Homeopathy, Helping A Baby In Breech Position

This is a happy story.

Along with doing other forms of medicine, homeopathy was helpful in turning a baby that was in a breech position, and resulting in a normal, vaginal delivery.

A Happy Story

A woman, who I had met in one of my classes, was pregnant with her second child. Her first child had been in breech position, and did not turn before delivery. A c-section was done. With this present pregnancy, the mother did not want to have another c-section, for many reasons.

The mother contacted me about a month after the class, and said that this baby was in breech infantposition. She wanted to do homeopathy to help. She had done some reading, and mentioned the homeopathic remedy Pulsatilla, which often can be helpful when a baby is in breech position.

I suggested she come in for an appointment, and let’s see if Pulsatilla fits her (is similar to her), or possibly another homeopathic remedy would be better. She was very much in a Pulsatilla state.  And we did use Pulsatilla. The baby did not turn.

Several weeks after this, she had scheduled an appointment with her doctor to do a hands on manipulation to help turn the baby. The manipulation was with one hand on the head of the baby, and another hand on the bottom. There is a 50% chance that the baby will turn. The mother told me she had taken Arnica montana to help if she experienced any bruising or soreness from when the baby turned inside of her.

The baby turned after the first manipulation, (I think they were going to do 3, and then wait a week and try again.) and was in the correct downward facing position. I found out later that the baby stayed in this position, and did not turn back. The birth was a vaginal delivery and was quick. Both mother and baby were, and are doing well.

I had said to the mother when we met for the appointment that using Pulsatilla would be helpful for the birth, even if the baby did not turn. The baby did turn though. Even though the baby did not turn when we had used the homeopathic remedy Pulsatilla, I think it helped in turning the baby when the doctor did the manipulation. And it also helped in keeping the baby in the downward position, ready for birth.

Homeopathy

Homeopathy can very much be part of a mother’s and baby’s care during pregnancy, delivery and post-partum. I suggest seeing a homeopathic practitioner, a homeopath, and not to self treat. With this mother, there was a specific way the homeopathic remedy Pulsatilla was used, in terms of how often, and the potency or strength of the homeopathic remedy. As with any care that we receive, it is important to have the practitioner manage the case, and to do follow up appointments with the practitioner. This includes when seeing your homeopath.

More About Arnica Montana – A Personal Story

Arnica Montana is often the first homeopathic remedy that someone uses, introducing them to homeopathy.  Moms use the remedy a lot with their children. I have written about the use of Arnica Montana for first aid situations, such as traumas, falls, surgeries, and injuries in several of my blog posts. Here is one of those posts.

Each homeopathic remedy is not just for one health condition. The thinking that I have this _____________________, then I need this homeopathic remedy, is not how homeopathy works. I know we do so that with Arnica, using it when there is an injury, as I wrote above, but Arnica can be used, like other  homeopathic remedies, for not just one thing.

Homeopathic remedies have what we call a “picture”, which is a description of the remedy. As a homeopath, I am matching the picture of the person to the picture of a homeopathic remedy. This is Like Cures Like, the main principle of homeopathy – the Law of Similars.

A Personal Story

My left arm started to be very painful. I have had something like this before. I call it a “cold” in my arm.  It hurt in several different places on my arm – around the elbow, the upper arm, the shoulder, the shoulder blade and even down to the fingers. It was a sore, bruised feeling. It hurt almost all the time, and more so when I moved the arm, and even when I moved my right arm, my left arm would hurt. (We are connected.)  At night, getting into a comfortable position took time. I babied the arm, and wore clothes that were easy to put on and didn’t need help in snapping or zipping.

I gave myself the homeopathic remedy Bryonia at first. It didn’t seem to help. Then I thought, I am feeling bruised and sore. So bruised. I didn’t injure the arm, nor was there any kind of an accident. But there was this sore and bruised feeling. So I took the homeopathic remedy Arnica. I dissolved three 30C pellets of Arnica in water, and took  arnica lying downseveral doses of it (teaspoonfuls), over a period of time. A day or so later, I took Arnica 200C potency, and really felt a change after that, a bettering – less sore and bruised. The next morning, I noticed I was starting to use my arm more, still being careful with it. And the healing has continued.

When I had talked with a friend about my arm, she asked me if I had thought about getting a massage. I immediately said, “I don’t want to be touched”. At first I thought, that is not true, because I am touching my arm at times, feeling the points where it hurts, and slowly, gently pressing on them and massaging them.

I thought about what I had said, that I don’t want to be touched. It was true. I didn’t want my arm to be touched. I didn’t want anyone to touch it. And I was being so very, very careful with my arm, not letting anything touch it.

The “I don’t want to be touched” is a keynote, a main characteristic, of the homeopathic remedy Arnica Montana, along with the sore and bruised feelings. The person will say, I am fine, but they don’t want to be touched, because they are not fine. And this is what I was saying. It was so interesting to me that I said that.

I didn’t have an injury, but as I am writing this, I remember that I was noticing that I was having very different dreams than I usually have. In these dreams I had the feeling of being threatened and of the possibility of being hurt. I found I was escaping from a lot of situations that could be dangerous. Perhaps in some ways, I had felt injured, maybe not physically, but something may have happened in my life, maybe on an emotional level, and I was feeling injured. This was being expressed through my dreams and through the physical sensations of soreness and bruising I was experiencing.

Homeopathy To Heal

To come to the homeopathic remedy that is needed, it is ALWAYS finding out how the person is feeling, not that they have __________________. How the person is feeling can manifest in many areas. Some of these are: physical symptoms, dreams, fears, emotional states, mental functioning, and spiritual questioning. All of this information is what guides the homeopath in selecting the homeopathic remedy that fits the person, that is similar to the person, and helps in their healing.

A Trauma – Homeopathy Heals

Homeopathy is very helpful for any kind of trauma – a fall, from an accident, a head injury or a concussion, a broken bone, a surgery, a deep cut, dental work, a sprained car-accident-98760_960_720muscle, an emotional upset or loss, an abuse, a wartime experience, an overdose of medications/drugs and more. At these times, homeopathic remedies can be used to help as in first aid care. The homeopathic remedy Arnica montana is very helpful. (Read more about Arnica montana.)

The Affects After A Trauma

Sometimes, the trauma takes a longer time to heal than might have been expected. There may be lingering affects or symptoms, or even an exasperation of a health issue may arise after having experiencing a trauma. These after affects manifest in different ways, such as in:

  • behavioral changes – withdrawal, angry outbursts, tantrums
  • bad dreams, nightmares or night terrors, (day terrors too)
  • difficulty sleeping
  • fears and phobias
  • eating disorders
  • anxiousness, depression, lethargy, fatigue
  • sadness and weeping
  • particular physical symptoms – headaches, vertigo, digestive issues, skin eruptions, respiratory and breathing difficulties, eye strain, memory loss, difficulty focusing
  • not able to do tasks that were done before – physical and mental tasks
  • a feeling of not being oneself – “I am not the way I was before the trauma or accident”
  • difficulties in personal relationships

Someone may say, I have done different healing modalities. These modalities have helped me, but I am not back to where I was before the accident. There is about 20% that is not healed. I am not 100% myself, the way I was before the accident. And I notice this (20%) when I do certain activities. I still feel discomfort. I have this particular pain when I do a certain task. I can’t go out and meet people. I have no energy. I can’t attend and focus on my activities and work. I get so angry.

In My Homeopathic Practice

scene of waterI see people in my homeopathic practice who have experienced a trauma – a physical, an emotional, and a situational one. I see people of all ages for this – young children through older adults. The trauma can be new, and the trauma can be old. Homeopathy has helped and healed these people.

The initial “hurt” of the trauma, how the person responded to the trauma, how it has affected their life, what changes have occurred, how they experience the “hurt” of the trauma are all important. In addition to this, the homeopath learns about the individual person – their history, their sensitivities, their fears, what bothers them, their dreams and more. All of this adds to the whole and the totality of the person.

By addressing the wholeness of the person, and not just only the trauma, a deep healing can occur. It is no longer a first aid situation; it has become more of a chronic state that the person is experiencing. Addressing the whole person may be what is needed for someone who has had a trauma to experience a deep and lasting healing.

People Showing An Interest in Homeopathy, And Wanting To Know More

A lot of people I talk to have used the homeopathic remedy Arnica montana. Actually, I think Arnica montana is what  150 - boiron arnicaintroduces a lot of people to homeopathy.

What I Hear From People Who Have Used Arnica Montana

People tell me that they use Arnica montana for all different kinds of situations. One woman has used it when she had sprained her ankle. Another woman mentioned that her friend used Arnica montana when they had knee surgery. A mom has said they she uses Arnica montana when her child falls down at the playground. And a man has said that his dentist very often suggests that he use Arnica montana after he has had dental work, such as a filling or an extraction. In all of these situations, Arnica montana has helped. (Click here to read a blog about Arnica montana.)

When I am talking with someone who has a sprained or strained their arm. leg, ankle or wrist, and they have used Arnica montana, I may mention the homeopathic remedy Ruta grav. Often, this remedy is new to the person. They have not heard of it before. And I may mention that it is better to use homeopathy orally, in pellet form, than to use it topically as a cream or ointment, such as ArnicaGel. Generally, homeopathy is used orally, which promotes a deep healing.

And then I say, there are over 4000 homeopathic remedies.

Over 4000 Homeopathic Remedies

People don’t know that there are over 4000 homeopathic remedies. And it isn’t important that they do know. They know of Arnica montana, and maybe they know of a few other homeopathic remedies, and have used them for a stomach ache, indigestion, pain, a cold, or a fever. They have seen 50 homeopathic remedies at their local health food store. People purchase them, self treat, going by what is printed on the label.

Why I mention that there are over 4000 homeopathic remedies is that there is so much more to homeopathy than helping with bruising, traumas, falls, surgeries, which Arnica montana is so helpful for. Homeopathy does help in first aid and acute care, like colds, flus, stomach aches, AND, homeopathy is so helpful for chronic conditions, where other forms of healing, including western conventional medicine has not helped.

So when I say there are over 4000 homeopathic remedies, what I am saying is – you, who have used homeopathy and it has helped, and you who have shown an interest in homeopathy, why not see how homeopathy can be helpful for other health concerns that you or your loved ones may experience. Such as:

  • chronic ear infections, sore throats, stomach aches, colds.
  • on going nightmares and/or fears.
  • a child who is having difficulty at school in terms of behavior, focusing, or paying attention.
  • bedwetting.
  • menstrual difficulties.
  • migraines and other types of headaches.
  • depression, anxiety, fearfulness, difficulty getting out of the house.
  • skin eruptions – eczema, psoriasis, warts, moles, rashes.
  • digestive issues.
  • fatigue, no energy, tires easily.
  • respiratory difficulties – asthma.
  • allergies – seasonal, foods.
  • muscular aches and pains.
  • not well since.
  • just not feeling well.

Healing With Homeopathy

Homeopathy treats the individual person. To me this one of the wonderful aspects of homeopathy. Homeopathy is truly a spiral of colorsmedicine of the individual. The homeopathic practitioner (the homeopath), through observation, listening, questioning, is finding out how each person experiences their particular health concern. Two people can come in for homeopathic treatment, each having the similar complaint, let say headaches, but underneath, deep down to the root cause, each of these two people experience their headache uniquely to them, and differently from each other. The homeopath is hearing, listening and observing each person.

A homeopathic remedy is given, that is similar to what the person is experiencing. The homeopathic remedy is for the individual. This remedy, one out of 4000, stimulates the person’s own wonderful healing ability. The person is feeling better, their immune system is stronger, and what brought the person in is getting better, such as the headaches, from the example I gave.
