I noticed that some people who had viewed my blog recently were wondering if it is safe to use homeopathy while breastfeeding. I think there were concerns about using homeopathic remedies in the pellet form as well as in the form of topical creams. Yes, it is safe to use homeopathy orally and topically when breastfeeding. In my post “Supporting Women through Caesarian Sections and Recovery”, I did mention it was safe to use homeopathy while breastfeeding.
I know breastfeeding mothers are very concerned about their diet, and don’t want to eat any foods that could affect their baby, especially foods that cause gas and colic in their baby. There are some western medications that are not safe to use when the mother is breastfeeding. This was probably discussed with the mother and her physician before, during and after the pregnancy. Using homeopathic remedies during pregnancy is also safe.
Homeopathy is very helpful for the health concerns that mothers and their children experience. Often, it is when a woman starts her family, that she turns to homeopathy for help with colds, coughs, earaches, stomachaches, colic, teething and other things that come up. I will have more about how homeopathy is helpful in these kinds of situations in further blogs.
The homeopathic remedy Arnica Montana is often people’s first introduction to homeopathy. Many mothers use it for their children. Athletes may use it. And I have heard that cosmetic surgeons and dentists often recommend Arnica Montana after there has been a surgical procedure. (You may want to look at my post on recovery after a Caesarian section.)
Arnica Montana is a wonderful homeopathic remedy for any kind of trauma situation that occurs to the body. Traumas can be falls, surgeries, accidents, and blows. There is a feeling of soreness and bruising. Often the person may say, “I am fine”. There can be swelling and puffiness. The formation of ecchymosis may occur – black and blue areas. Ecchymosis is a bruise, contusion or a dark area on the skin, made by blood which has escaped into the tissues after a blow. This is really the body’s way of healing itself when there has been trauma. Arnica Montana helps in the reduction of these symptoms, and eases the feeling of soreness, pain and bruising.
The homeopathic remedy Arnica Montana is made from the Arnica Montana plant that grows on mountains in high altitude areas. The two small vials shown here are what you may find in the store.
Here are a couple of examples when Arnica Montana was used:
A patient of mine used it after having a procedure to remove a skin growth on her nose. The area was sore, slightly puffy and the checks started to get a yellowish tinge to them. She was using Tylenol to help with the pain. But after starting to use Arnica Montana, she noticed that the soreness was less, the swelling and puffiness was going down, and the yellowish area was fading.
Another patient used Arnica Montana after having teeth fillings replaced. She was feeling a deep soreness in her teeth, gums and jaw as the result of having experienced a lot of drilling. Arnica Montana relieved the pain completely. She used the remedy several times a day for several days and/or when needed.
Often people use this remedy in a self help and first aid situation. It is always good though, to see a practitioner of homeopathy if there are serious or longer lasting symptoms that you are experiencing.
Even though this blog has been around for over a month, I thought I would write a welcoming entry and tell you why I have started this blog.
Most people really don’t know what homeopathy is and how it can heal. They have heard the words – homeopathy and homeopathic – often, but usually these words have been used mistakenly, inappropriately or derogatorily. By having this blog, my intention is to educate and to inform people about homeopathy, and its wonderful healing potentials.
Homeopathy is a a safe, gentle form of healing. It addresses and heals the whole person. Usually, there is a particular concern, symptom or complaint that has brought the person to see a homeopathic practitioner or homeopath. In the healing process, you want to see that concern being healed, as well as the person having a better sense of whole being. I always say you want the whole “shebang”.
I am a homeopath in the San Diego area. I am glad that you have stopped by and hope that you will continue to do so.
