_960_720 wrote in THE ORGANON, that when being with the patient the practitioner is “the unprejudiced observer”.

As a homeopathic practitioner, I am seeing the patient’s world, their reality. I want to know how it is for them. This guides me to the selection of the homeopathic remedy that is needed.

I often say: tell me more; what was that, (if they made a gesture); what does that feel like in your body; how does that feel or felt; why; what is the experience or sensation of that. I am wanting to know more.

My job is to witness where the person is living. To see them.

Expressing

People express themselves using words, gestures, movements of their body, sounds they make, dislikes and likes, interests, dreams, fear and more.

I work with people who are verbal and non verbal, such as babies, children or adults. (Animals too.) These patients are telling me about themselves, not through words necessarily, but through their actions and their behaviors. It observe. It is part of their totality.

Such as:

  • How a child moves around my consultation room. Going under my desk. Being behind a chair. Moving all over the room. Going into the closet and closing the door. Standing behind their mother when first entering the room.
  • Movement of head or part of the body.
  • Needing support to hold up their head.
  • Covering their eyes, ears or both, with hands or with clothes or muffs.
  • Making a sound.

I receive calls from people asking for help for many different health issues. They feel frustrated, stuck and tired of not feeling well. They are wanting to know how homeopathy can help them.

I invite you to contact me either through this blog or through my website www.homeopathytoheal.com.  I offer a complimentary 15 + minute Get Acquainted Call to see if this is fit for you. I work with people virtually and in person in and out of the San Diego area.

What a Homeopath Does – Aphorism # 3 of the The Organon

What does a homeopath do?

Dr. Samuel Hahnemann, the German physician who developed homeopathy describes what a homeopath does in Aphorism #3 of THE ORGANON. (The picture included here is of Wenda Brewster O’Reilly’s translation of Dr. Samuel Hahnemann’s THE ORGANON.)

Aphorism #3                                                                                             the organon

“To be a genuine practitioner of the medical art, a physician must:

1. clearly realize what is to be cured in diseases, that is, in each single case of disease (discernment of the disease, indicator),

2. clearly realize what is curative in medicines, that is, in each particular medicine (knowledge of medicinal powers),

3. be aware of how to adapt what is curative in medicines to what he has discerned to be undoubtedly disease in the patient, according to clear principles.”

What Does A Homeopath Do?

The homeopath sees, understands, observes, listens, witnesses the patient’s suffering. Giving space for the patient. From this, the homeopath knows what the suffering is and what needs to be cured in the patient. This is “discernment of the disease powers”.

The homeopath knows the homeopathic medicines. Knows their curative and healing actions. This is “knowledge of medicinal powers”.

With knowing and understanding both the suffering of the patient and the homeopathic medicines, the homeopath matches a homeopathic medicine to that of the suffering of the patient. The main principle of homeopathy is Like Cures Like or the Law of Similars. Homeopathy means similar (homeo) suffering (pathy). This is “according to clear principles”.

Homeopathy is Healing

Each person is seen as the unique individual they are. The homeopath is witnessing the patient’s symptoms, their complaints and their suffering; understanding what their experience of the suffering is for them; and giving the homeopathic medicine that is similar to this.

Homeopathy is simple. Homeopathy is elegant. Homeopathy is healing.

I am always happy to speak with anyone about their suffering and how the homeopathic medicine that is similar to their suffering will be healing for them.
