My Recent Experience With A Doctor – One Of The Difference Between Allopathic And Homeopathic Medicine

Recently, I had an annual exam with a new doctor.  I wanted to get acquainted with a doctor, so if in the future I needed care in allopathic medicine I had a relationship already established. This is also a good idea to do with a homeopath.

A Personal Experience

During the exam, I was describing to the doctor a sensation that I sometimes experience on the left side of my body, in the chest and breast area, and under the rib cage. It is a sensation that I have had over the years. It is is not a constant sensation. It is not painful, but has a heaviness feeling to it, as if I can feel that area.

The main sensation is that the area (rib cage, chest)  feels held in, as if there is not enough room for it to expand. I don’t have any difficulty breathing, nor do I feel the sensation when I breath. The feeling is a heaviness, tightness, held in, and wanting to expand and to be let out.

I said this last part to the doctor.  She answered, “I don’t know what you are saying.” field of flowers I replied, “That kind of description is what I hear from my patients. As a homeopath, it gives me an understanding of what the person is experiencing.”

A Difference Between Allopathic and Homeopathic Medicine

I thought to myself, this is one of the differences between homeopathic and allopathic medicine. It really showed me how different an appointment is with a doctor compared to one with a homeopath.  A doctor gathers their information through the results of tests – blood pressure, pulse, vitals, blood panels, examinations etc. And a homeopath will take all of these test results into consideration, but also wants to know more about what this person is experiencing, such as the sensation I described above.

It was very interesting for me to have the physical exam, and to personally see for myself how different the experience of working with a doctor is, as compared to working with a homeopath.

Homeopathy To Heal

There is definitely a place for allopathic (western medicine) to help people in their health. And there is definitely a place for homeopathic medicine. I have found that many people who come to homeopathy for care do so after using other healing modalities, including allopathic medicine.

If you feel that homeopathy could be helpful for your or a loved one’s health condition, I invite you to contact me. I can be reached on this blog or through my website www.homeopathytoheal.com. I would be happy to talk with you.

Thrush – Homeopathy Can Help

Often, new mothers and babies experience thrush.  I have received calls from mothers regarding this and wanting help for both themselves and their baby using homeopathy.

Thrush

Thrush is an overgrowth of yeast (type of fungus) that naturally is present in peoples’  mouths and digestive tracts. It is called Candida Albicans.  Symptoms arise when there baby breastfeedingis an imbalance of this bacteria. Thrush often can develop after using antibiotics.  Anti-fungal medications are often prescribed.

The baby may experience thrush in their genital area and in their mouths. The mother may experience thrush around her breast nipples, in her mouth, in her vagina, and in her digestive tract. Thrush in the mouth looks like white patches on the tongue or inside the cheeks. It may be sore and itchy.

Mothers may confuse thrush with a diaper rash. A diaper rash will start in one of the the body creases, especially where an urine soaked diaper has been rubbing against, and stay in that local area. Thrush will start around the anus, and can spread upwards towards the naval.

Homeopathy

Sometimes thrush resolves on its own in a couple weeks. If it doesn’t, the mother may want to get professional care, and to look deeper to what could be the root cause. Homeopathy can be very helpful for both mother and baby who are experiencing thrush, and for anyone else who is experiencing an overgrowth of bacteria, such as with candida or yeast infections.

As with any health concern, it is finding out how the individual experiences what is bothering them, and then giving the homeopathic remedy that is similar to this.  If someone says they have thrush, there is not a “go to” remedy that is automatically given.

What A Homeopath Would Want To Know

When a mother and a baby are experiencing thrush, the homeopath would want to know more about each of them separately, and together. There is a very good chance that they are experiencing the same imbalance, the same “state”, and will benefit from the same homeopathic remedy.  As a homeopath, I want to know:

  • how are the mother and the baby experiencing the thrush (each could be experiencing it differently) – the discomfort, the pain, the itch, the discharge.
  • where on the body is it manifesting.
  • what is the color, consistency and odor. has this changed.
  • when did it start. what was going on when it started.
  • what makes it better or worse.
  • is the mother breastfeeding. how is that going.
  • what was the pregnancy like. the birth like.
  • were any medications given to the mother and/or to the baby before, during and after the pregnancy and birth.
  • any other infections.
  • medical history of the mother and the baby.
  • any vaccines given.
  • emotional state of the mother and the baby.
  • any other physical symptoms or conditions being experienced.

Some Care Taking Tips

Keeping the area clean and dry helps to sooth the irritation, the burning, and the itching of the area. Air drying can be helpful, by having the baby go diaper less for a period of time, and for the mother to leave her nipples exposed to the air. It is suggested not to use breast pads at this time. Also, not to use soap, which can be drying and irritating. Instead add 1/2 cup of cider vinegar to the bath water, and use a cloth soaked with cider vinegar to wipe the inside of the baby’s mouth and to clean around the mother’s nipples.

If the mother can continue to breastfeed during this time, even though it is uncomfortable for her, it will benefit both her and her baby in the long run.
