What Is Bothering You?

When I first sit down with a patient at the initial consultation, I ask “what is bothering you?”, “Why are you here?” As the consultation progresses, I may ask at some point, “from all of what you have said, what is bothering you the most?” And the patient tells me more about this. It is often our door in to finding out about the wholeness of this person.

What Is Bothering The Person

What is bothering the person is very individual, very indicative about the person, and often a manifestation of the root cause.  Here are a few of what patients have said to me that is bothering them:

  • My nose is running all the time. I have to wipe it. It is annoying.
  • It feels as if the food is rotting in my stomach.
  • I am so anxious.
  • I have difficulty breathing.
  • My younger sister is the boss of me.
  • My neck hurts all the time.
  • I feel as thought there is dripping in my ear.
  • The skin eruption on my face doesn’t go away.
  • There are bumps on my skin.
  • I am not functioning like I did before the accident.
  • I am feeling so weak after having the flu.
  • I am having these persistent thoughts that scare me.
  • It upsets me so much how other people treat animals and older people.
  • Loud sounds are uncomfortable to me. (A child runs to his mother when hearing loud sounds.)

You can see how varied it is. And there often is no name to it, nor a name of an illness. It is a sensation, a feeling, a fear, a physical symptom, a thought, a response, a reaction.

I find it very interesting that what can bother one person, such as a skin eruption, may not be bothering another person who also has skin eruptions. This shows me over and over again how individual we all are. My job always, is to see, observe, learn about this person in front of me, and how they experience what bothers them, and how they experience their life. I am learning about the world they live in.

The Totality

The totality is like this photograph. What is bothering the person is the drop in the drop of waterwater. The ripples from this drop are: the other symptoms the person may be experiencing; how what bothers the person affects them; how the person perceives things that happen to them; their fears; their dreams; the language they use to express themselves; the gestures they make; their history and more. The ripples and the drop are the totality of the person.

What Is Bothering You?

When does what is bothering someone become too much, and that they then want help?

A lot of us live with or through what is bothering us. We accept it, even though it bothers us and affects our lives. Perhaps it is when the pain is too much – the physical, the emotional or the mental pain. Perhaps, it is when we don’t like what is happening or how we feel. Perhaps, it is when we don’t want to feel this way anymore. Perhaps, it is when we want to be better, really better. And perhaps, it is when we see how important it is to take care of ourselves.

I have found that people come to homeopathy because something has been bothering them for awhile. They may have gone to other health practitioners, including western medicine, and have felt that they are not better. This is often when they come to homeopathy.

Urinary Tract Infections/UTI’S – Homeopathy Can Help

For the last several months, I have heard of several people experiencing Urinary Tract Infections. Unfortunately, UTI’s are very common. UTI is a term that includes urethritis, cystitis and pyleonephritis. They can be very uncomfortable, painful, and affect our daily lives, tremendously.

Treatments For An Urinary Tract Infection

People often go to see their physician, have a culture taken, and are proscribed antibiotics. There are also the recommendations of drinking more water, drinking cranberry juice, and using herbal supplements, such as Nature’s Way, Urinary With Cranberry. These treatments all can be very helpful. For some people though, these treatments are not enough, and the person continues to have the UTI, or that the person experiences recurring UTI’s.

Homeopathy Is Helpful

There are many homeopathic remedies that can be helpful when someone is beach waterexperiencing an UTI. In homeopathy, it is always looking at the individual person and seeing how they are experiencing their heath concern.

There are the common/general symptoms that many people may experience when they have an UTI, such as painful urination, a drawing sensation as one urinates, urging to urinate frequently, chills, fever, and discomfort or pain in the bladder or on the lower back. Some people may not even experience any symptoms at all.

In addition to the common/general symptoms, a homeopath would want to know more about how the UTI is experienced, specifically for this person, such as:

  • what is the discomfort like
  • how is the person’s emotional state
  • is there an odor or color to the urine
  • consistency of the urine – cloudy, clear
  • flow of the urine – by drops or steady
  • what is the pain/discomfort like
  • location of pain
  • what was happening before they developed the UTI
  • are there any other symptoms
  • what makes it better or worse
  • how often do they experience them (acute: one time, or chronic: occurring often)
  • is there any thing else that is bothering them

All of this makes a whole picture of the person. It is the person who is being treated, not the symptoms nor the disease name. A homeopathic remedy is given that is similar to this picture, stimulating the person’s own healing ability.

Some Homeopathic Remedies

Here are brief descriptions of five homeopathic remedies that may be helpful when someone is experiencing an UTI. I don’t suggest that someone treat themselves.

homeopathy pelletsBy reading each description, you can see how different each homeopathic remedy is, perhaps subtly different. This is the same when a person is experiencing an UTI; they experience it uniquely to them. For example, you will read that Apis has no thirst, and Cantharis has unquenchable thirst.

Aconite – sudden retention of urine from a chill or a fright. Painful urging to urinate. Scanty, red, hot urine. Anxiety on beginning to urinate. Attacks are sudden and violent. Restless. Fearful.

Apis – burning and soreness during urination. With chills and fever, swelling, and scanty urination. Urine, -scanty, last drops burn and smart. Thirstless. Intolerant of heat. Worse: right side, touch pressure, heat. Better: uncovering, open air, cold bath.

Berberis – burning pains. Pains feel deep inside kidneys extending to bladder. Sensation as if urine is retained, after urination. Backache. Urethra burns when not urinating. Urine – thick, yellow, sandy or slimy sediment. Symptoms change rapidly. Worse: motion, standing, any sudden jarring movement.

Cantharis – persistent and violent urging. Passes only a few drops at a time. Painful urination. May be accompanied by aching in the small of the back. Pains are burning, cutting or smarting. Intense and rapid onset of symptoms. Cystitis. Unquenchable thirst, but with aversion to all liquids. Worse: by urinating, touch, drinking cold water or coffee. Better: gentle massage.

Mercurius corrosivus – persistent urging with intense burning. Urination drop by drop. Constant urging to urinate, need to go but cannot. Straining. Scanty. Urine may be mixed with a little blood. Cystitis. Perspires after urination. Person looks pinched, shriveled, melancholic. Worse; evening, night. Better: when resting.
