Homeopathy Is Helpful To Use Before, During And After Pregnancy

Recently, a patient of mine asked me if one can use homeopathy when pregnant, and then she said she was pregnant. I said, yes, it is fine, and it is safe. I congratulated her, telling her how wonderful it is that she is pregnant. And that, it is a good time to do homeopathy when she is pregnant because it will help both her, and her baby.

Homeopathy Is Helpful For Moms, And Dads, – Before Pregnancy, During Pregnancy, And After Pregnancy.

By both parents, the mom and the dad, receiving homeopathic care before the pregnancy, they will also be helping the health of their future children. pregnant womanMany times in families, there are tendencies and susceptibilities towards certain health conditions that are then passed down from one generation to another. Often, people will say, asthma runs in my family, or eczema, or allergies, or depression, or as I have heard lately thyroid conditions. People will say my mother had this, or my grandfather, or my father. A tendency or susceptibility doesn’t mean that someone will definitely develop this particular health issue in the future, but they may be more prone to developing it than other people who do not have this tendency in their families. Having homeopathic treatment before pregnancy, and during pregnancy, lessens these tendencies and susceptibilities, so that they are not passed down to the next generation. Instead, it is like passing down an immunity. For couples who are thinking and planning on having a family, having homeopathic care is a good idea.

Focusing On The Mother

It is safe to use homeopathy when a woman is pregnant, The woman may be already coming in for homeopathy to help with some health concern she is experiencing, and becomes pregnant during this time, like the patient I mentioned. Or a woman may start homeopathic care because she has a health concern, and is also thinking about becoming pregnant in the near future, whether for the first time, or she already has children. Or a woman is already pregnant, and wants help with a particular health concern that has come up during the pregnancy. These are all good reasons to come to homeopathy.

Usually, a particular health issue is what bought the woman in to homeopathy, (and the dad too, if he also comes in). In addition to this concern, the homeopath also wants to know about the whole of the woman – other concerns she may have, what is stress like for her, how she experiences what bothers her, her dreams, her fears, and more. A homeopathic remedy is given that is similar (Law of Similars or Like Cures Like).to what the woman is experiencing, to the wholeness of her. The homeopathic remedy stimulates her own healing process. The vital force or immune system is strengthened – the health issue is better, and she is feeling better in herself. And this helps the baby as well.

Some Health Concerns That Women Experience

Homeopathy is helpful for women before pregnancy, during pregnancy, during the delivery, postpartum, and helpful for health issues that the baby may experience. It is important to receive prenatal care from a health practitioner – ob/gyn, midwife, nurse practitioner, osteopath, and/or others. Homeopathy can be used along with this care.

Here are some of the health concerns that may bring a woman to homeopathy before, during and after pregnancy:

  • morning sickness
  • extreme fatigue
  • sleeping issues
  • chronic colds, coughs, flus
  • increased blood sugars
  • increase in blood pressure
  • skin eruptions – acne, rashes, eczema, psoriasis
  • urinary tract infections
  • emotional issues – fears, anxiousness, depression, grief
  • exasperation of an ongoing health issue  – allergies, asthma, headaches, migraines
  • postpartum depression
  • labor issues
  • recovery from vaginal births and caesarean sections
  • breastfeeding issues
  • health of the baby
  • more

Healing With Homeopathy

During pregnancies, there is the concern of safety to the baby. Homeopathic remedies are safe to use when pregnant, and when nursing the baby. There are no side effects, and the homeopathic remedies are non-toxic. The homeopathic remedy given to the woman is addressing her, her particular health concerns and how she experiences them. This puts the woman into a more healthful state, and the baby as well.  I often say that during a pregnancy, the baby and the mom share the same state.

Benefits of Homeopathic Treatment – Healthy Mother and Baby

I received an email from Narayana Publishers a few days ago, announcing the edition of their newest issue of SPECTRUM OF HOMEOPATHY, a homeopathic publication. The title of this new issue is NEW LIFE-PERINATAL HOMEOPATHY. This particular issue writes up cases of babies and young children who were experiencing different physical and emotional symptoms, such as colic, restlessness at night, difficulty breastfeeding, ear problems, not sleeping well, failure to thrive, eczema and more. Part of the case taking or case uncovering process of these babies and children was to hear about how the mother was before and during her pregnancy. This helped the homeopaths to come to the homeopathic medicine that was most similar to what the baby or child were experiencing.

Since I had mentioned how the state of the mother can affect the baby in two of my posts, I wanted to give you the link to this publication. My two posts are: “Homeopathy: Supporting A Woman Through a Caesarian Birth and Recovery” and “Colic – Homeopathy Can Ease the Discomfort”.  Very often, the mother and the baby may be experiencing the same state during the pregnancy. Homeopathy can be so helpful for both the mother and the baby. And even more helpful, is the mother deciding to have homeopathic treatment before she gets pregnant. Possibly the father as well.

Here is the link. Once on the site, click on NEW LIFE-PERINATAL HOMEOPATHY, and then scroll down to “interactive reading excerpt”, and you can read some of this issue online.

Homeopathy – Safe to Use When Breastfeeding

I noticed that some people who had viewed my blog recently were wondering if it is safe to use homeopathy while breastfeeding.  I think there were concerns about using homeopathic remedies in the pellet form as well as in the form of topical creams. Yes, it is safe to use homeopathy orally and topically when breastfeeding. In my post “Supporting Women through Caesarian Sections and Recovery”, I did mention it was safe to use homeopathy while breastfeeding.

I know breastfeeding mothers are very concerned about their diet, and don’t want to eat any foods that could affect their baby, especially foods that cause gas and colic in their baby. There are some western medications that are not safe to use when the mother is breastfeeding. This was probably discussed with the mother and her physician before, during and after the pregnancy. Using homeopathic remedies during  pregnancy is also safe.

Homeopathy is very helpful for the health concerns that mothers and their children experience.  Often, it is when a woman starts her family, that she turns to homeopathy for help with colds, coughs, earaches, stomachaches, colic, teething and other things that come up. I will have more about how homeopathy is helpful in these kinds of situations in further blogs.

Homeopathy: Supporting a Woman Through a Caesarian Birth and Recovery

I wrote this article for the January 2013 issue of Natural Baby Pros, an online magazine. This issue was focusing on Caesarian sections. Their link is http://www.naturalbabypros.com

The article link is https://www.naturalbabypros.com/learn/140-article-library/912-homeopathy-supporting-a-woman-through-a-caesarian-birth-and-recovery

——————————————————————————————————————-

There are many scenarios resulting in a Caesarian section. Some are planned due to choice or a physical concern.  And some are the result of an emergency situation and not planned. In any scenario, the woman still goes through trauma and a healing process afterwards. Healing always takes time. Homeopathy can help with the trauma and the healing that is experienced with a Caesarian section.

Homeopathy is a system of medicine that was developed by the German physician Samuel Hahnemann in the late 1700’s. During the mid 1800’s to the early 1900’s, homeopathy was widely used in the United States, and is presently experiencing a resurgence in the United States. In addition, homeopathy is extensively practiced in England, Europe, South America, India and other parts of the world.

Homeopathy looks at each person as unique. How a woman experiences having a Caesarian section is unique to her. For example, one woman may find that it is the physical symptoms that bother her the most, such as feeling sore and bruised; tired and fatigued; concern about scarring; or breastfeeding issues. Another woman may experience the trauma more on an emotional level, feeling angry, disappointed, or let down that the birth was not as she had planned.  Again, this is showing how individual and unique we all are.

The homeopathic practitioner or homeopath takes the time to listen and to observe what it is that bothers the woman, and what it is like for her. This could be the type of pain; how often the pain is; her emotional responses to what has happened and is happening; dreams; fears and more. All of this information guides the homeopath in selecting a homeopathic remedy that is most similar to what it is that the woman is experiencing. Simply, it is matching the state of the woman to a  homeopathic remedy. This is the main principle of homeoapthy – The Law of Similars or Like Cures Like. The given homeopathic remedy stimulates the woman’s own healing process.

Here are some of the concerns that a woman may be experiencing after having a Caesarian section:

  • Scarring
  • Pains and discomfort from the surgery
  • Pains and discomfort from labor, if the mother also experienced labor
  • Emotional state – fear, anger, let down, disappointment, weepy, depression
  • Exhaustion/fatigue
  • Bleeding
  • Breastfeeding issues
  • The health of the baby

There are homeopathic remedies that are very useful in first aid situations, Caesarian section included. Below is a list of some of them. It is safe to use homeopathic remedies while nursing. Only use one remedy at a time. Sometimes, the state of the woman may change and another  remedy will be needed as the healing progresses.

HOMEOPATHIC REMEDIES

State of mother:

  • Staphysagria – mother feels resentful, angry and let down. May feel as if she had been assaulted.
  • Pulsatilla – weepy, clingy, wanting to be with others. After pains from delivery.
  • Aconite – shock and fear. Feel that she will die.

Trauma from the surgery.  Injured feeling. Aches, pains, bruising, swelling, contusions and inflammations:

  • Arnica Montana – very useful remedy for any kind of trauma and injury.
  • Bellis Perennis – usually used for injuries on the trunk of the body or if Arnica did not help.

Pains in the sacrum or coccyx after an epidural has been given or when forceps were used:

  • Hypericum – remedy that helps in areas that are rich with nerves, such as the fingertips, toes and tailbone (coccyx), tongue, teeth, eyes, and genitalia.

Severe pains in the tissues that have been torn or cut during delivery or from episiotomies or Caesarian section. helpful for the healing of the Caesarian scar:

  • Staphysagria – helps in post-surgical pain (see above).
  • Calendula – helps with healing of cuts, wounds, scratches, abrasions, incisions and scrapes. It works as an antiseptic and prevents serious infection. Also in a cream used topically for wounds, incisions, etc.
  • Hypericum – helps in injuries, such as contusions, lacerations, punctures in areas that are rich in nerves.

If received general anesthesia:

  • Phosphorous – having prolonged symptoms of nausea, sleepiness, and/or just out of it after having come out of the anesthesia.

Breastfeeding:

  • Belladonna – breasts are engorged. throbbing pains, red streaks, breasts feel hot. There may be a fever.
  • Byronia – engorged breasts. stitching pains. Breasts are pale and hard. Worse from an kind of movement. Very irritable.
  • Castor equi – nipples are sore and cracked.
  • China – anemic. Exhaustion from breastfeeding.
  • Phytolacca – nipples are cracked. Milk ducts are blocked. Lumpy breast. Abscess/mastitis.

Strained muscles, tendons or joints.

  • Rhus tox – sore when first starting to move, but once moving feels better
  • Ruta grav – good for muscle and tendon strains.

It is always important to see a trained homeopath if any health concern or condition continues. If may also be beneficial to see a homeopath before a woman gets pregnant or during her pregnancy. Sometimes, the underlying health state that a woman experiences before getting pregnant may affect how the pregnancy proceeds and what happens during the delivery, perhaps resulting in an emergency Caesarian section. Homeopathy is very helpful in these kinds of situations. Homeopathy is treating the whole person, and when the woman is in a more healthy state, the possibility of the baby, the pregnancy, and the delivery being healthier and going smoothly increases.
