Putting Together The Jigsaw Puzzle Of You

I have noticed lately that I am again using the analogy of a jigsaw puzzle, when I am talking to someone about homeopathy, and what happens when they come in for homeopathic care. I wrote about putting together a jigsaw puzzle in an early post, which you can read here. I want to share this thought again.

What I Am Saying Now

This is what I am saying to a patient: It is as if we are doing a jigsaw puzzle together. You are giving me the pieces – what you are experiencing, what your symptoms are like, why they bother you, your past puzzle-colorful pieceshistory, your dreams, your fears, your emotions, and more.

We do not have a finished picture of what it will look like to guide us as we are putting the pieces together. We don’t have a picture on the box cover.

I love this analogy of the jigsaw puzzle. I love it because we, the patient and I, are doing this process together. We are witnessing what bothers them, together. It is a joint endeavor.

Jigsaw Puzzle

Sometimes, I don’t get all the pieces of the puzzle at one time. I may get some at the first appointment, and then more at subsequent appointments. It is a process, a process of putting together the puzzle. We start with one homeopathic remedy. And often, another one or several will be needed, as a deeper and fuller picture emerges. I believe that each homeopathic remedy that is used, is helpful in its own right. It may open up or remove a layer, so we, the patient and I, can witness more of what is going with the person.

A Patient

There is a patient I have been working with for about 10  months. She has done veryrose-3430964__340 well with homeopathy. She had originally come to homeopathy for fibromyalgia and chronic fatigue type of symptoms. Recently I saw her, and we went a little deeper into her feelings of anxiety and fear. When I looked back on the first meeting we had together, something she had said at that time about feeling paralyzed really fit the picture now. I hadn’t quite understood it before, but now it made more sense.  This is a good example of the homeopathic process, and of putting the puzzle pieces together.
